The woman curator/patron seemed to put a lot of words in Walker's mouth.

Such an important work by Kara Walker and truly a fitting end to the Domino space. Nato Thompson, on the other hand, is truly insufferable in this video.

Kara did not create it - 2:44 the video shows the actual artists. Kara did not life a finger after her simple pencil sketch

@@rob-robi Apparently you, and others making similar derogatory comments, are not aware that the person who DESIGNED the piece IS THE ARTIST! People that are revered for past work, like Louis Comfort Tiffany, had the vision to create, in their minds (never mind on a piece of paper) works that they had no experience in actually PHYSICALLY producing. Those persons who built the sugar sculpture are skilled craftsmen, but they are NOT ARTISTS, when speaking of this sculpture. Kara Walker designed the piece. You may not appreciate the finished sculpture, but the people who did the grunt work, however skilled, are NOT responsible for its design. Without Walker, it would not exist.

@@markselleck8132 , derogatory eyes see derogatory things. My comment is accurate. Not even insulting, just accurate. My 7 year old boy drew some things also, pay a team of sculptors 100 grand or more and they could make his drawings into giant pieces also, promote it and he or any child could be said to be a great ''sculptor'' 2:53 shows one of the actual talents there. Kara Walker is the classic funded person, not the classic creative person. And the videos about the sugar sculpture are presented as if she creates the entire thing. ''Her'' sculpture exists only because someone like Oprah put up 1000's of dollars to have the team of actual sculptors make it . THEY are literally the only reason it exists .

@@rob-robi , first, I didn't say her work was exceptional, and I agree with your comment regarding the funding aspect. That said, Kara Walker was the creator of the piece, "the artist", however poorly you (and I, actually) assess the image's aesthetic quality. The piece is a political commentary, and I believe the aesthetics are secondary to many complimenting the piece. I've earned my living creating glass objects for over 50 years, and I'm proud that I literally make what I design. BUT, I also give credit to people who design things they are incapable of producing in a three-dimensional form: The Statue of Liberty was NOT designed by those who made the finished form, but the designer gets artistic credit for their imagination, as should those producing the finished statue be complimented for their skill. But, the creation of the physical statue did not result from those likely exceptional skills. Aesthetic "beauty" is in the eye of the beholder, as is the "artistic merit", and there are a lot of artworks that have sold for millions of $$$ that I wouldn't give a nickel for. There's "good" art, and "bad" art, and as many opinions on quality as there are people.

@@rob-robi This argument is so moronic. Are we therefore meant to throw Frank Ghery or any other architect under the bus because they didn't build the building? Should we credit directors for making the film, or the team of hundreds of talents behind them? This project is Kara's idea. She was given the money to create the project. This is what she chose to do with it as an artist: to create a giant sculpture and collaborate with people. Artists collaborate all the time. A project like this would be literally impossible for Kara to make on her own. Get off your high horse.

'Slavery and its effects were bad'. Yep, have anything further to contribute to this "conversation" you wish to start? That's my feelings on a lot of art from current artists that broach the topic.

You have no right to speak. At all, sit down. You obviously think you have the power to tell this woman to do, but you don't. Your whole statement reflects your broad ignorance of the subject at hand.
