Oh my goodness. I have been eyeing this frog for a long time. Finally decided this week to just go for it and got the pattern (my knitting skills were pretty limited lol). So I went on the hunt for RU-vid vids, found this one, and you give so many helpful hints!!! I saw your vid was new and felt like the timing couldn’t have been better. Thank you so much!! ❤️
That's so awesome! Thank you so much!! Claire did a really great job of making the pattern read-able for beginner knitters but there are some tricky parts (like the arms) that definitely benefit from a few videos. I'm so happy you found it to be helpful 💕
I've made Claire's Frog pattern three times now. I love that little face and it always makes me smile. I love your little froggy, he turned out great, I love the cheery little face. Leaving a sub!
Is there an actual tutorial anywhere on how to do this? This was WAY to fast. I’m a new knitter and I don’t understand the pattern at all. I need help.
Amazing I have learn so much from this video. I have brought the pattern, and was stuck on the legs. I think you have explained everything very well without giving away the full pattern that must have been hard, well done you. Hope to see you do more of Claire's works. X
Can someone with absolutely NO crocheting experience or knitting do this? Around how long does it typically take to finish? I really want to try and attempt to do this for my girlfriend!!! She saw this CUTE instagram post and showed it to me MONTHS ago and was obsessed!! Now I want to make it for our anniversary coming up!!
I want to know this too. Because I’m about to just straight up either try this, or maniacally start knotting and wrapping yarn around until I get a frog shape 😂
I am so in awe of your skills .I am new to knitting and love Claire Garlands patterns ,but they are not for beignners .Your video has helped me so much ,may thanks
I’ve been wanting to make this for a while now! I’ve been knitting my whole life but only ever beginner level projects. How hard would this be with only a basic understanding of knitting? Also, does she have a pattern up for the little sweaters? Awesome video with great insights!
Yes she does have a pattern for the sweater! It's called "froggy's sweater" (I'm making a more full blown "how to basics of knitting" with the sweater 😛) As someone who knew literally zero about knitting I would say it was a very easy pattern to follow. The only thing that was challenging was the i cord limbs at first, and i still have difficulty when i have to sew the two parts of the body together, because the edges of each colour are different lengths. You can do it!
@@livlafluv5075 thank you for the encouragement! I’m determined to make this now. Saving your video for reference too, it seemed like you had some useful insight as you went!
How to Knit a Frog,
I bought this pattern and have knit the body no problem. But when it comes to the legs ... I'm lost! How do you end up with the i cord seam? When I knit it (no matter how tight I pull it) it doesn't join up at the seam. So frustrating. I must be doing something wrong!
Hmm, and you're making sure that the working yarn is being taken from the furthest stitch (the last stitch knitted for that row) and pulled back "across" all the stitches to the first? If you have a "ladder" affect where the seam is you can crochet some yarn into the ladder, basically creating an extra stitch. If you look up how to do a drop stitch (a method people use when they mess up on a stitch many rows before that allows you to redo some stitches without unwinding everything.) If you're still confused I can send you a video of exactly what I mean, it's early so I might not be making the most sense right now 😂
@@livlafluv5075 Thank you so much for reply. Last night I persevered and it's not too bad I just had to add a couple of stitches to the thick part of his leg but it turned out not too bad. I'm delighted with my little frog. Thanks again 🐸
@@livlafluv5075 OMG, I really would love a video with detail on this. I have the same problem (and also my english isn't as good, so i get really confused easily). I pull the string, to get it tight, but nonetheless is not working... and it gets so thight that I can hardly work on it. I know it has been a years from your video... I'm sorry to bother...
I have the pattern and am new to knitting! I have now managed to knit the body about three times but really struggling with the legs! Even after watching the video ! Any further tips would be great 🤞
Can anyone help me :( I bought the pattern, but I am stuck on the right hind leg first row...I do not understand how to go from the cast on 4 st to 7 st...I would be really thankful for any guidance!
Hello! I am making this frog and having trouble all the way back at row 2. It says to purl 4&6 but there are only 5 stitches on my needle, I am very confused and if anyone can help id appreciate it a lot. I'm not very familiar with knitting, but I know how to crochet fairly well. Edit: Never mind, I get it now. Dyslexia got the best of me. It meant row 2 3 and 4 purl, not "For row 2, purl 4&6"
I finally bought this pattern because the frog was to cute to be left! Very nice video! I was wandering: how do you stich the two part together? because I have a lot of trouble with that and was hopping a little help!
Thank you for the nice comment. To stitch the pieces together I just did a simple sewing stitch, idk what the name would be but you basically take the sewing needle and put it into the body then back out maybe 3mm from where you put it in, then do the same to the frog. It's like the most simple way to sew but I don't know the name of the stitch 😭
I bought the pattern yesterday and I"m stuck on the legs and my lip looks like duckies from the land before time 😂😂😂😂 Also, you can really feel the salt from the people who didnt actually buy it 😂 Getting mad because they were cheap 🤣
The lips will definitely look odd. Best advice i have is to sew them down onto the face, it sorta flattens them out a bit and they don't look as duck lip like. (Also don't even get me started 🤦♀️ the amount of comments i get saying this isn't a tutorial and they're annoyed. Ya it's not my pattern!)
Hello. So "work short rows" just means you don't complete the entire knitted row, you only do a couple of the stitches for that row. So for all the rows in that section (rows 1-5) you are building the haunches on the back legs, if you skipped to row 9 (which you could definitely do) his body will be shorter and less properly frog-shaped
100% you can, you might need to restart a few times but you can do it!! My first frog i had to undo and restart a few times, especially for the haunches at the back as they are difficult. But you can do it! With big needles you'll just have a massive froggy (assuming your yarn size matches the needle size)
Oi, boa noite!
It's been 3 months and my frog still only has one leg, can somebody PLEASE help me 😭 I've read the pattern 2,000 times and still can't get it right. * never mind 😅😅 I finally figured it out
That seems very complicated, but it´s so lovely, unfortunatly the knitting needles mom bought to me are broken (I got so sad) and I´m way better crochetting than knitting. I´ve been thinking about this pattern for quite some time and got a little too obsessed with frogs
Thank you for doing the video:). I bought Claire's book and was stuck on the legs. Love your video-so much info. I don't think I could have figured it out on my own. Pipe cleaners are the best:). My first frog is a fat one:)
I want to thank you for the tutorial. I know I’m a year behind but I follow someone on Instagram who knits and creates outfits, so freaking adorable. I finally caved and had to have one of my own. The problem is the pattern I have ordered off Claire’s Etsy doesn’t have I cord legs and arms. I actually don’t care for the formation of the appendages on the pattern like I do in your video or see on the instagram frogs. I’ve messaged her on Etsy to inquire if I bought the wrong pattern. The Instagram frog has hashtag small frog so I assumed the small frog is the pattern. Twiddling my thumbs while I wait. Thanks for your video!
I love the video, and the frog, but am a bit confused about your "knit" side vs your "purl" side, I have always understood the opposite, the knit side shows the smooth 'V's and the purl the bumps, am I missing something?
From my understanding if you go back and forth between knitting a whole row, then purling a whole row, the purl is V shaped and pretty. When I was 14 I learned how to knit and made a scarf that was literally just knit stitches on all rows and it was the ugliest chunky thing I've ever made, with not a single V in sight :O
@@livlafluv5075 so to clarify this, the side that is facing you is the side you're impacting when you are stitching. What you are doing here is often called stockinette- you are knitting the right side (creating the Vs) and purling the wrong side. Knitting both sides creates a garter stitch, which is quick and sturdy but yes not very pretty haha
I bought the pattren also am stuck after wand t i can do that but how do you close them up i see no instructions on picking up the stitches to close the holes please can you help? Thank You
You just make me very happy today I don’t know how to knit but I will do my best to follow this tutorial my baby daughter she is two and love frog and toad and this will make a perfect Christmas gift for her. Thank you, thank you, thank you❤
Compré el pattern de Clsire.....if you can send me the slow motion video of the stitches of the ridges (W+Tp) and (W+Tk) please...I don't understand it.thank you! La página 4 very duficul for me...por favor ayúdame a entender!
Oh Thank you for making the video!!! I bought her pattern and made the body with no issues for me. But now I’m at the lips/beak and the legs and wasn’t so sure. This video is so helpful.
Some parts are definitely harder when you have to translate yourself. The eyebrows are basically just chains so that was a very smart solution! Good job
I have brought this pattern but can't figure out the rows and how many rows, Claire goes on about slipping them off the needle then back on again, this is confusing me no end. I have got dpns why do I need to slip them on and off ?.
If you have dpn you don't have to slide them off one needle to the other, you can just move them along the same needle so the other side of the row is available for you to knit into.
I have been wanting to make these cute little froggies forever! I just bought the pattern and I can’t wait to get started! Would you happen to have links to the yarn and needles you used?
I hope the pattern is easy enough to understand for you! I don't have any specific links for my yarn and needles because I bought them from a small business in my town. I would check out some local yarn stores as I find the DROPS branded yarn in most stores, and I think it's online as well. The needle brand is ChiaoGoo and I use the bamboo type
i barely know how crochet, you think if i buy it the pattern i can do it? I only did a case for my tamagotchi like 3 years ago and don't remember anything, but i want to do a frog so bad :c
RU-vid is your friend 😊. Watch video's with knitting for beginners. Learn to read a pattern and understand it. Making a project is like following a computerprogram or recipe: do exactly what is written.
hihihi! you did a great job with the video! for some reason when I'm sewing the two pieces together the breast of the frog is way too small for the back. Do you think it's an issue with yarn size and gauge?
Nor I! The mattress stitch pulled it too tight and tucked under the outside row of stitches which isn't good when there's not that many to begin with 😮
Hi, What colour yarn did you use for the two kid silk colours? Im guessing it was 19 and 20? Thank you for your videos on the frog pattern, I have found them very informative!
The legs are challenging, so don't feel bad if you have to restart a bunch! If they are still really loose, you can work some extra yarn in between the "ladder rungs" on the side thats too loose and doesn't seal properly. Just under, over, under, over, some yarn up the ladder and it'll hide the openings:)
The video is called "How to Knit a Frog" by Claire Garland, it might help you as she is the original artist for the pattern, so she's able to show more of the steps :)
Oh nooo. If you drop a stitch you can always unwind to a row where all the stitches are visible and hook them back onto the needles. I've also seen videos of people using crochet hooks to "knit" just that column of stitches.
Hi! Very late but i was wondering is some parts or the pattern knit with DPN? Or is it knit flat and seamed together? I haven't gotten the pattern because i wasnt sure if it was knitted on DPN, i haven't learned how to knit on DPN so thats why im asking ^_^
I personally knit this entire guy with DPN, but only because i only own DPN. They aren't needed for this per say, as it is knitted flat then sewn together. I just like the look of dpn more plus i find them to be lighter. They do help for the knit/purl and turn stitches cause you can slide them to the other side of the needle instead of needing to slide them off the needle, onto another needle.
The needle size and yarn weight work hand in hand to dictate the size of the frog. I've recreated the exact same pattern with aran weight wool and 5mm needles and got a frog thats roughly 1.5-2inches bigger. If you shrank just the needles it might be hard to make depending how tight the yarn gets, but it would make it slightly smaller as the stitches would be tighter. Change the weight down a peg and you'd have a tinier frog baby :)
Definitely! The pattern is the first link in the description of this video, on the site 'ravelry" it costs about 3$ to purchase and is really easy to follow :)
Just couldn’t follow (understand how things were done, say the eye bumps) what you were doing in the video, but I got the pattern and will see if I can make it.
