Making trails for walking, tractor, UTV and golf cart usage will assist our land recovering from a timber removal operation. This video shows how I created trails paved with woodchips and dealt with areas affected by water run off by decreasing the slope of the land and building berms with left over debris. The early stages of establishing the natural flora and fauna are demonstrated. Even though this piece of land was radically changed and disturbed, the significant contrast of biodiversity that exists in the soil coming to life is very quickly creating a vibrant habitat compared to the neighboring biological desert made by recreational mowing.

Thank you, Todd. Now that we have finally gotten some rain, and it has been driven over many times, the trail has lain down nice and flat providing a comfortable cushion. No erosive water run-off either.

Do I detect you have a similar distaste for "recreational mowers" as I do? I have one right behind me, and no love loss , ( actually for several reasons). . . .although I have been using my grass clippings on the vegetable garden for mulch and to enrich the soil later. I can see your M.O. for building the higher ridge of chips on the high side of the path, to slow the water run-off. You probably have a specific purpose for this new path. To get somewhere you couldn't before? Did you sow zinnia and marigold seeds? I really like seeing the progress on you great outdoors Ken! Thanks for another great video. This one has inspired me to get outside and tend to my own yard . Keep 'em coming!

Wow! Thank you, Jake for watching and your lovely comments. Yes, I detest recreational mowing. If those flowers are zinnia and marigold they are coming up on their own. Maybe they will spread? I have built about 4 miles of trails on our place that allow us to have access without running all over the place. The wood chips look good and make a wonderful walking surface and golf cart driving surface instead of rutting out the land. Did you "subscribe" to my channel? If you did you can see all the stuff I've done on our place and other interests as well.
