Never knew about this plugin, I feel like Cubase is full of those hidden gems that we can keep discovering forever! Brilliant video, will definitely play with this a lot! :) Also love your intro, sounds epic!!
This guy is the real deal, and the best teacher on RU-vid about Cubase I've seen yet. Been using Cubase for almost 2 years now and I feel like I know NOTHING when I watch his amazing tutorials! God Bless you Dom for all this information to keep us inspired and helping us all get better as producers and song writers!
Dom, I've been using Cubase for 22 years and have never really understood how to use Midi-Gate until your clear explanation. Thanks for your excellent videos, you totally Rock!!
This is pure wizardry! The character of the synth pad changes radically with the different settings. I especially love the smooth but quick attack setting to produce that pump.
OMG!!!!! DOM!!!! Where have you been all my life?! Do you know how many videos I've watched on sidechaining in Elements or using a plugin without a sidechain input?! I've seen countless Midigate videos - this is the first to explain so concisely and comprehensively how this plugin works. THIS IS AMAZING! I feel even more confident promoting Cubase now...
Coming back to cubase and I am beyond amazed how much steinberg give so many tools for side chaining all this time. I had always have struggled figuring out the perfect side chain and even venture to other DAW's and I keep coming back to cubase simply because of versatility it has to offer.
I just finished a whole Cubase Course with an amazing Mentor who taught us a heap load of useful tips and tricks, and still I come back to Dom's Channel for even more Hidden Knowledge! Thank you for the Quality Content 🙏
Yet another Cubase plug-in that I was unaware of! I am ramping up with soooo many more Cubase plugins as go-to’s thanks to you, Dom! You rock, good Sir! ✌️✌️
New to Cubase 10.5. Used SX2 for 16 years. I still integrate both DAWs. I always look for your videos to ease the learning curve. They're so easy to follow and the quality of the sound is the best. Thank you and Cubase for posting them.
bro you are absolutely blowing my mind with half of your videos. Like I thought I was the only one that loved Cubase as much as I do but apparently the master has revealed himself to us all. Thank you for this one I'm actually going to use this in pretty much all my newer releases lol.
That’s the trouble with Cubase it rarely boasts of all the things it has hidden under the hood. These things have been around for years but Steinberg doesn’t push them enough to show off
I’m rediscovering my love of cubase after a 10 year break from music production and your videos have been gold! Thank you so much for everything you do Dom. Big love.
This is amazing! I’m not keen on being forced into compression for the side chain effect and this video has given me an entire new range of things I can take advantage of! Dom you’ve done it again 💪🏾 SAVED VIDEO.
my greek brother friend Dom ! i don't have words! Every time i see your videos i think i do not know anything about programming even i work with cubase about 17 years!!!! congratulation!!
I've been using it to briefly punch in an effect send. Typically to add a delay to a single drum hit . It works especially well with more intense effects like Molekular than are too much to have going all through a mix.
@@waynejovis Create three tracks: (1) Create a drum track. (2) Create an FX track with the midi gate first and then echo/rever/etc after that. (3) Create MIDI track, assign its output to the midi gate. Now write some parts: Record or draw a drum part for track 1, Then record or draw midi notes for track 2. When ever there is a note playing, the drums get sent to the effects.
That's awesome!!... I always used third party plugins to do similar things but with this Cubase pluings that I didn't know that exists I can do the same and rhythmically have more control. Cheers 👏👏👏
Man, im not your language, and of all tutorials of you tube, i understand at perfectly yours. I like how you speak cuz i understand all you are talking about at perfectly. Tanks so much. That
First of all I want to say that I really enjoy watching your content and the way you convey it. Both friendly and professional. In the 80's in one of my famous productions (there were no computers) I recorded hi-hats at different rhythms on the tape. And I used them as a trigger to activate a gate through which Pad passed. Since I'm breaking my head how to do it on a computer and I have ways but this plugin simplifies everything.
Just wanted to add some basic stuff about this plug-in . . . even though it's triggered by MIDI, it is an AUDIO plug-in (not a MIDI insert). In Dom's video, it's applied to a MIDI instrument track (which is a combo of MIDI and AUDIO) . This is probably the best way to launch an internal VST instrument, especially if you're going to use this cool plug-in. For those who prefer MIDI tracks, (like me), especially using VST's multi-timbrally, you'll need to locate the the audio channel to which you apply MIDI Gate, and make sure ONLY the instrument/patch you want is routed to that channel. THEN AGAIN . . .that said . . . no reason you can't apply MIDI Gate to a Group Channel, which could include all kinds of stuff! The cool possibilities just don't end!!! Hope that makes sense . . . :-) Pete Radd
Working on a track where I have almost this exact effect on a synth in the chorus, and have been trying to nail it with tremolo, but not really getting it. This makes so much sense as a better method. I also do all my vocal stutters by literally splicing the audio wave into separate segments. Totally tedious and can't easily change and test out different patterns. So glad I found this video.
Damn. Just realizing Midi Gate doesn't come with Cubase Elements, which is what I have. Do you happen to know of any other similar plugins that are cheap or free that could accomplish something similar?
Again a perfectly made video from Dom. Also in terms of video technology, as one or the other should notice ...! This great and so far underrated Cubase plugin, as always, gives us Cubase users from Dom a lot of fun, with great attention to detail and with enthusiasm brought and explained in a practical way. There are some excellent Cubase professionals on RU-vid. Dom definitely belongs to it !!! And a first-class sympathizer !!! STEINBERG will surely consider himself lucky to have such good and competent people. Greetings from 🇩🇪
Very cool, I will use it immediately on my new track, never heard of this, amazing in it's simpicity and effectiveness, thank you so much! It can be used in place of the step designers and step modulators, directly on any track with unlimited variations.
I was amazed with those tricks. Awesome Dom. "ola ta lefta". Ps : native English readers don't get me wrong. "ola ta lefta is Greek slang and stands for expressions like" mind-blowing awesome etc" 😎
Great tutorial, thanks! I was just trying to gate some audio with keys the other day in a sampler with limited success, this is literally the solution to my problem.
Super duper stuff Dom.... Just jaw dropping techniques showcased. I guess you could use a bit more tools and make a game changer ftom this stock pluging sitting in par with something like the Izotope Stutter Edit !!!! Thanks Dom.. Love your presentation as always... Cheers mate !!! 👍👍👍👌👌
Another frickin great video!! Reminds me some side chaining years ago with similar results. What I did back then that was kind of cool was to route midi drums, say the high hat, to the side chain (midi gate in this instance) for perfect gated sync between parts (guitar and high hat, bass and high hat etc.). Another cool thing would be to automate the parameters in midi gate for extra variety. What Dom did which is cool is to insert effects. I’ve used delays on send channels with great results. This is very cool. Thx so much!!
Great stuff!!! To be honest: I never used this plugin up to this point. And I thought I'm an advanced Cubase user with a deep knowledge of the program. I have to admit: I was wrong! I'm looking forward to use this Midi-Gate on my own!
I’ve been using Cubase for years and never used the midi gate.to create pumping or chop effects I’ve always used chopper. Thanks don I’ll give this a try in future
