i have a fondness for playing cards.Through the years my siblings and i have played a lot with my mother . she always beat us! Mama raised 5 children. she's 94 now and has some dementia but she still likes taking a deck and sorting them in order. Thank God we are able to care for her at home. anyway while watching i thought of taking some of the old photos she has ,stuck in a book that no one sees, and using them as focal points. Thank you for enriching lives with the talent God has given you!

You had me at ‘purge’ - I am SO not good at throwing things away (I am STELLAR at organizing and storing things, however). I am excited to DO THIS, although I need a lot more space. 😬 I will likely use a ‘hardly just started years ago and then abandoned’ art journal, and just have fun filling it up. What a great way of not ‘wasting’ all that ‘collecting and fussy cutting time’ and still having loads of fun. Thank you, thank you. 👏🏻❤️🤗

The magic is turning a bunch of plain ol’ playing cards into mini-works of art. I am currently turning playing cards into ekphrastic prompts for the expressive writing group I run. Lots of fun.

She's a retired artist type and just adorable, showed her a completed altered book video and she just gasped the whole time! Was so fun to watch her reaction! She thought you are just divine!

Hey Toots, it happened!!! I just finished my little deck of cards book....and managed the coptic stitch border!! Now that's big for me, as I struggled with that on the Halloween book pages, but was determined to get it this time! You were right, "practice, practice". OMGosh, I am so proud of my little book, the binding, and thrilled over your instructions. Thank you, thank you. Your the best instructor. Love ya dearly!

Great idea for playing cards! My brother recently passed and he had quite the collection of decks of cards....now I know what to do with them! As always your instruction is easy to follow and fun to watch! ❤️

I never would have thought to use the plastic in an embossing folder. Very cool. I for got to mention this, but thank you for the idea. I got a big shot for Christmas so I am going to try this.

I make mini journals this way all the time...its such a fun thing to do and I already have my stuff organised for my next journal ,I just need some time to create

I love these little book. Thanks for sharing this. I too, like many have mentioned, am so happy I found you. I love mixed media and really enjoy these projects. As for your hair, lol, I've been wanting to say, you wear no hair well. Twelve years ago I was completely bald because of chemotherapy. Luckily for me it grew back. I say a bad hair day is better than a no hair day. I disliked wigs so during that period I wore hats except when I was at home.

Lovely. I bought a couple of oversize card decks from the internet to paste pictures on as prompts for my ‘Words for Wellbeing’ group workshops, and to make a little book with some of them just for fun. I’ve watch several You Tube tutorials, for your unique take on it. I need to do something with my tear outs (and cardboard but that another story) before I am lost in an avalanche... I’ll post you an envelope full. Oh the creative mind! Don’t we see the ‘possibility’ in all manner of things.

I have made a little book like this one following your instructions. My little collage wasn’t laying down after I had glued it. I thought I would get a rice bag to apply pressure to it. Wonder where I got that idea? Ha ha ha!

My cat loves to eat random puzzle pieces. Leave it alone for a second and well,that puzzle that has been worked on for weeks is destroyed. I’m not sure if you’ve tried to put a small section of one inside one of the doors that opens in your books?

I'm halfway through the video.. LM, when u fold + tear ur pieces it looks perfect vwhen I fold stuff that I've glued underpants on, (OR if I'm covering the center of a 2 page spread- like one piece of underpants covering both sides, in the middle...lol!!!) Anyway, when I do this- it's all goopy n globby n buckles! My underpants start lifting off whatever they're stuck to. What am I doing wrong? Ok I'm finishing the video now. 😘

What sort of resources do you use to get your fabulous focal points?

I have couple questions, gesso? I see what you have on Amazon, but is it drys clear or opaque? Stabilo? To apply and to smear it, do you use water? When you are done, will the Stabilo come off if touched? This looks so fun!👋🌻

Did you use only one piece of string on the binding? If so, do you know about how long it was for this many pages? I assume it would be a different length than putting the 5 or 6 pages together on the binding tutorial. Is there a rule of thumb for figuring out who much you will need for any given project? I love this idea of using the cards!!
