You all have been asking so I have provided. A detailed look into how we identify and manage small acreage properties for waterfowl. Please like and subscribe if you are enjoying these videos.
You guys rock! Thanks for the "likes". If the video gets over 100 likes we will do a deeper dive into some options where water level can not be controlled. Thank you!
Great! It is easy to do and works great. With the siphon, you have to keep eyes on it as it can become clogged with turtles and debris since there is so much suction down there. If you do it, make a video. I just checked out your channel, good stuff
Great video! I have a new waterfowl lease this year with perfect waterfowl habitat so I plan on doing exactly what you are doing. I set up my first Wood duck box today and already have a pair on trail cam checking it out. My lease is flooded timber with a flat field in the middle I plan on putting in a food plot and flooding it. It's also next to a river and a huge lake. We had good success without doing anything so this season should be epic. Thanks for the videos.
Hey man, I have a farm in Johnston county that borders a large creak, I was wondering if you could give input on how you would construct a duck impoundment if I provided pictures. Great video!!!
@@Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors yes it does lol I binged watched all your duck pond videos while at work I was very impressed. Hopefully this week with the weather will finally bring some down south
When bringing the predator guard up out of the water, how long did it take you to master keeping the water on top long enough to be able to dump it in your lap? Just messing with you. You had that look like, "did I really just do that". I checked a nest box in February once to put new shavings in it and there was a hen woodie in there on six or seven eggs. I was amazed how early she was nesting. I checked five of my blue bird boxes yesterday around my dove field and three had nests in them, but only one had an egg in it. Oh, one other thing I found with setting wood duck boxes is that if the water body has large mouth bass in it I would not place the box in the open water. When the little ducks jump out the bass would pick them off. Those type of water areas I put the box close to the shore line in shallow water or even on the bank. Thanks for the video. Much appreciated.
Ha! So the U Bolt had fallen off that supports the guard somewhere in travel and I didnt realize it. Went to put it up and it fell down. I just rolled with it! Went back and put some zip ties under temporarily. Thanks for following along as always!
Awesome video! As far as hunting over the rice goes do you leave a hole without any rice as a decoy hole, or do you just wait till everything decays and falls under water? Super excited to try something similar next week! Keep up the awesome work!
It decays and falls over plenty enough to create natural holes. in a small swamp, the more food the better so I dont leave anything unplanted if I can help it. Thank you!
Not a dumb question at all! Water availability is key. These swamps are in a very active blue line stream so anytime we get even close to an inch of rain, the will flow. I have so much flow that I had to remove the 4" and 6" pipes and install the flashboard to move enough water
My dad just dug a one acre pond and we are planning to seed it. Will we need to drain it every year and reseed? Hoping to have a pond that we can stock with fish (and not drain) and also attract water fowl.
Yes. Unless you establish a perennial aquatic weed, everything I do typically has to be replanted. I do get volunteer millet coming back, but that is not a guarantee so i reseed to be safe. Its cheap
How shade tolerant is the rice and millet? I know they both will do much better in direct sunlight just wondering if you had noticed one being more shade tolerant than the other.
I have not noticed a difference between the two in that regard but if I had to guess, the millet might be a little more shade tolerant than Rice simply from the fact that Rice takes a lot more energy (sunlight and nitro) to produce seed. Again, just a guess
I have used both Rex and Diamond varieties of standard Agricultural rice. Check out my rice planting video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y3qaH-QrKWU.html
