When I was a learner driver one of the things I was taught was to give HGVs plenty of room. I've been a passenger in one and it is quite eye opening to see cars "disappear" in front of the cab due to the height, hence the need for the mirror. It costs nothing but a minute to just hang back, let the HGV do what it needs to do, and then cary on. Far too many people seem to see driving as a free for all competition.

i see it very often people over or undertaking hgvs on bends ,just silly (on motorways worst sin is hovering next to a hgv or to the front left especially where they cant see you or not expecting you to be )

Back in the 1970's. I used to travel with my late Father in his Artic Lorry (Truck) which was this size, very high up like yours. It brought back good memories. I felt on top on the world sitting up high in the cab and would travel with him in school hols. He was a long distance lorry driver like yourself. It taught me to give lorry drivers plenty of room when they need to turn and to give way, as to size, weight & capacity. Especially with full loads too. When sitting in the cab it gives you a very different view as well. Quite difficult in London as to our roads being smaller too. You guys bring in our food and stocks to stores and people just dont appreciate this...Thank You for all your hard work...

Great video, Doppelganger! The traffic doesn't look as bad as I would expect London traffic to be. Really notice a difference between British and Australian traffic. Here most vehicles are either a dual cab or a decent size SUV. Gone are the days of everybody having a sedan or wagon. Best wishes from Brisbane, Queensland and stay safe out there.

As a blue light driver i'd recommend never pulling into the bus lane, also never go through red lights regardless of how much noise they are making (just a general comment i'm not referring to anything the OP did) I also drive class 2's part time and that road that you were on around the 6 minute mark is a nightmare during rush hour, literally about 1000 cyclists who seemingly have no regard for their own lives. I wish other road users watched videos like this to educate themselves on how to stay safe around HGV's .

London used to be my home turf and back in the 70s driving a truck from Barnet to Colliers Wood we could pull over at Clappen Comment for a toilet break, mug of tea and a saveloy sandwich. All most welcome!!! As you say there are so many signs, that truck important signs can get lost, also delivery trucks unloading can shade/cover an important sign. Coppers didn't want to know about the parked truck and would still give a ticket, dash cams will help a driver in this case now I hope. Well done Kev lets hope all drivers take heed of your info. Cheers.

As someone who goes everywhere on a bike (pedal kind) and who works as a forklift truck driver (tipping and loading trailers) I am always aware of where I am in relation to the wagon and the mirrors so that I can be seen. Heard far to many horror stories of cyclists of doing daft manoeuvres near trucks at traffic lights - it is just too simple to blame the wagon driver for all accidents involving cyclists, some are the fault of the cyclist. The yellow cycle warning stickers on the rear of the trailers are there for a reason, and now that more wagons are fitted with audible warnings is a good thing but there are and always will be people who will still take a chance on that gap and unfortunately not always make it. Really good video Kev, informative as always. Chris

Defensive driving is definitely the key around London, especially at 10:00 when you were at the lights Kev. I just take up as room as i possibly can, just to stop the idiots trying to sneak down the inside. I've lost count how many times i've been beeped at and had one clown in a builders van, actually get out and ask why i'm blocking up both lanes...answer was, because i can mate and i'd rather cause a hold up, than fill out accident forms after i've put a huge dent in the side of your van !

Another great video, Kev - should be thought provoking for all drivers who watch it. As is said elsewhere in the comments, you have a style of explanation that could lend itself to being an instructor. I appreciate that channels such as yours rely very much on their 'metrics' - views, also subscribers and likes/dislikes. I merely question whether such clickbaity titles are really needed on RU-vid. "Enlightening view" would be correct - but is this really "Crazy", let alone "CRAZY"? It looks like a normal drive along south London roads to me, with the usual share of idiot fellow road users. Personally, I would go for "Articulated HGV drive through London with mirror view and driver's explanations" - though I'm rubbish at marketing or anything like it.

Never pull over into a bus lane for emergency vehicles. Let them go in there by choice. If you get a bus lane ticket - it's hard to fight. For reference, I drive a bus and notice that Ambulance drivers are the worst. Damaging a bus behind me, knocking over a sign and made no progress. I would not have objected if they wanted to go in front of me. I was hoping they would do that. In the end, they couldn't get past a red light until it changed. With that Ambulance, you were better off continuing. You were too close to a crossing, plus you were opposite another large vehicle.

Hi Kev, How do I keep records straight driving between digital and analogue tachometer, and when I do manual entry how do I record the analogue work and driving Thanks Brockie
@gary63693
@gary63693 4 года назад
As for your analogue tachograph of recording other work. If you google "Analogue Tachograph" and click "Search" then click on "Images" tab, then look for the graphs that have been filled out. You can see them there. For your driving, i think you just select driving on it. Your digital tachograph card records all the data from the unit, so you basically don't need to do anything. As long as you have records for the past 28 days, then your good to go. Also one thing to remember is to keep 28 days worth of analogue tachographs too. DVSA basically wants to know exactly what you have done work wise for the past 28 days

@gary63693
@gary63693 4 года назад
@@liambrock2601 You don't need to do a manual entry for Wednesday my friend. That tacho chart you used for that day goes with you for 28 days as it shows a police officer or DVSA (formerly VOSA) inspector what you did on that particular day. You basically need evidence of what you done when you work and that digi card and tacho charts does just that
