Thanks for sharing.... I have been in the market for Melodyne for awhile and I need this product to do exactly what you demonstrated in the tutorial. Thanks again for sharing.
@cglcon You can do this with other versions of Melodyne but not all in the same instance of Melodyne. You'd basically need one Melodyne window per harmony.
I usually use another track of the vocalist singing again the main melody line for harmonizing instead of the original track. That way, it won't sound as robotic (too perfect in timing and ornamentation ) but sounds more human (but in perfect harmony)
Also research in the manual: "Add Random Offset to Time Course" and "Add Random Offset to Pitch Center" Located in Edit > Edit Pitch cascading submenu There are also shortcut keys for this...Great for also creating Unison Doubles of a lead track. They add slight pitch and timing differences to each note.....There I go giving away secrets again...well, not really a secret, but if people would read their manuals LOL..
is there a general rule of thumb to follow when making harmonies? as in the pitch distance that each vocal track is from the original? one octave? or do u just place the vocals according to what sounds best for the low, high and mid harmony? if anyone can help, feel free to reply pleasee!
I recently tried harmonizing a few parts to a lead vocal track of a song I'm working on using melodyne and when I listened to the end result, I took my ass back to the mic and did the harmonies myself. I aint puttn out nuttn that makes me sound like stiff throat. ----Q----
It still sounds pretty "robotic" (think Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek). This is fine for fooling around or song writing, but for a final recording you should really sing the harmonies separately if possible. I'm not a strong vocalist so usually I'll sing the harmonies as close as possible then just lock in the pitches via melodyne.
I'm usuing Melodyne 3.2.2.2 as a plug-in through Sonar X1 Producer. I have a vocal track loaded onto Melodyne in order to correct some minor pitch drifts and add some layers. When I "ALT+SHIFT+DRAG" the desired blobs in order to create a harmony it ONLY plays the new layer and not the original. In the editing window I have it set to "Play Arrangement" so I shouldn't be having this problem right? Can anyone help me please!
Can I do all those edits in melodyne essential ? I need program which can help me edit vocals, but without this pointless autotune robotic sound. I need pitch, timing, modulation edits, so i can 'straight' vibrating voices, or make them to vibrate if i need to.
Has anyone else had this problem? I have purchased Celemony Melodyne Editor 2 for my Macbook Pro laptop. After opening the package I then inserted the disc into my laptop, then, my laptop with the disc inside it started to make a loud humming noise for about 2 minutes before ejecting it out. I tried it multiple times, but the same thing just kept happening. The installation window did not pop up at all nor did any option to run the program, everytime I inserted the disc it would just make that humming noise, then eject. I have searched carefully on their website and all over the internet for troubleshooting or answers, but no information for the problem I am experiencing comes up. I am very frustrated, sad and tired. Please if anyone reads this Id very much appreciate it if anyone could get back to me. Thank you.
I agree. IMHO, he shouldn't have pitch corrected the lead vocal before duplicating it, and saved that step for the end. The natural variations in the pitch would have been preserved a little better. Also, IMHO, if you are going to use this to create harmonies, why not have the vocalist sing a separate take of the lead line in a softer voice or something that would impart a different quality, then manipulate THAT version as your backing harmonies?
Mmm, this guy uses it in a bad way. Pitching the support vocals upwards when the vocalist allready is singing so high pitched is anything but musically smart. I've heard incredible results with the use of this teqnique elsewhere, this video really doesn't do Melodyne justice...
