They like to mock lyrics, but no one ever said lyrics were supposed to be good. Pixies lyrics are just as illiterate and childish, and just as simple and untalented instrumentally, but everyone with 'taste' worships the Pixies. I've never heard a tastemaker criticize the Pixies as the low-talent dorks that they clearly are. Maybe because there's a Latino and a woman in the band? Weezer is '4 white guys' and some of Rivers lyrics are incel-ish and misogynistic. That's the entire difference.

Big Weezer fan (also a big Pavement/Stooges fan). For me, I look at Rivers' lyrics as a campy b-movie. They're the zipper on the monster costume. Hilarious and supremely entertaining. Weezer's solid:shit ratio keeps getting worse with every new album they release. I'm honestly surprised that you think Pinkerton is "poorly recorded" considering the ultra raw recommendations you made. I'll take Pinkerton's trashiness over the puke-inducing sheen of Green and everything after it every day.

They suck in general because of rivers but they do have good songs here and there. It’s kind of like how all bad people have a little good in them, and how things could have always been better. If you like Weezer listen to Cal Tjader. It’s Latin jazz, by a so cal dork in thick glasses. Latin jazz is for good dorks Weezers main issues are thematic and personal. Their fame is largely due to the fact that they sound good, and you guys are deaf!

You act like Green Day hasn't been disposable trash since Nimrod at least. American Idiot was just slower Green Day imitating The Who, all the rest of their albums since are pretty abysmal

@@Strizz484 LOL sure.. but you could say the same about Weezer and everclear and Metallica and most bands honestly. I'm jsut curious what passes these guys' standard. They seem to speak highly of 80's rock/metal a lot. Which I'm okay with.

Weezer sucks because Rivers Cuomo is an egomaniac who couldn't stand the fact Matt Sharp was the creative force behind their sound. There's a reason Blue and Pinkerton are awesome and the rest of their discography sucks.
