Lee was a fantastic musician. Most people can’t play the drums at all, let alone when they’re in extremely ill health. Lee, thank you for the brilliant drumming. You will never be forgotten.
@@MrMystery666 He has incredible feel. Diary of a Madman is my #1 favourite album of all time (and that's saying something) . That lineup with Lee, Bob, and Randy was a superband.
Despite being so sick, he still had some chops. Everything was on point as far as I could tell. He made everything look so easy. I love that he still had the enthusiasm for playing.
I particularly loved his sense of dynamics here. It takes a lot of control to play as quietly as he did and still have it sound proper. You could still hear him sing with no mic. That’s a rare talent for drummers
After the first two bars of Lee playing you can tell that this is the guy that recorded the drums tracks for Crazy Train. I've listened to Crazy Train a million times and that is defintely him.
"the old man"? he's a living legend, and his day was made decades ago. and for those "young people" rock and roll is not a path for them... there's no business in music for "young people" except rap. the only business left that exists in R-n-R, is making vignettes about people who are legends.
A titan of the drums. The parts that he created on those first two Ozzy records were priceless. I wore out the grooves of the Diary album everyday after school of my sophmore year in high school. Lee, thank you for the joyous thunderous drums! I still crank those records today at 55. Rest in peace my drummer brother.
I feel bad that I wasn't aware of Lee Kerslake until after his passing, but one thing I can say is that having learnt a few rudimentary chords, I can imagine being able to play guitar, but I can never imagine being able to play the drums, and it's so heartwarming to see and hear Lee on this video!
my friend came & got me when Diary of a Madman came out & said you gotta chk this record out it's Ozzy Osbourne for some reason that sounded like a soul singer to me we got to his house & he drop the needle on Over The Mountain Cranked Up Lee Kerslake's Drum Intro almost gave me a heart attack lol shame Ozzy & Sharon rob this man of his credit's money & rerecord his & Bob's parts on the 1st two records, thanks for sharing , man this brought tears to my eyes he was such a great guy from the interviews I've heard of em & one of my favorite drummers RIP my man.
Still has it even when very ill a great and amazing drummer you can still hear the power. The cornerstone of Uriah Heep. RIP Lee you beautiful kind man
Sounds like he a was a great guy but I was never a fan of Castillo's playing especially when I saw them live - just obliterated every song with the double bass and too much stuff. Dude - there's only one Tommy Aldridge! He was better during the Ultimate Sin era when he kept it simpler - more like Kerslake's original template for that music.
I dont know about you but Randy Castillo looked and sounded great when I saw him in videos and once live. He seemed like a decent guy and his people were so proud one of theirs made the big time. That was pretty nice to give a guy like that a break thank you oz&sharon.( I hope u know his life got cut short by cancer)
This guy is amazing and a legend. His timing with Bob Daisey and Randy made this track part of history and his feel contributed to the sound, timing and feel that made this track legendary
This is fricken AWESOME! Everyone thinks Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy when they hear crazy train,or often you hear about Randy's face melting guitar, but there's two other guys on that track you never hear about, and their really the best part of the song,if you take the drums and bass away the crazy train will not be going off any rails
Not to mention Bob Daisley wrote all the lyrics on the first two albums. Lee Kerslake is an absolute beast on the drums. The intro to Over the Mountain still gives me chills every time I hear it. Would have loved to see those three stay together in a situation that didn't involve Sharon Arden (Osbourne)
Great drummer 🥁 and a great human being RIP Lee god bless you ❤from heep and rock fan's all over the world. We love you ❤️🥁good night sweet Prince 🤴. Heep are in heaven 🎶🎵🎹🥁🎸magnificent man 🤟😞we miss you. But will never forget you.
The legendary Mr.Kerslake: The joy he shows while playing is infectious and let me say: Go Lee, smash the drums. Show them, what drums is all about!! And of course, he plays fabulously. And sings with such soul here. A class of its own. R.i.P...
david johanson indeed. I love those two albums, I think they saved Ozzy’s career (and maybe his life too). Such great musicians. Fond memories from my teen years. Peace.
Flint?!? Dear God. Hope you walked him to his car or took him to Saginaw so he could feel a little safer. lol That must have been awesome. Especially in '01. Very cool. We're jealous!
Around ‘90 or so, I was new in the radio business and as the overnight guy, they would send me out to emcee the shows that none of the prime time jocks wanted to do. I had the fortune to introduce Uriah Heep at The Newport Music Hall in Cbus, Ohio, and not only were they a bunch of really nice guys, but I specifically remember Lee refusing to let me leave the dressing room after the show until he poured me one more drink...and then another! Good thing I didn’t have to work that night, right? One of those memories that I’ll always have tucked away. RIP
I met Lee when I was 15 years old at a fishing pier. He couldn't get all his gear through the turnstile so I helped him not knowing who he was and so we became fishing buddies for the day. He told me his living and he was in town opening up for Kiss. He gave me passes for the show and during the show since I was front row he threw his autographed drum sticks to me. Lee Kerslake, R.I.P.
Thanks for this upload of one of my favorite drummers in his element. A beautiful video. I got quite emotional watching this gentleman play this song from memory. He never forgot how. This was joyful for me. Kudos to London Bridge Films for putting this one up for Lee's many fans.
Just a basic quad. And I have a lot of love for the man, but he is way out of time here. I wonder how long it had been since he played up to this clip.
And you should know that better than me with that beautiful pearl kit in your pic! Stepping away from the drums was one of the worst mistakes I’ve ever made.
