This tutorial is a more advanced and improved version of my older Inn Keeper Tutorial, it will show you how to create an Inn Keeper who can buy and sell items from you and can also rent you a room for the night. You can also make them use their own idle markers so that they go about and do things like sweeping the floor.

No problem, glad the tutorial helped. Interesting you got the locked door thing to work also, its a nice touch.

It exports the face data for your NPC into a folder within your Skyrim files. Not sure why it isn't working for you, I've never had any trouble as it should just pop up a dialogue box. Only thing to do with the Creation Kit is reinstall when you have trouble.

Are you sure you have clicked on the actor whose face you wish to export and then held ctrl+F4 together you should get a little dialogue box come up if not then I'm unsure as to why.

Not sure on that, you can do it, just place a key in his inventory that's set to the door and then in the packages somewhere it should have a flag for door locking.

That's a strange one, you could try placing some preferred Navmesh to the bed itself and also double check that you have gone into the script for your Merchant NPC and then link referenced to the bed you wish them to take you to. The way to do the preferred Navmesh is by clicking on each triangle going toward the bed and then clicking on the fourth button from the end of the Navmesh toolbar (You can just press P) and you should see the triangle(s) turn a funny yellow colour. Hope that helps.

That's correct yes, I have set that before when having guards patrol a location but I have never seen it work with sand-boxing NPC's, worth setting though to prevent them from using the marker for too long. The reason my NPC in the video kept sweeping is because there's nothing else for him to do lol.

@cumdumpster, haha. you must be under the actor menu and additionally the actor submenu in the object window, highlight the specific actor/npc and hold ctrl+f4 and a dialog will appear click ok and save. any time you alter a physical trait it will need to be done i believe.

So ... the reason my barkeeper doesn't appear is because I need to re-cast the NavMesh - - which is not available in the Creation Kit I have installed. Perfect.

The innkeeper will rent a room to me but wont sell me any items. can you help?

I might be a bit late to the party but I am struggling with a smal problem here: after talking to my inn keeper to rent a bed he doesn't lead me to my room. i get the dialogue option, pay the gold ,rent the bed but then after exiting the dialogue he doesn't do the part where he's supposed to walk to the bed. the interior is navmeshed, the bed is assigned to the RentRoomScript. he also has the rentroom faction. i also made him owner of the bed...

That wasnt it, what it turned out to be (like 3 months ago) was that I didnt give them ANY voice, or a voice they can't use.

How do you make a inn server ? Like the ones that come to you when you sit down. I added all the faction and made a boss employee relationship.. but she doesn't even have a dialogue available allowing me to buy stuff.. i even tried adding her to a vanilla inn that already had one... made my npc identical to that inn server(as far as i know, clearly missing something) and still no buy option on her.. im confused

Well adding the rent room script to her (even tho you cannot rent a room from her) seems to add the dialogue to buy something from her.. that or something i changed with the faction. ..idk it works now.. somehow. Still havent figured out the part where she comes to you when you sit down.. but i dont really need that i guess. Thanks for all the tutorials!

@@premchandnl6580 I know this comment is 4 years old, but incase anyone was wondering the same thing or if you're still wondering the same thing, I had to go into the cell with my inn and set the innkeeper's reference alias to Boss (in the reference window go under Location Ref Type and set it to Boss), I also set a location center marker which I'm not sure is mandatory but the quest that governs these interactions (which is called WITavern in the CK) seems to point to one, so I added it just incase, i simply put a COCMarker and set its location ref type to LocationCenterMarker, you could use an xmarker instead, if you want it should be noted that the innkeeper's whose reference is now Boss, will also now do the usual tavern greeting to the player when they enter the inn
