Creating a Light Rider/mydmx GO Profile for the ADJ Starburst using Profile Builder

Showing you how I used Profile Builder to create my own profile to better control fixtures such as the ADJ Starburst. This video show the Profile Builder used with Light RIder but the same Profile Builder can be used with mydmx GO.

Thank you. I’m thinking I’ll do a few more of these for different fixture types, to explain how the different channel types or ‘traits’ work within Light Rider or MyDMX GO.

When Light Rider mixes desaturated colors, it treats all "Extra Color" channels as White. If your fixture has a non-white color channel you want to control manually, you should classify it as "Other" rather than "Extra Color".

Yes, you can do that. You can also set the "Extra Colour" colour value but it seems to have a weird effect on the colour mixing in live mode so I've refrained from setting it at the moment. There's more to Extra Colours than we realise and the User Guide is lacking any detail. I aim to find out more and when I do, I'll share it here. Thanks for your input though.

Excellent explanation. Just wish myDMX Go was more mature for use with Android. Finding it very flaky

Hi, thanks for the excellent tutorial! As I am using the ADJ Starburst, that PAN Feature helps a lot. To that video some remarks and questions: 1) You are using "Strobe off" within channel 7. If you are using strobes, after that the Starburst keeps dark, so better you are using "Closed" and it works fine. That's my observation. 2) The "freeze" special effect button is not working proper for this setup unless your are hitting the button randomly when the Starburst is between 141-145. 3) Same with the "Center"moving-effect. The rotation is still on, any ideas how to get this working? Tried to use the "fixture properties" and change some values, but it seems to have no effect.

Thanks! I know what you mean about using the PAN feature and Freeze. When you hit 'Freeze' LR stops the pan channel at whatever value it's current set to - and with the Starburst, that may mean it is still rotating. I don't think there's a workaround for that. Center is the the same. You should be able to drag the center value to somewhere in the 141-145 range and the pan will stop. I have also asked the support team to respect the Pan Center settings in the profile but at present it doesn't work. LR always assumes PAN Centre is 128 which of course is not the case for the Starburst. Good point about strobe too. I'll try that next time I have my Starbursts out :-)

Thanks for your video, well explained. I have managed to build profile for my ADJ Starburst, and I have the movements available, but during each of the sequences the intensity of the light fades down to practically nothing, then returns to full brightness again on a repeating cycle. Obviously I have gone wrong somewhere, but not well versed enough to know where to adjust. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers. Ian Price.

I'll soon be running another test, so I'll try to report my findings a little more clearly. Btw, I didn't mention, while building the profile following your tutorial, none of the twelve channels that I set up had an automatic reading of 128 like yours did, which I didn't understand. More info asap. Thanks.

I wouldn't read too much into that - although mine show 128, that appears to be linked to the live output option for testing within the Profile Builder app. It's not a value that is saved anywhere.
