Hey guys, love the tutorial and I'm sure it's a great tool for a lot of places. I even downloaded it to try myself...the downside, here in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina where I grew up on the trails and know them like the back of my hand, there's so much tree coverage that main highways will disappear and the logging trails that I know so well...you can't see from the satellite or with the 3D rendering. Just something to point out. Thanks for the Video
Absolutely. Same with the Sierras and some places are worse than others. For Slick Rock Trail it took a lot of memory and review for me. The more the coverage the harder it is for sure.
I just gotta say that you are awesome, just everything that I need and look up, you my friend always have the perfect video!! Thank you for the tutorial, will make all my trip planning a lot easier!
Good video, been doing this stuff myself for awhile. Couple of tips to add as well. Google Earth Pro has been free for about a year and has some more great additional tools. Also, get a 3D mouse for navigating, million times more easy and fluid when flying around!
Yes please I gotta go back to what Andrew was saying about the GPS unit and maybe a tutorial on how to use that as well? Maybe there's a video out and I haven't seen it yet but this is a great informational video as always you have awesome info and vids. Thank you.
Great tutorial ... i´ve been using google maps, but this way its easyer ... no "bounds" for Portugal now! Great job. Thanks ! Keep up! Love all your videos ... all the way on the other side of the ocean ... keep the first person speache ... you are making the difference! Show us more camping sites and the cooking ... Abraços
If you use mapmyride.com and go to create route, the line will actually follow the path every time you make a point. This works for most major off road trails as well and I find it much easier than making a point every inch on other programs. It is then easy to import to either .kml for backcountry navigator or .gpx for google.
#3141 Awesome information, good explanation, been a while since I used google earth on this way; this was a good refresher, and made me pull out my GPS unit and give it a once over.
Great video! I immediately went on and logged the trails we did on our last two overland trips! Feel free to make another video on more in-depth features of Google Earth! OB#2758
This is awesome a great tool I’m going to be trying. This is far different than google maps. I’ve been searching for answer to a question all over the net. But how can you find out beforehand the difficulty of a trail and wether or not your rig can handle it? I don’t want to get miles into a trail and come up on something I can’t get through, and I’m not able to turn around.
Great video. Very useful. I have a question. If you add a route and waypoints to your GPS using this process does your GPS tell you the distance to the waypoint as the crow flies or along the line of your route? Thanks for the great video! Matt
just started my own route but when I went to far I had to back track and right click like you said my issue is that it takes the points off but not my first point so I have this odd ball line across the screen any help would be appreciated thank you
hey michael, great tutorial focused on the most important features! wonder how importing of gpx files works in pocket earth pro, which i intend to use on my ipad. do you have any app recommendation for offroad navigation on a tablet? or do you use a dedicated gps device? cheers!
clunky and though tiny screen. if you consider a tablet being at about the same pricing, though more versatile. i see, i still need to spend a few more evenings on research for the 'ideal' offroad nav app :-)
Overland Bound I use Google maps and download the area I'm traveling in for offline use. It is as good as any GPS unit I've ever used and better than most. If I could add these files to it, I'd never need anything else!!!
Hi. I believe i have the new version of Google earth, and its more complicated. Should I erase it, and try and find the 2017 one? Whats your reccomendation ? Thanks a lot.
