At the time ships could easily sail the Americas from Africa, or shall i say Roman named Alkebu-lan. Ice ages gave contact between the main continents quite efficiently, as the traces are still to be found on the north polar territories if not permafrosted away through the ice ages. Something big hit North America more than 8000 years ago that destroyed world travel and trade and raised the oceans fast . Lingering devastation lasted for 100's of years wiping the memory of other far lands over the ocean .
