@@TheTechnologyManI ordered one of these with the impression that I could view the camera and start/stop prints while away from home. You stated that it is not capable of working off the network without doing some extra work. How would I go about doing that?

Thank you for this introductory video. To date, it's the most comprehensive and informative I've seen. Sonic Pad has potential but you have to get your hands into the code. I don't have much faith in Creality's responsiveness to release new printer.cfg files quickly. Even if the official configuration of our machine is released, we'll still have to go write in the Klipper code. It's up to me to write a commented printer.cfg file with all possible updates included. Good luck for the rest of your videos on the Sonic Pad (change of printer, modification of the slicer with Cura or Prusaslicer,...).

Thanks! I do hope they do include profiles for all their printers. There does seem to be a lot of interest in the pad so it's in their interests.

@@TheTechnologyMan To clarify, this tablet is not suitable for all printers. This solution will not work for the anycubic kobra printer, since the resistors need to be soldered in the anycubic kobra printer itself, only after that the clipper will work correctly. The thing is that anycubic kobra decided to normally put different drivers for the axes - TMC2209 clones and TMC2208 extruder on one UART, but did not take into account that the TMC2208 will have the address 0, as well as on the X axis. Therefore, it is necessary to solder the address of the driver X from 0 to 3. Solder the resistors R65 to R66. So, this device is most likely for all printers of the creality brand. But, many solutions from the creality brand are easily integrated into anycubic kobra. For example, I have successfully installed anycubic kobra creality 3d digital spoon rack-s. Everything fell into place without alteration. Set the adjustment of the platform as in creality (twister + springs) + automatic alignment from anycubic kobra themselves. This is my subjective opinion. The Creality Sonic Pad tablet is not really needed when for the same price of $ 90-100 you can buy a mini pc SZBOX T5 Pro (intel 3305 processor, 6GB of memory, 64GB of space is a lot, I only have 6.8 gigs of space occupied) install debian 11, lift the docker and the port, deploy an octoprint in the docker or a clipper, connect the camera and, if desired, you can install Home Assistant. Thus, the printer can be integrated into the HomeAssistant and we get the opportunity to control the printer via a voice assistant or using smart home automation and output the camera to any smart TV at the request of the voice assistant.

I've been looking to upgrade my setup rather than deal with the inherent design flaws in the Anycubic Kobra. Your videos have been key. They're extremely well put together and not only helped me decide but will be helpful during setup. Thanks

The resonance test is to measure the frequency as the print head see them. By putting the sensor on the bed for the Y-axis reading, you are bypassing the resonance as it travels through the z-axis screws and the rollers that the head rides on.

The S1 Pro is a bed slinger.
@TinkeringJohn
@TinkeringJohn Год назад
@@TheTechnologyMan Another analogy of this is the large mass dampers near the top of tall skyscrapers. They dampen the sway of the building they feel at the top during earthquakes, not what is happening at the base. If the bed of the printer is reading higher vibration levels than what the print head sees, it will overcompensate for it in the software. I have an S1 Plus, so the bed has more mass, but the whole printer does too. I may or may not see a more noticeable difference than a standard size printer when I set my Sonic Pad up on it.

(arches even the chimney was flawless) Just wish it had some kind of remote access (not only home wifi) so i could check on it while in work throught my phone. guess my sollution will be a laptop next to printer connected to sonic pad throught wifi, while ill connect to laptop via microsoft remote access app on phone to control it :D

Why is it so difficult and so many devices? It is easier to take one mini pc SZBOX T5 Pro on aliexpress at a price of $ 90-100, which will replace two Creality Sonic Pad devices and the laptop that you are going to install. This SZBOX T5 Pro is small, has no fans and its resources are abundant enough to control the printer and camera operation. In total, 6.8 GB of 64 GB of space is occupied and 700-900 MB of 6 GB of memory is consumed. We install debian11, docker + portainer, put an octoprint with a clipper plugin in the docker and control the printer with a clipper. We install and configure OpenVPN for remote access and manage the printer from anywhere, no matter where you will be. Also, if desired, you can install Home Assistant and it will automatically control the printer, and you can also implement voice control of the printer, at the request of the voice assistant to display the camera on TV, and you can also automatically send videos or photos to telegram and even automatically turn off the printer when it finishes printing the part. I have already done all this and worked successfully and even tested the printer illumination. If it's dark outside and the printer is on, then the light will turn on itself with not much brightness by 20%, and if I approach the printer, the brightness of the light will increase to 100%, as I move away from the printer, the brightness decreases to 20%. If the day is sunny, then the printer's backlight does not turn on, but I can turn it on through the voice assistant

Thank you. The best video I have come across. I just purchased this to go with my CR10 Smart Pro, mainly because I use my printer sideways as I can't see the nozzle from the front. I have been fairly disappointed with it so far, the setup instructions are not clear enough. I seem to have lost the ability to power off my printer from the Sonic Pad as I could with the default display. The Creality HD camera that came with the printer doesn't work with the Sonic Pad, that's just ridiculous. The Sonic Pad lost all the settings after I had completed the first installation and I had to start again after turning it off. I made a mistake and entered the wrong bed temperature, as the bed was already at 60 degs I had to wait 20 minutes and was locked out until the bed had cooled to 40 degs. Now I find out that the printer and pad can't connect to each other solely via network cables and the USB connection is so flakey they have had to produce a serial lead and adapter which isn't available yet. So yes, pretty annoyed at the moment with my £160 purchase.

Just as a heads up to everyone, it also now supports the CR-6 SE and MAX. BUT, when you buy it you will have to upgrade the firmware on the pad itself to access these features which is pretty straight forward, download the firmware, load it onto a memory stick, insert the memory stick, and it will prompt to upgrade the firmware for the sonic pad.

I drilled 2 small holes in the bed handle of my S1 Pro that align with the existing holes in the X/Y sensor. I use the printable sensor mount on the memory stick and mount that to the Sprite extruder to take the X axis measurement. I unscrew the sensor from the extruder mount and then screw it into the holes that I made in the bed handle to take the Y measurement.

Very interesting thank you for the time and effort. Having installed Klipper manually on a test printer I can attest to the fact that it is a total ball ache to do it that way and this device makes it lot easier, the fact that it controls 4 printers at once makes it a no brainer really, While I love Octopi this really does make it a lot easier to switch, no 4xPi's or alternatives. I have it on two CR10 V3's and I am looking to explore the possibility of using it on my Sovol Idex printer ,By the way it only works on one webcam if anyone is wondering.... Creality needs to look in version 2 for more expansion options or perhaps better a powered module that the accepts all the cables and a single conductor to the Sonic Pad

@@TheTechnologyMan the updated firmware is an improvement but it still isn't perfect. They illustrate the sensor going in the centre of the bed however the x axis gantry is too low to enable you to fix it as depicted. I used some masking tape on the bed and some double sided sticky tape on the sensor. Worked fine on the 1st attempt.

Good review; its a bit buggy though imho. I may go back to octoprint+PI, which is far more stable. Considering how new the product is; not shocked. Things I noticed out of box: 1. bed leveling was terrible; just ended up doing the old fashion way (print a bunch of boxes whilst fiddling with the bed screws, manually set z in printer.cfg). 2.if you try to change settings during a print all sorts of weird things can happen (temp going to zero, reboots, etc) 3. Camera behavior seems odd; sometimes works; sometimes doesn't. Nice side; klipper can be deployed in 15-20mins with very little knowledge; huge upgrade for any ender. (and a Working screen!, been years since I've had one)

@@TheTechnologyMan yep; agreed. Worth the price IMHO; getting alot of for the cost of a rapberry pi. what i eventually found to fix bed leveling; squish the bed springs or print solid mounts for bed. Then heat bed and run bed_mesh on each print_start. This assumes your z probe calibration is a good number. I calibrate z right over a solid mount and use that as the "z-axis" source of truth. I still kind of wonder if you could script out load draw on the z-axis and auto stop motor when amperage spikes due to hitting bed; getting a true number each print start for 0 z_location. Nozzle tap without switch and get the true absolute value for z=0.

This Sonic Pad looks to have so much potential, but the difficulty of setting it up most probably scares away more than 90% of those who are interested in it. You would think Creality would go out of their way to import as many printer profiles as possible, in order to make this a "GO TO" device. To see them dragging their feet to do so, is head scratching, as they are leaving tons of money and popularity on the table. Also, you show in the description that the October 31st update added the "CR10 Smart" to the list of default printers, so that brings the question for me of does that mean that the successor "CR10 Smart PRO" will be able to use that setting as well, or are the different boards of the two printers too different??? If MY "CR10 Smart PRO" would work with this Sonic Pad, as I'm assuming it would, I will have to buy this and do the work to get it going. Also, in the latest update, have they done anything to make it easier to view a webcam over a browser from outside your home/local network?? That's an important factor as well. Thanks for a great detailed vid. I've subbed, and look forward to seeing more from your channel, as this is the first vid I've seen of yours. You speak like your on ten cups of strong coffee, but that's what the pause button is for... Cheers!

@@TheTechnologyMan- I decided to buy a separate security pan/tilt wifi camera, that can be accessed any time from anywhere in the world over the net. Now I don't have to depend on Creality to see my printer in action from outside my home network. It's an easy, simple and efficient solution. Of course my CR10 Smart Pro already comes with an ethernet port and HD camera, but I wanted something that can pan and tilt to my liking, so this new camera was a no brainer. And it's a much higher definition at 2K.

I really hope you might make a follow up video to maybe show what you've learned since this one was made and possibly save some of us Klipper beginner's a lot of headaches. Also, I was wondering about the webcams you used. Did the Logitech webcams have as good of a picture quality as the Anker? I'm about to order a webcam and noticed the C270 is cheaper. But if you think the C920 is better I'd like to know. And what's the difference in the C920 and C925E? Thank you for any help you can give.

Thank you appreciate it - and glad it helped! Yes I do hope to make a follow up video when I get time. The C920 is an older model - but well supported with the Sonic Pad and Octopring etc. It's far better quality than the C270 if you can afford it. The Logitech and Anker are pretty similar - if I was buying one specifically I'd probably go for the Logitech just for compatibility.

For the anycubic kobra printer, this solution will not start right out of the box and without intervention, since the resistors need to be soldered in the anycubic kobra printer itself, only after that the clipper will work correctly. Soldering resistors is fraught with the fact that if we fail to solder, we can disable the board. Personally, I don't use a clipper, I don't see the need for it. I don't work for a client, I'm a user and I don't print that often and I don't need high print speed and super high print quality. I use an octoprint that perfectly controls the printer completely. I bought a mini pc SZBOX T5 Pro (intel 3305 processor, 6gb of memory, 64gb of space is a lot, I only have 6.8 gigs of space occupied), installed Debian 11, docker, portainer, lifted the octoprint in the docker, threw the camera, integrated the octoprint into the Home Assistant, which allowed me to automate printer management as by means of a smart home, and through a voice assistant. I can stop, start and pause the print with my voice, replace the filament, park the extruder, and photos and videos are sent to me by telegram if I'm not at home. If I'm at home, then I'll forgive my voice assistant to display the image on any TV and I can see how printing is going. If I'm not at home or I went to bed and the printer finished printing, then the printer turns itself off.I also set up automatic printer warm-up via the voice assistant, although I prescribed warm-up in gcode, but this is not enough, since for good printing you need to warm up the platform for 5-10 minutes, then the filament will stick perfectly to the platform

Just received my sonic pad yesterday. I have a cr10 v3 and the support surrounding installing klipper on this model specifically is absolutely horrible 😬 I have watched their "user defined printer firmware compilation guide" for printers that aren't an ender 3. Understandably they can't provide step by step instructions for all 3d printer models but I honestly would have expected more support for at least their line of printers. Advertising this as a "plug and play" for Creality printers feels like a lie for people like myself who have never used klipper before.

Thank you for this amazing review. It really helped me with the decision to buy the sonic pad. So far i love it. Even without any changes to cura profiles my prints are coming in faster. I do have a question though. At higher speeds i'm experiencing a lot of extruder skipping and in a larger print a blockage. Should i buy a larger nozzle to fix this or is there another way? My current nozzle is the standard 0.4mm. I've tried printing at different temperatures, between 200 and 220°C so i don't think the hotend is too cold.
