It's been over a decade since I rode and worked on bikes(situational issues) and I only seen some of your videos today. Last night my brother arrived with a 1978 GS550E for a project for me(birthday present and to help me get my mind off today's issues), today I quickly realized that the head gasket was gone and I've never delved into the heads or gearboxes of bikes in my life and almost decided to give it up straight away. After finding out online that the parts aren't that expensive 'now' (long budget story) and finding your gasket/head videos I'm going into the shed tomorrow with confidence and can't thank you enough.

@@UrbanMonkTV Almost there, just some carb tuning of the main jet and mid-range and it'll be good. Took you up on the recommendation of using Uni Pod filters. Of course they fit perfectly, so glad they're collapsible, wouldn't have found them without your videos, brother! Any plans for any further Cafe builds?

This has been one of my favorite things to watch the last few years. Many times, it was one of your videos that gave me the confidence and patience to do a lot of the maintenance on my GS myself rather than paying someone else. With this series, you’ve built a great video reference library for anyone going over any 8v GS, or some of the things that go into any cafe project. Thank you for all the great videos and lessons.

Hey Mate, I am from Brisbane Australia. I really appreciate your content and how thorough you are explaining everything. I just acquired a 1977 GS750 and am starting my build. Very excited for this journey. I will keep sharing details and bother you from time to time for some knowledge share(hope you don't mind). Cheers Abs

Oh man I love it when I hear someone has purchased one of these great old bikes and is diving in. Thanks for your kind words and for watching. I'd love to hear updates along the way and I don't mind a question once in a while. Happy to help if I can. Be sure to grab some manuals from BikeCliff's site gsarchive.bwringer.com/ Enjoy your journey!

That is so Kool! My shop teachers were memorable and the reason I went to ASU and graduated as an Industrial Arts Teacher! I preferred Junior High... get them introduced to this knowledge at an early age... my Dad was a great help earlier than that... always let me build stuff and guide me to maybe do it better and safely.. I also still have things I built in my shop classes Thanks Dad, Mr. Norman Robson and Mr. Mike Griswald

It was awesome being a part of this! What would be even more awesome is if we could convince Mr. Kortan to meet us at The Quail next year!

Nicely done! I've followed your project since the beginning and I've learned a lot for my own project. So thank you for that! May I ask what carb settings/jettings/needle height etc you ended up using? I do have the same bike and carb filters. 😊 Thanks again

Glad I could help! I went up two sizes from stock on the main jets and changed nothing else. It get's too much air when starting cold so needs lots of choke, but once warm it is really happy and goes quick.

Great series, l have a GS550, or two, ready for a resto-mod myself. So l have enjoyed this series and learnt what to avoid. Can we have one more vid with a tank mounted camera of a longer ride on some twisties ( a road with lots of curves) so that we can see and hear how good the end results are from a riders perspective. Is that the Brady Bunch house opposite yours or does it belong to Marcus Welby MD ?

Will do after COVID lockdown is over. I'm itching to show you guys what this thing can do on the road.

Ha! The days of me coming home at 2am are long behind me. 😄 I figure I've been blessing them with my electric car for 4 years, they can take a little brapp once in a while. Some of my neighbors make their own brapp! 😃🏍🚘

as you know already i am building a Suzuki GS550 total basket case. I was looking for your video you explained, on were the hoses on the carbs go too ?? could you please send me the link, as the manual is not all that clear. and Thanks for your time.
@UrbanMonkTV
@UrbanMonkTV 4 года назад
I forget which it was. I think it was the carb sync video or possibly the carb rebuild.
@UrbanMonkTV
@UrbanMonkTV 4 года назад
The two tubes coming off #2 & #4 go to above air cleaner. They just provide atmospheric pressure. The port/hose off #3 goes to petcock release valve.
