Welcome to DESIGN SEED!
Today’s episode we had the opportunity to head up to this Hillside Mansion featured in the movie “Crazy Rich Asians” by WarnerBros.
The client bought a very steeply sloping lot in the jungle facing a forest reserve on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, and the lot was sloping down from the road, from the entrance level.
Located on a thirty five degree slope, the house, known as the Be-Landa house.
Overall throughout the house, the relationship between the spaces is experienced vertically rather than horizontally, with a total of seven staircases threading the spaces together.
We hope you will enjoy this episode!
Thank you for watching!

Ive always been amazed how houses were built in a slope. It must be a challenge from structural and architectural perspectives. The Architects and team behind this awesome project have the full knowledge of Malaysia's geography given the fact that the house at the centre of a forest and has open areas which are totally exposed to wet weather conditions; there's a greater chance that the area is not prone to typhoons paths; but on bright weather it really looks spectacular as been showcased.

this outdoor living concept is very breathtaking design-wise, but iirc mosquitoes is a huge problem in tropical countries, especially near the forest environments
@annie8230

Yes!! They have the lights on at night in jungle. That’s a bug magnet. And bugs attract birds which poop. How do they upkeep it !!
@13minutestomidnight
@13minutestomidnight 9 дней назад
@@annie8230 Sigh, this is kind of obvious. First, the high heights mean mosquitos won’t fly up, and both repelling vegetation and bought lights can all repel them (or kill them). But the easiest option? The house has huge spaces that are either inside or can be closed off with glass doors. Birds are a different issue, but with the height and all the natural ecosystem that they preferentially live in around, I think it should be not that common unless you do something like feed them.

The rest is either inside or has closing glass doors/walls or wooden louvers. Everything else is basically a problem you have whenever you decide to have areas open to the environment, whether that’s an open window, a balcony or something else. If you don’t like that, then just close yourself up in a little air-conditioned box - just live in a high-rise if that’s the case. Your choice.

Mosquitoes are weak flyers. They couldn't fly from the jungle floor to the upper deck. In the case they got swept up by the wind to the upper deck, the ceiling fans will make it hard for them to control their flying. Their best chances to survive at the upper decks are by hiding from the winds generated by the fan and the jungle.

Oh my goodness i am just watching but i don't know what to say i am speechless. Really beautiful and relaxing. This also why i like homes that built on to the slopy land

Beautiful architecture! Wondered how much does it cost to design and construct these kind of buildings tho

With that kind of detailing and slope building.. I guess its probably around RM1200 per sqft ... 8%-10% fees from total construction cost for design

It takes some foreigners to make the best out of Msia! Love this house😍 Wished i have the courage to build and live in a hse on a slope like this!

is it because Malaysian's have no courage and just keep waiting for foreigners to bring the best out of them? i wonder...

Malaysian people don't really like this kind of open design and on a slope somemore.. nice to see but highly doubt it'll be comfortable to live in.. Malaysian weather is crazy at times, super hot, super rainy, insects everywhere.. when typhoon pray that your house is standing strong. Landslide is very common here, even in these wealthy neighborhoods.

The word 'request' is perfectly adequate. 'They had two main 'requests'. Last I heard it was still in English usage.

Simply in awe and amazement. Stephanie you are a genius at work. Doesn’t over the years the land slope deteriorate perhaps causing foundation issue. A dream home. Well done RU-vid as well. I can’t even begin to guess how much it cost to build.
