The young woman who visited your home definitely gave you a compliment! Wherever you look, there's something interesting and visually pleasing; your bedroom is no different. Thank you for sharing! I love this channel ❤
I love that you use family pieces with a story! Your home and gardens are beautiful and I can identify with your philosophy of "the lowest price brings the greatest enjoyment"! Keep the videos coming!
The bench and the chair are where they were meant to be. I think it helps with cottage decor. I look at it as found and put together of things we love and what makes it so comfortable.
I LOVE your videos. My 100+ year old house looks different from everything else’s, and I like it like that. I have lots of handiwork items; petit point, my friend’s grandmother’s needle point, and my own cross stitch. I love what I have and don’t intend to change it.
What a beautiful and charming bedroom. You’ve saved a lot of money by tackling some DIY projects. I will check out your other videos. I love nurturing and decorating my home too 😍
I adore the way you decorated your bedroom. I agree completely that following fashion is the most silly thing to do, it's not your taste but someone else's!!!! Will start watching your other videos as this is the one I found. Thanks so much for such a lovely tour!!!!
You lady took the words rite out if my mouth...you read my mind about how, what we choose to surround ourselves with in our/MY home. I've done it for years and it always turns out the same....comfy....in a mind set way, visually, the sensation that I wanna live here has been expressed to me thru the years, it's a great compliment...but it's just me thats all.....God bless...from So California.
Oh my I adore your home. It epitomizes everything I love… beauty, class antiquities and family memories. These are unique to each one of us. This is why your home and mine too are unlike any one other home. Your home warms my heart as does mine. Blessings!
Your house is beautiful and exactly my taste. I also shop in thrift stores, antique stores and consignment shops. Like you, the amount I spend on a piece is where I find my delight. To prove it, I can tell you what I paid for each piece, years later. The less, the better. I do spend money on upholstered furniture because at 62, I need comfort. But I prefer vintage to new, and agree with you, I want my house to reflect who I am. Not the latest trends. Just me.
P.s. I laughed at your " haul" analysis! I absolutely dislike those types of videos and all those look alike kirklands and hobbylobby houses. I am with you for thrifting and curating a unique home.
I so enjoy your videos....and I so enjoy you! We are kindred spirits when it comes to decorating and I agree with all your choices. The artwork is beautiful, especially the Renoir print. And what a story about the bed frame , that survived the fire! Thank you for brightening my day.
Laurie, I just love your bedroom, so warm and inviting! I can see myself sitting in that beautiful toile chair and gazing out at your garden! And the bed story is the best! You are so lucky to have so many pieces family pieces gifted to you. I have a few and enjoy them every day! Take care, and enjoy your weekend!
The room is beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I discovered your channel about three weeks ago and I’ve really been enjoying each of your videos ever since. When you said in one video that the first thing to be decided in living room furniture placement was where to put the piano, I knew right then that we were kindred spirits. I look forward to seeing more installments in your channel; our interiors are VERY similar!
Welcome!! My son will be joining us for a video (hopefully soon) and got a piano a few years. When you meet him, you will understand the irony. It just doesn't feel like home without a piano.
I did the same thing in my bedroom years ago. I purchased a rug from an antique store for $500 (what I really wanted would have been thousands). It had the design and colors I loved but I wanted that Aubusson look. Almost like a tapestry and the reverse side of the rug gave me that. I used it that way for years. When I wanted something different, I sold it in an antique store for the same price I had paid originally.
Thank you for sharing your home and thoughts. Your home has a timeless quality of comfort about it. I so enjoyed watching this video. I just bought a newly build home and I am watching video to help me organize my thoughts about where to put my favorite things that I have collected over a life time. You were so helpful. Reminding me to just be me and also what went in one room of a previous home can look lovely somewhere else as well. Thanks so much!
Glad you enjoyed it! I often have to stop myself from using things the way I or my mother or my grandmother always did. That's often when I am most thrilled with an object.
Lovely room ,you’re so lucky you have all those family heirlooms,Your house does have the look French as the photo showed it’s lovely ,I came from England 30 years ago sent two boxes of treasures over most of them smashed in transit,From day one we thrifted ,yardsaled and street picked to furnish our home,By now we’ve amassed a good bit ,we have bought only a few new things ,the thrill of the hunt ,I know what you mean about the “hauls “ I had most of that stuff before it was popular ,haha ,
I really enjoyed your video! Your home is so lovely. This is exactly my taste on home decor. This and white farmhouse melts my heart. All thought they are very diffrent taste, I love them both so much. They are 2 styles that bring me joy just watching. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and home.God bless you! Beautiful, just beautiful!
Would you consider making pleated lamp shades in your blue toile material for the beside lamps? I love a fabric "blitz" in a room .... but that may sound like too much to you! I do not sew but imagine you could make the lamp shades with your many talents!
I don't have enough fabric left to make a handkerchief! But I would like to try my hand at making a lampshade some day. And those lamps do need new shades. I will work on that. Thanks for the suggestion.
When our kids were young, my husband and I decided a king-sized bed would just be too big an invitation for the kids to join us at night - the last thing we wanted! Thanks for your comment!
I agree, my favorite finds are the inexpensive ones. I Love cottage style, have a red Toile chair that I had re covered. I paid $5.00 for the chair. Thank you, glad I found your site.
Please tell me about then blue lamp trimmed in white. Is that something you remade yourself or did you purchase it already painted. I absolutely love it. Thanks for the information.
I found it at a thrift store and added the blue paint. Amazingly, I found a mate for it a few weeks ago at a different thrift store and will be painting them to match so I have a pair. You can see the new lamp on a more recent thrift video - "Thrift Haul and Decorating Challenge."
A new subbie here, I adore your French country bedroom. Loving the blue toile & stripes with the yellow walls💛 do you mind sharing the name of your paint color? Thank you! Look forward to viewing your past videos.
Thanks for subbing! My wallcolor is Sherwin Williams, Blond. The trim is SW Dover White. The color was a bit intense with the bathroom tile, so I used SW Lotus in there.
Both! I prefer real candles, but not on shelves or any place that could start a fire. One of our family traditions is having grandchildren use the candle snuffer. It's not home unless you have a snuffer, so I have made sure my daughters have one too.
having watched a few of your vids now, am wondering on the colour paint used on the walls, noticed appears to be the same in many rooms to give coherence and that is alters slightly depending on the light.
How did you connect your iron bed to the bed frame? My husband has an iron bed inherited from his great-grandmother. We are trying to for a queen mattress on the frame . Thanks
Good question! Sadly, the answer is that the bed frame is not connected to the iron headboard. It is just propped between the wall and the mattress. Because the mattress and box springs are so tall, it is very stable. That is part of the reason we don't use the footboard. I have contemplated using a block of wood and attaching the frame to one side and the headboard to the other. Just never had a pressing need.
Definitely. The little sofa has a toile de jouy, a French style fabric traditionally with pastoral scenes. Other common colors for toiles include: green, black, dark red, magenta, and brown. But contemporary fabric artists are using a variety of colors and scenes. Like the New York skyline or UFO's!
I love your beautiful house, I recently redid my bedroom in English cottage and I absolutely love it. Almost everything in my home has either been thrifted or given to me, I buy very few new pieces. I do not like the all white farmhouse look, it’s boring and has no character, I need color.
I am a subscriber because I love your decor and decorating tips, but I was very disappointed to hear you mock other youtubers for their "Hauls". Not everyone has access to beautiful antiques handed down to them. Successful tubers cooperate with each other, but you seem to be just competing. You will lose in the end with this attitude...just trying to help.
Oh my gosh….that is it….how old is that woman??? a come on….who says that a delightful well antique created room looks like DISNEY?????? I am not sure I even understand that??!!! What the heck
