This week the gang is back! Games Workshop sent us some of the new Kroot miniatures, so we tasked the team with painting a variety of custom colour schemes! Expect to learn our process for how we painted the models, and how we generally tackle experimental projects too. You’ll also hear our top tips for taking shortcuts when adapting colour schemes to your army, so you can get the best quality for the most efficient investment of time.

Only found this podcast 2/3 weeks ago. Just finished my first minis in over a year, and I tried glazing, blending & recess shading for the first time. Thanks for the inspiration.

QOTW: so, looks like Jim has upped his game! So backhand across court I go! Question for you chaps. When do you class a model as done. Im always going back in and doing a little extra here and there, and also get sidetracked with other projects with the new shiny stuff, so never really complete a project/army. What tips can you give to a grim dark noob like me?

42:00 This process I use a ton for making guns and armor look dinged up. I call it "dry scratching" anywhere I make a note of it in my logs. Works best with smaller brushes, like maybe a size 0 or 1 thats lost its razor point.

Those last two are absolutely insane. What colors did he use to do the Tiger one? If I can get the colors right I’ll do an entire squad of 20 with that scheme.

I know some people say 'if you can't see it then it doesn't need painting ' so painting in sub assembly is not necessary but I just can't leave things unpainted so sub assembly is essential for me, I'm still a noob so to speak but I'm also really OCD about many things

Complementary/near-complementary colors combining over each other will desaturate. George’s happy accident with the purple is the same reason why pink (magenta) underpainting works great as shadows when painting a model yellow all over.

in cans primers are generally for adhesion only. Some brands can market as "paint & primer" which usually means they prioritize adhesion a bit more than a line not marketed that way. Either that or they are all lying to us lol.

Acrylic will adhere without primer it's just pigment and adhesive mediums in primer, preparing the mini helps IE sanded and washed.

Gents, I have a question about a weird/new experience I had this week. Bought my first Astra Militarum Sentinel and was really looking forward to building and painting it. I'm not new to hobby modelling but I really didn't enjoy the assembly process and now that it's built, I'm underwhwlmed and very uninspired to paint it. I could move it on, or persevere and paint this stupid laser-chicken that I'm growing to hate. Any tips on how to get past this 'ugh' phase in the process? Great show as always!

Put an all over base coat of the colour you paln it to be and just take it from there. Once you get started you will have it done it no time (around 6 weeks 😂). Starting it is better then not starting
