You need a water holding brush to clean up with. You have a soft brush tip and pen that you put distilled water in. The water wets the brush as little or lots ,,as you want. Great PMC TOOL!!!!

Thank you for this video, super helpful. I would love to see another that goes into detail about what gems to use, I have tried this with cubic zirconias but the gems I picked changed colour!

💕 I'm definitely planning to make another video that dives deeper into silver clay techniques. As for cubic zirconias, it's a bit of a test-and-learn process 😂 like lots of tests to find the stones.

Hey! Amazing rings you’ve created! I’d like to know what kind of stones did you use?

Hey! Thank you! I used high-quality CZ (cubic zirconia) stones for these rings.

If I managed to get an alexandrite stone to set into the silver clay would it get damaged in the baking process? And could i as someone with no jewelry making tools or experience make a ring for my girlfriend with those materials? I find making things myself to be important, especially when gifting something like jewelry to a person. If i were to make it myself what could i get to help me make her the ring of her dreams as an ordinary person without professional tools?

Just do it! Buy plenty of silver clay so you can have a few attempts. Spend £100 on clay and £50 on tools and you can make something great!

Love that you want to DIY a ring for your girlfriend-that’s super thoughtful! About the alexandrite, these stones can be tricky with heat, so it’s best not to bake it in the silver clay. You can totally make a ring without fancy tools, though! Just shape the ring, fire it up (a kitchen torch will do if you don’t have a kiln), and set the stone afterward to avoid any damage.

Hello from the UK, if like in your video the clay breaks, is that it for the clay or can it be reused in anyway?
@funkyfunyou8571
@funkyfunyou8571 29 дней назад
Hi! Great question! If the clay breaks after firing, unfortunately, it can't be reused for firing again. However, you can definitely recycle the silver material by melting it down and reforming it if you have the right tools and skills. If it breaks before firing, you can just re-wet it, knead it back to a workable consistency, and start over. Hope that helps!

Where did you get the flat acrylic ring sizer from? Can’t find them anywhere!

hey, I don't know if you''re going to see this, but I am wondering if I could use this technique to make a pendant cap around a crystal/gemstone or would the shrinkage of the clay when firing damage/break the gemstone? Thanks!
@funkyfunyou8571
@funkyfunyou8571 4 месяца назад
It really depends on the type of stone you use. Most hard stones can handle the firing process without breaking, but if they aren’t covered sufficiently by the clay, they might pop out of their setting. But just many stones can't stand high temperatures-often, their color darkens. You should definitely check with the stone suppliers and consider doing some tests yourself :)

I don’t have a grill or a gas stove to fire this! What are my alternative options? Can I place the mesh on an electric stove top and do it?
@funkyfunyou8571
@funkyfunyou8571 4 месяца назад
I don't think an electric stove would work for this, as it doesn't provide the same direct heat as a gas stove or grill. A better alternative would be to use a torch gun, which can provide the direct, intense heat needed for firing.

Why do you use sandpaper to polish before and after firing
@funkyfunyou8571
@funkyfunyou8571 29 дней назад
Sanding before and after firing just makes the piece smoother and shinier. Doing it before cuts down on how much you need to sand after it’s fired up.

Where do you get the gems from?
@funkyfunyou8571
@funkyfunyou8571 Год назад
Hey! These gems come as part of the silver clay DIY kit we offer in our store. If you're looking for similar gems, you might want to try searching for cubic zirconia online. The key is finding the right ones that work well with silver clay, and we've done a lot of testing to ensure ours are suitable!

There is a gold and bronze version of metal clay.
@funkyfunyou8571
@funkyfunyou8571 4 месяца назад
Gold clay is indeed quite expensive, so if you're looking for a more budget-friendly alternative, yes, you could try using bronze clay. Alternatively, you can create your piece with silver and then send it to a local jeweller for gold plating.
