The sheer bravery to cover the great Marvin Gaye, is amazing. Then to absolutely kill it? What a legend.

This isn't Marvin Gaye's song either so it's not a cover.

@@rath7948 That's some twisted logic there, that a band who does a remake of a song, isn't doing a cover. Walk me through your logic how someone doing it before Marvin Gaye, somehow magically transforms this song in to an original recording for CCR.
@rath7948
@rath7948 6 дней назад
@@Tijuanabill IT'S NOT A COVER OF MARTIN'S SONG...... Let me educate you on the history of music since your'e so desperate to attack my logic. In the past, songs were written by writers working for record companies. They weren't intended for any artist in particular, like jazz standards, which have been sung by countless artists. 'Grapevine' was written by a couple of writers who worked for Motown and they distributed it to several artists. SO IT DOESN'T BELONG TO A SINGLE ARTIST, THEREFORE IT IS NOT A COVER. It's a version. Marvin has one, Gladys Knight and the Pips did one, CCR of course, and a few more groups.

Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong wrote I Heard It Through the Grapevine. The first recorded version was by Gladys Knight and the Pips, and used a very different arrangement from the Marvin Gaye and CCR versions. Whitfield and Strong wrote a lot of songs, mostly for Motown artists. Some of their other songs are Ain't Too Proud to Beg, Ball of Confusion (That's What the World Is Today), Car Wash, Cloud Nine, I Can't Get Next to You, I Wish It Would Rain, Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me), Papa Was a Rollin' Stone, Psychedelic Shack, Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are), The Undisputed Truth, War, and You're My Everything. Most of these were recorded by The Temptations. Barrett Strong was also a singer. His biggest hit was Money (That's What I Want), which was the first hit record for the Motown label.
@richdiddens4059
@richdiddens4059 7 дней назад
The recording/release history is all mixed up. It was written for Gladys Knight but they were the third to record it. The Miracles recorded it first, then Marvin Gaye, and finally Gladys Knight. But her version was the first released. It became Motown's biggest seller up to that point. Then the Miracles recording was released almost a year later, and then the Marvin Gaye version was released and eclipsed the original. And this was released a year and a half later.

It is a masterpiece. You have a huge catalogue of CCR's songs to go through. "Bad Moon Rising", "Lodi", "Feelin' Blue", "Commotion", "Night Time Is The Right Time", "Down On The Corner", "Fortunate Son", "Cotton Fields", "Midnight Special", "Who'll Stop The Rain", "Up Around the Bend", "Run Through The Jungle", "Long As I Can See the Light", "Suzie Q", "Sweet Hitch-Hiker" etc.

What a joy it is to find someone else who appreciates Creedence almost as much as I do. This one is an absolute masterpiece. You really should react to nearly every CCR song. Grapevine is their longest track, but they have "Suzie Q" that's 8 minutes on the studio version, and there's a very good live version of it on the 40th anniversary edition of their debut album, that's about 10 minutes long. Great instrumentals on that one. "Ramble Tamble" is another, which came out on the same album as Grapevine. Please do explore their deeper tracks, as they are just as good or better than their hits that charted. Try "Walk on the Water" and "Pagan Baby". CCR is the ultimate feel-good music. Even when the song is about something bad, the music still makes you feel good.

Time for the very BEST (in my opinion) two CCR songs, one sad and one spectacularly joyful: 1. “Who’ll Stop the Rain.” A great Vietnam War veteran’s movie was made from this song. 2.” Lookin’ out my Back Door.” This last was their biggest and most beloved song, just makes you dance.
