The day I knew I hate Clapton was hearing him say how he needed to save the blues and pass it down to the future... what a pompous jerk. I grew up in Chicago... nuff said? The blues gives zero phukks bout clapton
“Sunshine of Your Love” and “Layla” are undeniable classics. (But unfortunately, the watered down MTV unplugged remake of “Layla” was an embarrassment.)
@@thirdlegstalliano Oh I’m aware of the fact. But these are the two songs with Clapton that stand out for me. (I actually owned Layla and Other Assorted Love songs at one point but it was stolen along with all my other cds).
Watch the Royal Albert Hall concert from May 2005. My appreciation for the group went from a 3 to a 10. Until I watched this concert, I never understood why people thought Clapton was God. Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce really brought a stellar performance out of a then very ill Eric Clapton. To each his own, but in my opinion the three of them together really seemed to draw out the best from each of them.
For those who are unfamiliar with that old joke: What's the difference between a baby and a bag of cocaine? -Eric Clapton would never let a bag of cocaine fall out of a window.
The Band’s “Music From Big Pink” made Eric Clapton decide to quit Cream. The only problem there is that Eric then decided he was going to make music influenced by The Band (which he couldn’t do ) and it resulted in a decades worth of lazy laid back snooze/blues.
@drummer78. It was the Rolling Stone review that split up Cream. Plus Jack and Ginger did not always get along. Clapton was influenced by Harrison. Not just The Band(who I loved)
@@stella3265 The Rolling Stone review by Jon Landau made Clapton upset but it was Music From Big Pink that most certainly made him want to go in a different musical direction…plus Jack & Ginger were fighting as far back as the GBO in 1965 and they were fighting on the very earliest days of Cream. Clapton was well aware of this well before Cream’s demise in 1968. Regarding Harrison, Clapton certainly was a friend and collaborator but by the time Cream was breaking apart (as early as July of 1968), Harrison wasn’t quite yet into the Band influenced pastoral/roots thing . He would be and visited Dylan & The Band in November of 68. I think ultimately the end of Cream was due to many factors…burnout from an American tour, Clapton’s growing boredom with jamming and long solos, Baker’s aversion to the ever increasing loud amplification necessary for bigger halls, the Landau critique of Clayton being “the master of blues cliches”, etc.
I always wondered what Johnny Winter thought of Clapton, the supposed Blues Master. Johnny could flat-out play circles around him. Even as a very young kid in Texas, he would hang in Blues clubs and eventually won the sincere respect of REAL Bluesmen. Yet he doesn't get 1 thousandth of the acclaim of Clapton.
The thing about those blues guys, Muddy,Otis, Howling Wolf was by the 50s they couldn't get arrested. Work had dried up for them until English people started picking up their records for cheap and brought them back to England where all these guys like the Stones, Yardbirds heard them and made careers from it.
blues records were available all over... that's how the brits got into it. blues would do just fine on it's own. only a small handful of artists benefitted. blues clubs are same as they ever were
Hindsight is not fair to revolutionary bands like Cream. They were extraordinarily innovative because they were the first British Rock band to accentuate their virtuosity. They paved the way for even greater bands to follow.
I remember trying to get into Cream as you'd hear them described as a supergroup. Apart from a couple of minor catchy riffs they didn't impress me at all. Clapton, yeah he can play but he's just too boring.
@Newcastle423 no doubt he was a competent enough guitarist. But he was the third best guitarist out of the 3 big names from the Yardbirds. Nobody in their right minds thinks he was as good as Page or Beck. Nobody is saying Clapton was a terrible guitarist, just pretty average.
Very excited for Eric Clapton. Especially with his racism period with RaR as a reaction to it "I'm not on drugs anymore, I'm on something heavier, Racism" sounds like fucking parody and isn't. Also I remember you mentioning "Suicide" on the Clash episode, does "Suicide" suck, and how could they if they made Frankie Teardrop.
Were he not on drugs, I would give Clapton credit for epic trolling back then. But with the insane amount of drugs he was doing, I think he was being serious.
I think its time for Janes Addiction . I know how much you hate Dave, so this should be fun for you. Growing up on the 90s, they were heaven sent compared to hair metal. I loved them, but im excited to hear how much of a piece of shit they were.
I'm listening to "Sleepy Time Time" for out-of-tune bends. Haven't heard any so far. Maybe you can give me the numbers so I can find it. Or better yet let me hear your version.
One of my favorite moments in rock video, is Clapton's strap breaking and Robbie Robertson SHREDDING him to peices when he takes over the solos in The Last Waltz.
@@Newcastle423 Clapton has never written anything remotely close to The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down for an example. What has Clapton written? Cheesy songs like Wonderful Tonight lolllllllll. Clapton said himself that listening to The Band made him quit Cream and he wanted to join them.
Jack Bruce has a great voice and wrote some great songs and I like 2 or 3 of their ballads, But Cream was a mismatched train wreck ! Never liked Clapton's guitar work. He was much more suited for country music which I can't stand. I'm so grateful Felix Pappiliardi went on to Mountain. I've been playing guitar for 60 yrs. and went to Woodstock in 69. Jimi H., Jimmy P. and Jeff Beck are untouched to this day! Thanks for pointing out these true facts about Clapton and Cream. Those fans just don't know any better. I'll bet they like both country AND western!
I could not agree more with what you guys said about Clapton’s lead guitar, or his playing in general. Dry, stiff l, soul less and utterly BORING. And it’s always the same types of guys that love Clapton, and there are guitar centers across the country FULL of these types of guys that only have 30 minutes to go buy the gear that most real musicians can afford before their lunch break at the law firm they work at is over.
The movie tech phenomenon still happens. I saw Avatar 3 times in the theatre, even though it's a totally derivative trash fire, because the 3d was so incredible.
I just went and listened to The Blues Project’s second album first track and either these guys are indeed massive trolls or they are low key toxic hipsters that rather listen to actual shit than let themselves get caught liking something mainstream Eric Clapton might be a major league asshole, racist and whatnot, but a bad, passable, average or “competent” guitar player he is not. I dare you two try to pick a guitar and learn a 15 second lick of his in less than 6 to 7 months, I’ll give you 50 bucks if you pull it off
Cream was a psychedelic group, not blues. Blues was barely there. Maybe all the white English guys shouldn't have touched the blues, but those black guys wouldn't have gotten the recognition they deserved without the white English guys trying to copy them.
That dreaded polo club basically ended Ginger's friendship with Fela Kuti. Ginger started showing his true colors, associating himself with aristocracy - the exact type who would later plot to kill Fela's mother for his political ambitions.
Cream was immensely popular at the time they came out. I remember. You don't remember. John Mayall's Bluebreakers with Eric Clapton before Cream literally changed all music for all time. Since then Clapton has sold 490 million records!
the real funny thing is Cream are still being considered having been a great live band. Try listening to their live stuff next to Jimi Hendrix Experience. It's just embarrassing in comparison. I do like some of their songs though. Mostly ones by Jack Bruce & Pete Brown. And 'Crossroads' does have a killer Clapton solo...off the pitch bends or not.
@arto2533 you're like the only person I've ever heard say they're not a good live band. Not many bands have come close to the live jams they used to have. Hendrix had his moments, but I've heard him play live where he sounds like a straight up beginner, never heard Clapton sound like that. He did pull off some crazy shit though that Clapton didn't really do though.
@@mattneydl4477 again, I'm very happy no other bands have come close to endless jams where everyone's playing out of sync and just for themselves. Hendrix made mistakes because he was trying new things all the time, while Clapton has always played the same half a dozen blues licks he nicked from the black guys, just with more gain and volume. You can't 'fuck up' very noticeably if you're always playing same shit in the blues scale.
"People over 50"....i.e. people with decent taste. As opposed to the Gen Z (zzzzzz) set.... By the way Taylor Swift is talentless, overrated, and overexposed. You can add Horrible Bunny, whoops I mean Bad Bunny, in there with her.
are you dumb??? in the early 1990s at age 13 i was blown away by "Spoonful" live as it sounded as if all 3 players were playing lead or soloing without it sounded like chaos but rather beautiful intensity with the power of a hurricane... fax!!!
Jesus, this was the best episode by far. You can tell Tyler was ACTUALLY pissed off at Cream and not just taking the piss to make a funny episode. Most bands that are notorious for hating each other made amazing music. Somehow, Cream actually managed to sound like a band of people that legit hate being in the same room together.
Sunshine Of Your Love, White Room, Crossroads (live), I'm So Glad (live), Spoonful (live), Badge are 6 of the greatest rock songs, creating the greatest style of rock: Hard Rock (more blues then rock n roll, albums over singles, live performances with top musicians, loud drums n bass with killer riffs & solos)... Jimi Hendrix gave a live on TV shout out to the late great Cream when they ended, and George Harrison cowrote Badge giving the band support from 2 rock superstars... a couple of dumb fellas here, perhaps they like to turn the volume down and bust out some acoustic country-rock about how awesome being white trash is... fax!!!
He's ok. Problem is he wanted so badly to be respected as a jazz drummer but he was nowhere near as good as real jazz drummers, so instead he was a bitter guy that criticised rock drummers
Love it😂😎.....how about a these producers suck episode.....Rick Rubin....Bob Rock....Steve Albini....etc.....or an iron maiden episode.....or some hip hop or rap😬😏....ja rule....snoop lion😂😂😂😂....diddy😂😂😂😂😂😂
In Utero produced by Steve Albini is one of the great productions in rock history, and he was specifically sought out by Kurt Cobain who is one of the 10 most talented people in rock... i used to listen at full volume on killer stereo speakers, the vocals the guitars and the drums are all perfect "live in the studio" hard rock... what are you talking about??? fax!!!
I've been listening to YFBS since 2019, when they released their Beatles episode, and I was impressed. Initially, it felt like they voiced the opinions many had about popular bands that perhaps weren't as great as they were made out to be. However, recently the podcast seems to have declined in quality. Mark often appears to agree without providing unique insights, especially when interacting with Tyler, who can come across as self-important. My critique isn't about a particular episode, it's more about the tone. Listening to Tyler sometimes reminds me of a boastful teenager who wants everyone to know how passionate he is about music. Previously, the podcast had intriguing perspectives, but now the hosts don't seem to mask their biases and can be quite vague in their discussions. I mean literally, these guys made an episode on "AI music" that's the most boomerish and pettiest shallow approach to the subject someone could ever had made. If YFBS is your favourite podcast, your favourite podcast sucks.
also if you're gonna try to lie about having been a listener from the beginning then you should do a better job because The Beatles episode came out in 2017
i tried a few times to get into soundgarden but they just plainly lack some thing, some thing to like make them feel whole or complete. i could not understand what my friends hear in them, especially live in concert. theres a 2023 compilation album of soundgarden covers done by all different bands; and the bands did a damn good job giving those songs some musical clarity; and allowing me to even begin judging whether or not i like the songs. . . im glad they did cause the answer is still no lololol i hate the originals but i at least understand them now, and i like some of those covers. soundgarden covers rock, soundgarden sucks
Personally I love Cream and have for a while, and seeing these guys rant about stupid shit and just hating on a perfectly fine band is just kind of dumb. I mainly like the band because I love to play Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce’s songs on bass and guitar and I bet if these guys were REAL musicians they would have an educated point of view on this band.
Guys, can you please do Prince? I love Prince, and I know it’ll be up there in the most hated episodes with his god like status. I would adore a Prince episode.
I have all of their albums on vinyl and cd, so I can say this. Cream never really lived up to the hype. For how great people think Disraeli Gears is, compared to most albums of it's time, it's pretty weak. Half of Wheels of Fire and Goodbye is boring live recordings, mixed with mediocre studio recordings. The only reason some of their songs seem good is just because the rest of the albums are so-so. But I do have to say this, none of the band members did better for the rest of their careers than Cream. But ultimately they were a disappointment.
Beyond Walk Away and Funk #49, go listen to Woman, a The Bomber, or I Don't Have The Time. Joe Walsh starting out in the James Gang vanquishes Eric Clapton
As far as Cream/Clapton goes… Cream sux… but Cream was better than Clapton’s solo work which was a million times worse … I shot the sheriff makes old town road sound like Beethoven.
the following is a joke i found online awhile back. Q:what do eric clapton & COFFEE got in common? A:they BOTH suck without cream. djentlemen? until next orbit... ☕ heh.
