Great video I loved the dramatic music on ant arrival! I have a question, why are the ants in such a sterile environment? wouldn't they like stuff? leaves? sticks? just curious :)
Good question. It's been done for 2 main reasons. 1 it's easy to handle. 2 if you introduce soil and or other things. You also introduce the chance of diseases. Especially in smaller colonies it's a risk. But more on this soon :D
It's good that they're okay. The same thing happened to my hibernating colony, and unfortunately all the workers died, followed by the queen. Could I just ask about the mesh in the nest how have you made it. I was trying some stuff with modifiers and infill. But the result is not what I wanted.
much faster way of doing this is in the slicer. Import a modifier object, and set it to have no top or bottom layers. set infill percentage to 50 percent or so and set the pattern to rectilinear. Provides very clean meshes and with almost no effort @@TheCraftingAnt
@@chungnun4948 This is possible. But to make the smallest grid on my printer. I use vertical and horizontal lines with a height difference. If i dont do that the flow of filament will fill the intended grid. And with an infill you get the same if you want to make it small. So yes more work. But a better result for me.
Tar Heel’s original steel mesh in growth chamber nests are the beat for humidity ☝️ Not hydration or condensation however 😤 Humidity is great for queen ants and her pupae. The workers still need to go out and drink water from test tubes and water feeders though ☝️
