That's good that you're in tune with your customers! People don't have large plots so you scaled the tarp down! This is where Johnny's is missing the ballgame! They don't listen to their customer. As a matter of fact they eliminated the customer review section. They feel like this was a forward step, lol. I am glad that my vicious nbr who knock my tallest sunflower down let it lay. I like keeping my nutrient and not throwing it away. It fell w/ a perfect square pattern soil lift, lol. This was after she complained to the borough about not being able to see at the stop sign that is on my side of the road and she lives opposite a 3-way and NEVER NEEDS to us the stop sign on my side of the road, smh!

Hi Travis love using tarps . Great video ! A trick I use with the tarp is to chopped-up a crop and dry it in the Sun for a couple days spray a biological inoculant a quart of Hoss micronutrients and some unsulphured molasses secede to the soil life this will greatly increase the speed in which the crop is broke down and the amount of soil life it increases.
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 5 лет назад
Not a bad idea. We did inject some Liquid-Fish through the overhead sprinkler on the Sorghum Sudangrass a few days before we crimped it. The goal was to feed the soil once more before the tarping.
@johnandleighs.9193
@johnandleighs.9193 5 лет назад
@@gardeningwithhoss My goal is to feed the dry crop with some type of fungal food or bacterial food such as liquid fish seaweed and or molasses that way the soil life will be more attracted to it and it will break down faster and enrich the soil more thoroughly. Also if you spray a compost tea or a biological inoculant on it ,it will put back a lot of the soil life that is destroyed / killed when we till.

@HOSSTOOLS: I had an idea while watching this to make your job faster and easier to deploy and remove. If you put grommets in the tarp and have eyehole stakes in the corner areas you could hypothetically pull the tarps into place all in one go pulling ropes. You'd need to have the tarp being pulled upwards as you went to prevent snagging and tearing up your tarp in the process. You'd also need one side staked in along the entire edge every 8 to 10 feet. You'll need 2 to 4 ropes to pull, each at different lengths because you'll be pulling from one side due to space constraint, i.e. you'll be walking from the corner you want to pull the tarp towards over to where the tarp is already staked. Hope this helps. I'm disabled, so I'm always looking for an easier way to do things like this without asking for help while increasing safety. If you choose to do this, make sure you buy galvanized metal stakes to prolong their lifespan. Also, nylon or plastic ropes also last longer and are more durable, however gloves are required to safely handle them long term like this. To raise the angle you pull the tarp at requires using longer rods, I suggest 3' above the surface but not much higher due to wind concerns. Concrete rebar is cheap enough to fill that role year after year, just remember to paint it so it doesn't rust.
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 4 года назад
Grommets would indeed work. We can't install grommets in the tarp due to the way we fold them, but the end user could certainly do that to make things easier.

Hey Travis you reckon if a fellow was to grow some mustard, and till it in good, the directly put one of them tarps over it, would, or could it trap up some of them glucosinolates and get you a bigger/better kill on them pesky nematodes/tiny wigglers (Meloidogyne hapla)? Or might'n the gas just raise up to below the tarp out of the ground and stay there producing no more additional affects?
@gardeningwithhoss

The tarping process is supposed to increase the effectiveness of mustard to reduce nematodes. Just make sure you remove the tarp and give it a couple weeks to "air out" before planting another cash crop.

@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 5 лет назад
At one of our consulting farms we are using a "tarp and till" technique to get rid of the Bermudagrass -- because it can be so stubborn. We basically scalped the grass as close as we could with a mower, tarped the area, and then are tilling it every couple of weeks. It is working really well so far. Almost got all of the Bermudagrass rhizomes outta there.
