I am a newbie to 3d printing and in fact don't even own a machine yet and have been looking at many reviews on the K1 Max. I have to say this is the most indepth review I have yet seen. Thankyou.
I have been amazed at how much I love this machine, I have been printing with this thing nonstop with no issues whatsoever. ASA, TPO, everything flawlessly out of the box.
I upgraded to the K1Max after my initial Creality Ender 5 Pro. I had two months trouble free printing then bang. On a largish print something failed and the nozzle started hitting the surface of the print. I contacted Creality support and after some emails bouncing around finaly got to chat with a guy on Messenger. With the information I provided they concluded the main board had failed. I am awaiting delivery of a replacement. After removing the base plate I noticed that the fan attached to the base plate had been hitting the cooling fins on the heat sink for the motor control chips. I will need to sort out a fix for this before fitting the replacement board. Thanks for a great review video.👍
I hope you're up and running again soon! I've taken the bottom off a few times and not checked the clearance between the fan and heat sink - but will next time! I have heard this mentioned on the Facebook groups - so maybe check for a solution there if Creality can't help.
Creality advised leaving a screw out. Which I thought was a bit off. I think cutting a piece off of the fin to give clearance may be am option. There is one heatsink across all chips. Maybe individual heatsinks would be better. I will look into that also.
I purchased the K1 Max today, so hopefully I've made the right decision. This is mainly to say thanks for the code as it help a lot towards the purchase and final decision.
Good to know someone just bought one :). Mine is still unboxed and thinking of sending back after a week..the main reason is a lot of reviews point to the cables at the top and their challenges with the printer, the flimsy door latch and non-laminate glass design and the bed level issues. I do like this review though. Pls share your initial experiemces
Before you do ANYTHING. Check your FRAME!!! I had a terribly twisted frame on my K1 Max and it made all my square prints into a rhombus shape. My lid was not even close to fitting on top. This was due to mishandling in shipping, but they will replace it for you if you provide pics to Creality support. Cant wait for my replacement, my test prints were 4x faster than my other printers despite the frame issue. I also did my 16m benchy in eSun PLA+, came out better than my 1hr benchy on my Ender 3!
@@TheTechnologyMan new printer arrived with a perfectly square frame. Phew... Unfortunately some error happened during bed leveling in the nozzle completely stabbed into the center of the build plate. I'm pretty pissed that my build plate is marred after a couple hours of use. I sell phone cases that require a perfect bottom layer. I sent them an email about this but have not heard anything back. Finding out that I actually have to calibrate this machine to print well, when I thought it would be a plug and play printer. I don't mind doing that but beginners would never know to do so
I've been watching more than a few K1 Max reviews as I'm seriously thinking of getting one. Your video is among the best, well detailed, to the point and useful. Thank You.
@@TheTechnologyMan ... of course now I have to decide to get a K1 now, or wait until the K2's are shipped, then wait a few months for the initial production run is sold and buy a K2 next year when it's bugs have been worked out. ... Hmmm, a test of my tolerance for delayed gratification.
If you have the budget, I highly recommend purchasing a Bambulab P1S or P1P printer, as they are much better options. I own a K1 Max, and I find it quite challenging to manipulate, with issues regarding bed leveling. I do not recommend it.
@@GerardoNQ Was really tempted by the Bambu Lab products. Two concerns, one is they are not quite large enough and two some of the reviews of how their software works concerns me. No fan of cloud based connections - live in northern Canada with satellite internet connections, cloud work is a pain - especially on cloudy days (real clouds interferes with e-cloud connections). I used Tinkercad for example on the cloud and sometimes I'll have to wait and go get a coffee while it assembles the model. If they come out with a max - maybe I'll get over my security concerns, and if I can download the software and work off line that would be an OK work around.
Thank you for the detailed review. I purchased one along with a micro Swiss hot end replacement. Other reviews say this helps with nozel issues and they are easier to swap.

The most thorough review I've found, thank you. I jumped on a K1 during the recent past 'Black Friday' discounts, under $400, I figured the K1 Max and K1 where the same except build area, nope. Seems no one had mentioned the A/C hotbed on the Max, that is not a small difference, that and the 1,000 watt power supply for the Max where the K1 has a 350 watt supply. It's taken me over the 15 day return period from Creality so I'm stuck with the K1, I also found out all the nozzles (.2~.8) are for the Max, there is no nozzle profiles for the K1 or K1C besides 0.4.
Thanks for another great review, Gidon. I just got one of the K1 Max printers for Black Friday! I’m excited to see what it’s capable of! I appreciate the honest review for everything and I am researching ways to correct anything I can to make my experience with it a perfect as possible. Keep making these great videos!
Thank you for taking the time to do this video. You may now pause for breath! 😂. Highly likely I’ll get this printer as I have a project where I need to make some big parts (even with them segmented) so really need the size and speed. Great review, goes through pluses and minuses with lots of info and summary at the end. The way reviews should be done.👍
I've had mine for about a week, and so far, it's been pretty good. I'm used to working with Cura, so I'm taking my time learning Creality Print. I haven't had the issues that you apparently did with the phone app. Mine seems to work fine with both the K1 Max and my CR-10 Smart Pro. I will say that the speed of the K1 is very impressive. I scaled up the benchy to 300%, and it took 4 hours on the K1, where it took nearly 4 times as long on the CR-10.
I had a K1 for a week, and sent it back, it just had so many issues, 1st layer was never spot on, adheasion issues too. Paid the extra for the Bambu Labs P1S (without the AMS) and it is worth every extra penny. I am so happy with it I am investing in more to replace my aging Flashforge fleet.
@@lLoneRoninlits not user error. K1 max is known for more issues. I am amazed with bambulab too but i recommend the build volume. The some centimetres are so much helping something bigger. Hope bambu lab will bring aut a max version.
There was an issue with the last firmware updated few weeks ago in the first layers. Downgrading it to the last available in the web fixed it. No more adhesion problems again.
Bought one. Printed a 100 mm part and it measures 99mm's. The holes wouldn't fit with the mating part. Finally got an email back from Creality. There is no method of calibrating this machine. So if you are printing a vase or a character it's great. If you need to print parts that have to fit together buy a different brand of printer
If you get consistent inaccuracies you could apply a small scale factor to your prints. Also where you print on the bed can have an impact - so might also be worth checking. I only print functional parts on my K1 Max and find it pretty good.
Good review., thank you. I bought one just over a week ago and have been generally pleased with the results so far. Except when I printed the Benchy test file that is loaded on the m/c I noticed that the embossed text on the underside was barely readable. I have printed the Benchy on other m/c's and the text is usually distinct. I also went on to print a file of my own which has a fairly shallow 'engraving' on the bottom surface and it did not show up at all. I'm wondering whether this is something I'm doing wrong or whether others have had similar issues. Keep up the good work.
Yes by default the first layer is a little too squished on mine too - even with the very latest firmware. You can adjust the z-offset as I demonstrate in the video.
I wish it was. I have bought 5 of this model, over 10 of them in general. 1 has been decent from the start as far as K1 Max units. Not a fanboy of anything but what works as I expect it to. My bambu units I have work just about flawlessly from the get-go. I have no problem showing pictures and videos to justify my statement. I think it's a gorgeous printer. But the amount of shipping damage coupled with warped beds and consistent failures has me a little chapped.
I bought this as my first 3D printer 10 hours ago, so far so good, worked perfectly out of the box, My 13 year old son found a free website to print things from, so it's now doing an overnight print 8 hours
Thanks for the review. I plan to buy my 1st printer next month and it's down to either the K1 Max or P1S Combo. Both are similar priced but the K1 can be cheaper with discounts. Bambu doesn't usually offer discounts. I have reasons to get both but I'm leaning towards the P1S because of ease of use, quality prints, and lots of possibilities with the AMS.
It's a tough one. I'm hoping to test a Bambu Labs printer soon. The extra size of the K1 Max is the big draw - if you don't need that then I'd definitely be choosing between the K1 and one of P1S or P1P depending on budget.
If they didn't use proprietary nozzles and force their cloud it would be a no-brainer for me to choose bambu. Since they don't I went with K1. Got a 15 pack of steel nozzles for the price of one bamboo nozzle. Printing on my local network and none of my intellectual property is being sent to China lol
@@TGMisKillingTheMiddleClass How do you like it? I got P1S 2.5 months ago. It had a shorted mainboard at delivery. I been dealing with poor bambu sport since Thanksgiving. I am on the verge of returning this and get something else. I replaced the board. But now it wouldnt connect to the wifi. Giving me all type of errors. Camera not working and I accidentally clipped the ribon cable while trying to fix the clog and it cost $20 to fix it LOL. I will return in and get either A1 AMS or thinking on K1.
Edit: your review was perfect and answered my question. I was too impatient and started commenting while still watching. I had mine delivered 2 weeks ago. I messed up greatly with settings and slicers, but mostly with z offset. I eventually did a factory reset and created new profiles in my slicer and have perfect first layers that are completely fused and no blobs. Absolutely stunning. 1 thing I do not get is that whole ai lidar part. It never did the flow check or anything else with that lidar. I expected it to run when calibrating the printer but no. I tweaked it all manually now, but it would have been nice if it did the extrusion check itself. I can see your printer does use it, can you tell me how?
The only critique I have with an otherwise amazingly detailed video with so much information is that never mentioning the price. At 30 seconds it says "to see if this is the right 3D printer for you". Then 26 minutes pass until the price is mentioned in the form of links in the description. Yes, prices change with time or depending on region and all that. Would still be nice to know what it cost at that time to get some idea. Since the price is a key determinant for many people.
Ordered one of these, can't wait to get it. All of my other printers are smaller and unenclosed so this will be great for ABS, ASA and Nylon. The noise doesn't bother me because I've worked in industrial manufacturing facilities so I'm used to it. know someone with three of these in a print farm and he likes them so much that he just bought four more.
be sure to check that your frame is square. Lid fitting is easiest way to check." Mine was horribly twisted from being dropped in shipping. Even the screws holding the bed down were bent badly (one was completely removed and loose in the printer)
excellent content I'm considering the K1max as my next printer. My previous experience with Creality wasn't good (ender5S1 with sonic pad) I'm currently using an Elegoo 4 pro with good results.
Thanks! I think Creality have done a good job with the K1 Max - I'm looking forward to the next firmware update that should fix a few issues still remaining.
Thanks for the honest review, i own a k1 Max, prints very good no issues so far. Dislike however the claims that the printer uses IA, and Creality OS which is actually Klipper which to be honest is perfekt. however for super tricky and refined prints I use my MK3S, it is super slow, but the prints are a tick better than on the K1, maybe this might be improved with better slicer settings? All in all I am quite happy
Very satisfied with print speed and quality with K1, but it seems to leave dents into patterned hotplate, especially in tip cleaning area, noticed this after about 5 prints only. It is fine with original hotplate.
@@TheTechnologyMan I have Neptune 4 Max, the bed leveling and other calibrations take forever. I'm planning to buy K1 Max but I'm still not sure about it. I'm between X1C and K1Max.
Creality copies Bambu (good) but the head crashes into the bed?! That's EXACTLY what happened with the Ender 3 I bought (and returned) right before the P1P became available.
Hi, I have a Creality ender3 s1 pro printer, I don't have any problems with small prints, but when I want to print large prints, it says communication with the MCU is lost at different times and the printing process stops, when I want to continue from where it left off, it starts from the wrong position. Why does this machine give an error with large prints, I searched the internet and couldn't find much information that would be useful for me. I talked to a service and they told me that this could be due to overheating of the sonic pad, stepper or motherboard. I don't know what to do. Do you think cooling the steppers could be a solution, if you have published a video about this, I couldn't find it unfortunately. I would be very happy if you could give me advice. Unfortunately, I don't have enough technical knowledge on these issues.
YES, THE PRINTER LOOKS GOOD AND IT IS FAST, THE PROBLEM IS, THE LEVELING SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY . COMPAIRED TO MANY OTHER PRINTERS THE WORK PERFECT WHEN IT COMES TO LEVELING AND THE FIRST LAYER IT COMES SHORT AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED, WHY WOULD WE , THE CONSUMERS EXPECT LESS FROM CREALITY , WHEN INVESTING OVER 900.00 USD THE FIRST LAYER IS THE MOST IMPORTANT LAYER , WE SHOULD NOT EXCEPT A PRINTER UNLESS THE FIRST LAYER IS PERFECT OR CLOSE TO PERFECT
Is your first layer not sticking, or do you mean it's not just "perfect"? I get decent if results off this printer but agree the first layer could be better.
Sorry not tested the MK4, but I will say I have the MK3S+ and Prusa Mini and choose the K1 Max over them all the time because of the speed and convenience. Plus having an enclosed printer lets you print way more materials much more easily. Personally if I was picking a printer right now between something like this or the K1 and a Bambu Labs printer.
I've added links to the filament I've used in the video description. I tend to use eSun bought from Amazon. But also used Creality's Hyper PLA in this video - also available from Amazon.
Is the printer on a stable table? Make sure you run the Self Check | Input Shaping again if it's been moved. Then run the various calibration tests in Creality Print. You won't eliminate ringing and some VFA at high speeds but especially for functional prints, the quality is pretty good.
Great video! I could not help but ask, have you had any experience with Creality's Hyper PLA (Black)? I recently purchased my K1 max and have had great results with the Hyper PLA (White). I carried out many test of a model I'm printing for a work piece and I was asked to print it in black. I do not know why but I have had nothing but issues with black Hyper PLA. The model constantly releases from the bed and appears to shrink or curl. I have tried glue on the bed, I've tried higher temps on both the nozzle and the bed I've also turned off cooling and still can not get the thing to print. Any ideas or have you experienced anything like this before?
Thanks! Sorry I've only got Hyper PLA in white and grey. Have you gone back to try printing white Hyper PLA - perhaps the test model speed Benchy? Otherwise perhaps try thoroughly cleaning the sheet with a bit of washing up liquid and a non-scratch scouring pad and then dry it thoroughly. Also run the bed levelling routine again. Has the PLA got wet at - perhaps try drying it out? It's unlikely to me it's anything specifically to do with it being black PLA.
I found a setting in settings, experimental and put a tick in the box for enable Gcode offset and play with it in small increments mine is 0.03 weird right hahaha lol
$680 with the current sale and discount code. that is very cheap for a 600mm/s CoreXY machine, with 300mm³ build volume If you want a cheap machine you can get a Ender3 for $130
- Local Printing (no sending my intellectual property to the CCP) - 1.6X the build volume - Faster - Non-Proprietary parts (can get any volcano nozzle) - Open Source - Upgradeable If Bambu used non-proprietary parts and had an option to print locally I would have gotten the P1S. They are trying to be Apple and lock their customers into only buying parts from them. I refuse to play along with that kind of behaviour.
@@nickg1688 No my fault - I went to double check after I replied to you and they'd gone! I must have cut and pasted them to my written article rather than copy and pasting 🤦♂! Thanks for letting me know.
Try reducing the playback speed to 0.75x - RU-vid does a good job on this. And you can enable captions - I have full transcripts for every video. Hope that helps.
Definitely! To be fair the Ender-3 was a MK3 clone - but it did get a lot of people into 3D printing which can only be a good thing! I'm personally very grateful that Bambu Labs came up with the X1 Carbon and their new mini is even more disruptive.
Standard Creality, missing the mark of the people they were trying to copy. Oh well. But don't get suckered into the low price if youre a newbie, you'll be tinkering and "modding it to work better" more than printing with it. 😂
so you'd rather send your intelectual property to the Chinese Communist Party? At least creality lets you use their printer on your local network only if you want. Bambu FORCES you to link to their 'cloud' If you are just printing other people's models, then whatever. I am NOT sending my prototypes to China to be copied and mass produced. I have a business to run. This is not a toy for me
