I received a question about how to make a "DMC worthy" DJ routine.
It's been a very long time since I created a DJ routine. When it comes to battle routines it was back in 1998 or 1999. The only other routine that did include turntablism was my Michael Jackson routine from 2009. • DJ TLM - MJ Tribute (R...
I don't have the formula for a solid DJ routine, but there are a few things you should keep in mind:
- It takes a lot of time! You will have to practice and practice and practice!
- What's the purpose? Are you just trying to showcase your turntablism skills or do you want to impress a party crowd? If you want a routine that you can use in the clubs it might be a better idea to create a routine similar to the RedBull Thre3style routines. These routines are all about rocking the crowd with a great song selection and adding your turntablism and controllerism skills.
- Have a good intro and a strong finish
- Focus on your strong points. Your skill level will be a deciding factor in what kinds of 'tricks' you will be able to add to your routine.
These are just a couple of tips. I will be recording a special behind the scenes video for my upcoming routine video (in a couple of months) to show you the creative process.
Enjoy the video and share the knowledge!
