I think these long form are way more valuable because we see a whole process, and sometimes we see mistakes or quirks and we see how to get around them. I also love the short form tutorials for quick specifics... so I’m all for both. I can’t believe how much you’re doing for us. I’ll definitely be visiting your store too.

I clearly remember watching this video as soon as it was uploaded. Initially I had some difficulty fully grasping what was happening. However, after investing in some of Blender Bros' courses and revisiting all the free videos over and over, I found the content to be almost self-explanatory. I don't want to sound overly enthusiastic, but I believe that your workflow, along with Ryuurui's, is an excellent way to introduce people to the Blender community in a comprehensive and efficient manner. It just to good not to get advertised.

I love tutorials with little errors or flubs because the least important thing IMO is learning HOW to do something; that's easy. The important thing is those real world exceptions that few tutorials ever cover. Thank you!

Honestly the best beginners tutorial, as a beginner myself i was quite nervous that I'll actually made through the whole video but you made the content so patiently and explaining all those minute details which as a beginner would have been so frustrating. You have this nice look in your viewport, where the edges are very nice highlighted even without beveling. I can't find that setting. You can see the highlights already at the beginning when you created the cylinder at 0:45
@bullpuppy7455
@bullpuppy7455 2 года назад
While in solid mode, click the drop-down arrow next to the button that you would normally click to switch to rendered mode. In that menu, enable 'Cavity' to turn on those edge highlights.
@bullpuppy7455
@bullpuppy7455 2 года назад
Scratch that - You were referring to the green outline. Follow the same steps, but click 'Outline' instead of 'Cavity', then change the color. I'm not sure how he changed the thickness, but that should at least get you started.

With blender being free and videos like this existing so many more people have the chance to dive into something creative. Gonna be following along whatever tutorials I can find for about an hour a day until I'm literate enough with this program to create some of the ideas I've got written down. Coming from the Autocad that I used at a previous drafting job it's like learning a new language. Except this language is actually 5 languages in one. Good luck to everyone out there learning Blender (or any other program). Wish you well.

@36:43 Easier way is to select your base object in object mode and go to object -> apply -> visual geometry to mesh. it'll apply the whole stack in one click and can be shortcutted easily. the correct fix at @38:00 for the shading constraints without affecting edge flow is to select the loop of the cut, bevel it to 2 segments with a profile of 1. It will create a control loop around that surface without disturbing anything else. How did you manage to get a "streak" red matcap in 2.8? the default on is a hexagon, drives me nuts!

Thanks a ton Josh. I have a lot of problems with topology when I started in hard surface modeling. But thanks to you, it's a lot easier. I spend so much time in "good" topology for just a concept. But now, I give a... on that. If it looks good, it's perfect. Later I use this concepts to create, for example, a game ready asset for some kind of "retopology". And this is way easier. And I hope you keep this system, with 10 minutes quick tips and some longer tutorials, on. It is very inspiring and I learn a lot on both ways. Thanks again for your time... 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

great job once again! but i do have a request, there's this game called dishonored 2 (which i highly recommend) that has insanely sophisticated models but the ones that stood out the most for me are the oil dispenser, the typewriter and the alarm so since you're one of the very few that actually listens to the requests of his subscribers can you pretty please upload about one of them? not nesc. an in-depth tutorial for a summary regarding how the basic shape that served as the core of all the details was created et cetera would be more than enough for anyone who's intermediate in modelling (or even advanced)...thanks so much in advance and thanks for all the effort you put into these tutorials :3

quick question about the slice operation at 13:30. Is that sort of boolean 3d printable since does the slice go to the end of the cylinder inside the bigger cylinder? If that produces problems to slicer, then how does one edit the surface in a way that there would not be any single flat 0,1mm slices between layers in slicer?

35:52 I wish Blender had this tool from 3DS Max (I don't remember the name) that moves the edge so it follows the curve perfectly even with subsurface applied. This is such a common issue I can't believe there isn't something to fix this.

I'm gonna watch the normal transfer video after this one, but I would've preffered if you'd just show how to do it in this case instead of spending all that time trying a bunch of things and eventually leaving the shading error in. I don't know how much time it would actually take or if it really would be too complicated for this video to do that, but I would prefer if you did it quickly just to solve that shading error and then directed people who wanted to learn more about normal transfers to your video about it instead of just leaving the shading error in. Still a great and useful video for starting out, but I'm kind of afraid of getting used to modelling like this and spending a lot more time learning how to clean all these errors afterwards, it kinda feels like bad habits to develop, but I might be completely wrong.
@JoshGambrell
@JoshGambrell 3 года назад
I see your point, but I also don’t want to scare away beginners by throwing out too much information at once. Beginners ultimately aren’t going to have perfect shading until their skills develop, so one step at a time.
