That playing is simply amazing. I have the MODX but I do not sound like him. It goes to show that the musician is the most important link in the chain.
Loved that expressive nylon string guitar sound -- it blew me away. How well do you think the keyboard could reproduce an authentic zither sound, like the famous Anton Karas theme music for The Third Man movie? Same question for the "gypsy guitar" sound of Django Reinhardt. These are just a couple of thoughts I had when I heard Mike's excellent guitar jam
@@hitzoneproductions7858 Actually the ES8 has most of the Motif sounds but it doesn't have additional sounds the Motif XF and it doesn't have additional Montage sounds. The Montage has everysingle Motif sound plus additional sounds. The only sound the Montage doesn't have is the Powergrand from the Motif Classic
It's pretty easy to make this patch. If your keyboard have layers function, you can use Strings Section type sounds for layer number one, Violin/Orchestra type sounds for layer number two, and Sweet flute sounds for layer number three. Add expression pedal to your assignable pedal keyboard input.. Done 👌 You are an professional keyboardist, you should know about layering sounds and I believe you can do better than that! Warm regards, sukses terus mas!
If you can edit your envelope parameters (attack sustain delay etc) and a decent strings you can create this on most keyboards. Like the other guy said, layer with other patches to fatten it up. Though to be honest, garbage in is garbage out so start with something good.
This is wonderful! I’m not gonna lie, it was refreshing to see a brother on the channel. I would love some more touches on gospel patches, especially with the Yamaha

Remember keyboardists... guitars only have 6 strings, and limited intervals... if you're trying to mimic. That said, playing is fantastic and those guitar sounds are scarily good... hope you don't put me out of work ;)
Very good point, when you are synthesizing something, you have to have to imagine the player and instrument in your mind. There is a tendency for a keyboardist to play too many notes for the character of the actual instrument.
Yamaha MODX (which gives you the Montage sounds if not all the functionality) is easily the best bang-for-buck synth out there. Scenes are an absolute gamechanger for live performance. Initially I was put off by the complexity but it's worth the effort. New OS updates added sequencer and Morphing feature. The only negative for me are the piano and organ patches, which is why I use a Nord 6 underneath (pianos are fine but just not to my taste...nothing cuts through like the Nord's Bright Grand patch!) I believe this combination gives me everything I need for almost every musical situation.
Oh yes Serg. I agree. Especially these days. Music heals and brings people together and that is what this world needs. Healing through music and togetherness. Love to you my friend!

That's my exact setup and has been for a decade. Tried the MODX and it's cleaner than the MOXF but I prefer the old acoustic pianos for some reason. If you midi up a DX7II, you can get some great EPs. I sent the MODX back and prefer the old convertors/filters. Maybe I'm just getting old! (Toss in an old Roland MKS20 and nothing touches that big, warm sound for EPs)
Ahh yes. I love the classics too. I have a DX7, DX7S and an EX5. I've had Yamaha synths my entire life. My first real synth was a Yamaha DX27. I was 9 when I had that one. Then I added a TX81Z to the mix. Oh yes. Yamaha for life!
What a great guy Mike Patrick is and an amazing player, his fingers look made for a piano! Unlike the stubby lumps at the end of my hands lol. Mike vs Luke...what a battle that would be! :)
A good musician can make the cheapest instrument sound amazing. We get all hyped listening to these various product demos , go out and buy the latest synth or VST, then get home and feel disappointed because our musical attempts aren’t the same caliber 😩
Question, when Mike brings in the strings for the first time with the pedal, do they play every key that is pressed or only the left hand or so? They seem to follow along with the melody, but not mirror exactly what the piano is playing and I have no idea what's going on (all I know is it sounds absolutely glorious) :)
How come they couldn't have made the flashing blue safety beacon on the dash more intrusive? You can barely see it from 200m away, what the @#%$& good is that? You're not going to pull anyone over with that tiny thing.
Mike, that performance was brilliant. Wow. Question: So, since the MODX is supposed to essentially be the Montage without the sampler, shouldn't MODX users be able to create such beautiful performances/combis as you created in your Montage?
Yes, it should be able to. The MODX does include the same sampler abilities too by the way. One possible difference with this demo, is the MODX is more limited in polyphony. When you fade in parts, on MODX you would have to carefully check how many parts each patch is taking up. But you can often reduce the number of parts which often equal very minor differences. Note that MODX does have more polyphony than many other keyboards still. Also, the keybed is different. Some of his technique with the guitar could be using aftertouch, but I'm not sure. Might just be velocity switching. You can MIDI a MODX to another keyboard with aftertouch, and to one with of equal quality to the one of the Montage 7. Having gone from using a keybed in my Korg that is closer to the quality of the Montage 7 and to switching to the MODX, I have not found it be much of a limitation for the way I play. I'm more of a synth & organ player, but I play piano too. I was a heavy user of aftertouch, but modern keyboards don't take advantage of it too much as older ones did. I'd like to see a video on how he setup his patch to fade between them with the expression pedal.
Great video. Such great playing and sounds. So refreshing to watch a couple of great musicians talking so easily about such complex things. No egos or BS here. Lovely stuff. And good old Dan Bingham gets a massive shout out too! Dan loves it. Loving the content!!! 🎸🎸🎸🎹🎹🎹
There's actually ways to edit each string instrument to make it sound more real. I have a Yamaha moxf8 and have 3 songs on my new channel that shows what this keyboard is capable of. Check it out!
Haven't tried this but you could probably get something like scenes on the Motifs by using Master patches and setting them up to use the sounds you want and scrolling Masters as you need them in sequence.
This was my favorite one so far! So much info and great sounds. Saw only synth based demos of thr Montage so I didn't know the montage had the acoustic sounds on lock like that. Please bring Mike back.
Such a great insturment and thanks for demo'ing it for us. I do love the sounds of this board however go ahead and slip anything in there from the cheapest fisher price key board to a 30,000$ actual grand piano and it's going to sound good in his hands. Simply phenominal playing. I don't need a Fu''in keyboard I need lessons and about 30 years.
for a minute, I couldn't find this video and i panicked big time. this is special work. Please never remove this from the matrix. How can you back this up If the internet gets broken by something?
That demo sells the unit. I can't play the piano/keyboard but this makes me wanna buy and start. The sounds are professional sounding and Mike brings the sounds to life with his amazing tasteful playing.
The chord progressions and harmony in general.. fantastic man. Can’t wait to here soms explaining, which will follow soon, if I’m right? Very impressive playing!
Mike Patrick totally has got it...Awesome... So well presented, and demonstrated.. Please do more Mike...can we get your set ups somewhere with scenes?

I'm soo glad he touched on, how great the guitar sounds are on the montage. This is my favorite keyboard ever. I am definitely blessed, to be able to own one of these.
I'm buying this board just because of you Mike, I'm not even close to your talent but maybe my daughter can play this board after so many piano classes. Amazing sound ..
