Has anyone ever used the looper in the Timeline in a similar way? Please comment and share your results!

Chords Of Orion I haven’t but I’ve been using dedicated loopers. This sounds like a great alternative for a smaller footprint if the looper meets the needs for the piece. I rely a lot on decay which is why I’ve somewhat ignored it up till now.

I normally use a dedicated looper too, but have been very pleased with the results of the Timeline!

Ive been using the strymon with the a ocean machine with tape loops lately for just some crazy fun ,but the strymon is amazing ive had the ocean machine for ages but when i loop from the ocean machine into the loop of the timeline the effects are insanely beautiful with endless ambient possibilities.

Ohhh man the way that low note blended into the drone was just beautiful. That's how it's done right there.

Yes, I set the Timeline settings as you outlined and created a really cool (seamless) drone! Worked really well. I can see how I can use this in my pieces. Thanks again, Bill

The Chords of Orion are wonderful videos, Bill. I've bought a few pieces of gear because of them. Nice to see that "ambient" guitarist is now a recognized genre, as it should be. I love your inspiring music, and you are certainly responsible for bring some RU-vid respectability to the genre. Ha!. I remember having to modify old guitars and use multiple tape decks using the same tape while squeezing the sound through multiple old guitar pedals and a Space Echo to get my ambient guitar sounds. Though it was satisfying to get nice sounds with the effort, the wealth of ways available to create sound now is simply amazing and preferable as far as I'm concerned. Thanks!

Hey this is a really cool usage of that looper! I didn't realize there was a loop exit mode and I've used the timeline quite a bit. Thanks so much for this!

Thanks so much Bill, this was a really helpful video. I fooled around with my Timeline's looper, but frankly, I didn't make much progress so I just kept using my other loopers. Thanks for unraveling the mysteries of: 1) putting the looper after the delay (which is contrary to what you usually do, based upon another tutorial), 2) the "blank loop" technique, 3) the other Global setting to let you keep playing while the loop is running (with a different delay engine!). Not to mention that cool pre-set you're using. Tomorrow I'll be on this one. BTW: I have had limited success with my El Cap looper also. Frankly, I haven't given it a real chance, but if ever you run out of ideas for tutorials, (&!%?), a similar lesson on the El Cap would be fantastic.

Hey Bill - Nice to hear from you! Glad you found the video helpful - and yes, you are correct that I don't often place loopers after the delay. But this application in the Timeline is certainly a good option, and can potentially save on pedalboard space. I do want to get an El Cap at some point. If I do, will definitely work with the SOS option. Thanks!!!

In this video how do you turn the looper off after you finish . In a live setting . Love your videos! Thank you !
@chordsoforion

Glad you are liking the videos. To stop the loop, you just re-enter loop mode and tap the stop button. It's not as elegant as a dedicated loop pedal that may have a fade out effect, but its functional.

Boy I really try the linec6 pod X3 was the flag ship now can get for a couple hundred and you'll be surprised what's inside. I've wanted a Stryman timeline because of the ice sound

Really nice sound! Nice videos. I don't really understand when you loop the silence part. It is not the same if you record the same sound twice? I try to do the same effect (more simply of course) with my Ditto x2 + Reverb M300 + Delay Carbon Copy. Thanks
@carlosgca

Ok, I already have the answer XD. Easier creating that silence part. I have done it like this and it is great ;-)

Very nice Frippertronic-like sound. I guess to get this sound it‘s essential NOT to use any quitar amp, because of its limited frequency spectrum, right?
@chordsoforion
@chordsoforion 6 лет назад
You should be able to get a similar sound using a guitar amp too. I would suggest keeping the amp clean, and working with the distortion settings. Also, suggest placing a compressor in front of the distortion.

Hi Bill. Thanks for your video! I just purchased the DD 500 from Boss. I don't master it very well yet. Do you think it's possible to do the same with? Greetings from France.

Nice video. I was wondering what kind of power source you use to power your effects chain.
@chordsoforion
@chordsoforion 6 лет назад
Currently, I just use the power adapters that come with the pedals. I am looking to upgrade to a dedicate PS in 2018. Probably the Strymon Zuma.

Chords Of Orion I use the Zuma (and the Ojai). I can’t give a better recommendation for pedal power. Top notch!

Chords Of Orion soon I wull buy the Strymon Ojai with a few daisy chain cables this unit can power like 9 pedals,I never use more than six so its a great choice.Zuma is great too but It suits more for big pedal boards.

Hey Bill, forgetting about the looper, do you prefere this pedal or the strymon DIG?
@chordsoforion
@chordsoforion 6 лет назад
If you just want a pattern delay, the DIG is better. Anything else, the Timeline.

Dr Bill, I keep buying pedals but can’t be bothered to turn them on I think I’m frightened of all the twiddling and settings required. Just keep playing acoustics.. any advice thanks ?
@chordsoforion

Stop buying pedals and move ahead with the acoustic guitar. Sounds like that might be where your heart truly is.

Is it better to use a time line like ms or bpm?
@chordsoforion
@chordsoforion 6 лет назад
Neither way is better, however, if you syncing the delay repeats to a click track, metronome, or a band, thinking about it in BPM can be easier.

Chords Of Orion I’ve a time line but I don’t even know what to do with 😭

Why did you do an empty loop rather than just recording the drones on their own?
@chordsoforion
@chordsoforion 4 года назад
It's a trick i learned from several other ambient looper players. Creating an empty loop locks in the timing of the loop and makes it much easier to get smoother seamless loops when playing ambient style soundscapes.
@CedricSatterfield
@CedricSatterfield 4 года назад
Ahhh...okay. I didn’t think of ambient having a time signature, so to speak, so I forgot about that aspect.

@chordsoforion

If I am not consider the cost difference, the Timeline for sure. The DIG is one of my absolute favorites, but it does not have the range of tones the Timeline has.
