So, Fogerty grew up in California, but he learned all of his music skills listening to Delta blues, so a lot of his singing has a Cajun spin. It's easiest to hear when he turns "er"s into "oy"s

You did this right, Van!! Very few ever react to the long version of this CCR cover. Another long version you should react to is CCR's Suzie Q. A great song too. When I was 13 or 14, I saw CCR at the Budokan in Tokyo. It was 1971 or 72. All us siblings and my mom went and we sat on the upper level. Just before CCR came out, an earthquake rocked the stadium. We were hanging on to our seats while the building swayed. The the band came out. John Fogerty went to the mic and thanked the Japanese fans for such an awesome welcome, referring of course to the earthquake. Great memory.

The twanging bass, deep hard drums and the consistent beat is so solid and a hell of a recording. Shame is when this was active on radio back then they rarely played this longer version as it was not in tune with the radio programming ad quotas. The part of song where they bring in the funky part blew me away and the way they wind it down. They had to play this how many times to make this the final product

Been a fan/subscriber for a while, just wanted to say great reaction and I really dig that plaid flatcap. Got several myself, but none as fly as that. Stay well and safe, keep up the good work!👍✌️

It's hilarious that everyone has heard Marvin's version, then......they hear CCR's and get blown away. It's priceless. Love both versions, hate to say prefer CCR's.

Although CCR has many more members, the way they ended that reminded me of ZZTOP 'Shuffle In C. They were jammin.

You should check out their live performance of "I put a Spell on You". It's kinda old and grainy, but that only adds to the awesomeness.

John Fogerty was the lead singer and lead guitar player. He also played the harmonica and wrote all their original songs. He was pretty much the whole group.

A rare song where all 3 of the big versions are great. CCR, Marvin Gaye and Gladys Knight. I didn’t know The Temptations did it too lol

I love ur reaction to CCR. They've been my favorite ever since I was 6/7 yrs old, all my life. John's voice is magical. The deep voice is from the bass player. New sub here. God bless*

I am so glad you asked about "hoid it ". In the early 70s, I was going to USL (a university in Lafayette La.) located in the heart of Cajun country. You may have heard (or hoid) of U. of Louisiana Ragin Cajuns. I was a big fan of CCR then and got to meet my future wife's family one day. I noticed that several sounded just like Fogerty like saying "boid" instead of "bird" . I was convinced that CCR was probably from a small town near Lafayette. It wasn't until many years later that I found out that they were from California?! They had the Swamp Sound down pat. I highly recommend "I Put a Spell on You", preferably the live version at Woodstock, I believe. You have to see them live!

Agreed. I live in lafayette now. Went to usl in 90s. CCR sounds like pure south louisiana ... from northerm cali! Lol

Yeah, at one time I thought CCR was from Louisiana. I mean, who else could sing a song like “Born on the Bayou” than a band of Cajuns.
