Cream was like having three Michael Jordans on the same team😂

The original goes back to Robert Johnson in the 30s. It tells the story of how he sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads for the ability to play guitar. It was originally called The Crossroads Blues.

Cream is actually playing a version that is a combination of "Crossroads" and "Travelin' Riverside Blues".

Lynyrd Skynyrd also did a cover of Crossroads in 1976! Similar to Cream's version,..but heavier. It's on the 'One More from the Road' album.

Johnson created the basic riffs that are the foundation of modern rock and roll. He was the original rolling stone who was a notorious skirt chaser. Legend has it that a woman's husband poisoned him at some Mississippi juke joint which led to his untimely demise. All the great blues guitarists were inspired by Johnson's style pf play.

One of my all time favourite live cuts… this is Clapton at his best imo, pre-Stratocaster. He never stopped being great but this is the Clapton sound I fell in love with - something was lost when he put the Gibson down. Thankfully we can still enjoy this whenever we like and I do, often. Thanks for the reaction!

Same here... i knew Clapton before i heard The Cream, but when i heard Crossoroads for the first time... man, i was truck to the wall. I couldn't believe that was Clapton! Claption in the Cream-period also influenced the young Joe Bonamassa and inspired him to pick up the Gibson

Clapton invited John Mayer to play with his group in the 2000's. John Meyer perfected his version of Crossroads while playing with Clapton at festival concerts including the Crossroads Guitar Festivals sponsored by Clapton. The song was written by Robert Johnson in the 1930's Eric was in the Yardbirds, John Mayell & the Bluesbreakers, Cream and Derek and the Dominos before going solo in creating his own bands. Eric has played on sessions for dozens of artists for their solo projects. His first guest session was in May 1964 for Otis Spann. Eric’s sessioning has gone through periods of lesser activity, but it has never stopped. He has worked with a wide variety of musicians on different genres. He always worked with others to help improve their recording and usually worked for union scale as a studio musician.

When Cream would hit their groove, they would just go... and go... and go some more. Arguably, they could go on for what some might consider too long, but that was just them following their muse. A good example of this is their live version of "I'm So Glad", which has some really thrilling moments and wild improvisation, but goes on for over 10 minutes, which not all listeners can handle. Jack Bruce on bass and Ginger Baker on drums came from a jazz background, so they brought the jazz idea of improvisation into a rock format. Cream only lasted from 1966 to 1968, but when they were "on" they were like nothing before or since. Sure, there have been other "power trios", but most of them used Cream as a blueprint.

Bit of a groupie! Good one, Biz! This one is from Wheels of Fire from '68. Just amazing what Clapton can do with a guitar. What a solo! Give a listen to "Those Were the Days" from Wheels of Fire which also contains an amazing solo. When George Harrison quit the Beatles while they were recording the Get Back sessions, Lennon said "If George doesn't come back Monday or Tuesday, we ask Eric Clapton to play."

Eric Clapton does one of the men who inspired him most, Robert Johnson, the original member of the "27 Club". When Clapton sings "Going down to Roedale, got my rider by my side, Going down to Rosedale, got my rider by my side", that was the same way Mr. Johnson sang it back in the late 30's. A "Rider" is blues speak for a girlfriend. Robert also wrote "Love In Vain", covered by The Rolling Stones, "Milk Cow Blues", covered by Aerosmith and "Walkin' Blues", covered by Grateful Dead.
