The Mississippi sound was explored by countless artists in music, but only a few managed to get the sound across the globe and into the mainstream charts. One of those artists is Creedence Clearwater Revival. The Rock’n’Roll Hall of Famers were an incredibly popular band in the late 60’s and early 70’s, however their sound would live on for generations to come. Ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the top 100 artists in music’s history, they achieved worldwide success with their Southern Rock style. Their music is still a staple of American and worldwide radio airplay.

I'm new to CCR but I've noticed something strangely ironic: all the truly great bands who are legend making ... have members who either were competitive with each other OR constantly were having serious back stage issues including arguing and actual violence? Talk about suffering for your art?

it should be longer. but it's better than I was aware of. saw them once after Tom left when they were touring behind that last one, 'Mardi Gras', as a trio. we loved it. but we all wanted 'GRAPEVINE'. the Marvin Gaye cover. someone said to me, "they probably can't do it the way they want w/ out their rhythm guitarist." Bo Diddley opened, and was very impressive. Boston Garden '71 or '72.

I'm not anti- Brittiah. This Cat will try and tell the viewers he knows of the first time John Fogerty was potty trained. Toothy should be covering Bands in his own neck of the woods ,like Oasis, the Cure, Sex Pistols , and Bad Company only to name a few. I remember when I was just a little kid, my father had bought this 68 falcon with a 6cyl. The car was rusty, smelled like something that was at the original Woodstock. One of the best things it had for it was a cassette player. We had 2 cassettes. One was CCR's greatest hits. Every time I was in that car that tape played. Music that's truly one of a kind. CCR deserves more love. Every song was a story. We don't have much of that today. 🤘

However I wished they didn't play other bands music in the background throughout it as confusing and distracting. Also they could of reduced the frequency of cutting in with a comment every minute, however I am eternally grateful for this documentary. Long live CCR music. What is really funny and weird a few months after that my parents finally let me go to my first concert. So if they were worried about me seeing CCR and let me go to see Frank Zappa.. Well, they couldn't be more different.. LOL.. Instead of proud mary I got to listen to "Don't eat the yellow snow".... hehehe It was still a good show but I liked my next one better when I got to see "Ten Years After"... Man that was a great one... I still wish I could have seen CCR though, I got all their albums and listen to them now and then when the mood fits.... What was great about CCR is pretty much every song was a good one. I could listen to the whole album and not find a song that was bad.. That is a rare talent that few other bands can do..

I never thought of creedence as a "southern rock" band. I'd say they're more like the beginning of Americana if you're going to categorize. Or just plain rock and roll. I remember when Fogerty released Centerfield and MTV played the "Old Man Down the Road" video. This was smack in the middle of the New Wave/Punk scene that buried a lot of talented bands from that era, but Fogerty's writing, playing and singing cut right through all that bullshit and reminded us what rock and roll was all about. A simple rock and roll song with killer guitar tone, killer licks and a solid rhythm driving it cannot be beat by all the synthesizers, drum tracks and angst-ridden adolescent vocalists from London to New York. John Fogerty proved to me and a lot of other musicians I know in that moment that we didn't spend all this time learning to play to be taken out by some knucklehead who doesn't know his guitar is out of tune and likes to spit on his audience. It was a breath of fresh, clean, pure oxygen that came out of nowhere and I thank John Fogerty for that on top of all his contributions to music.

Playing it at home I've got my Air Guitar out & away I go.. CCR does not have a lot of live performances on tape sadly. Count it on one hand. Beatles are much the same, in fact in the 60s tapes were wiped after shown especially here in the UK. Tragic in a music way, still it makes the memories stronger when tracks are played. The Albert Hall at least was a good concert tho on the short side.

I agree. The narrator doesn't even pronounce John or Tom's last name correctly. He gives it the sound of the word Fog (short O sound ). It should have the long O sound. Also he pronounced their song Lodi with the short sound instead of the long vowel O sound. In other words it sounds like he was just reading words about a band he had NO clue about. Strange. BTW their Green River album was the first album I ever bought way back in the day, so I'm thinking I know more about CCR than the narrator. Ha

Brain dead Brittany Spears could pronounce his name right yet they really proof checked this documentary with the name pronunciations, the lack of contributors who had 9 teeth or didn’t sound like they were trying to talk without having to smack their lips to keep from spitting every other syllable and cool backing sounds of Pink Floyd??? You couldn’t find any bayou music to play in the background? I heard the other 3 band members songs that they had individually written n sang n no, John's older bro Tom didn't have a better singing voice than John, it was John Fogerty's gift n talent in writing the songs n singing that had made CCR as great as they had become. Honestly, I really couldn't blame John for feeling the way he did when they were inducted into the Rock n Roll music Hall of Fame, especially when they all had sued him bc of their greed for money, John had said that all he had wanted was to play n sing music. John felt that hey were done wrong by a certain person who had come between he n his bro Tom, who had turned his back on John until the day that he had passed, which had broken John's heart. I'll always love John's music, his voice was/is so unique, he had made CCR successful. I've loved CCR's music ever since I was a lil girl in late 60's, early 70's to presently.

@@kookadams85 They're both well respected music journalists with long, credible careers writing about music. They've both written numerous books about various different genre's of music, edited two of the biggest music papers in the UK and contributed as columnists to numerous publications. You may not like the way they look, but if you actually watch the whole documentary and listen without judging you might see that what they are saying is on the whole the truth about CCR. Go look up the names Charles Sharr Murray and Malcolm Dome. Fool.

Every time I listen to Suzy Q from CCR’s Woodstock set and I hear those power chords with perfectly controlled feedback (7:30) I get goose bumps. John was a master of that Rickenbacker. That tune was better than 90% of the music that made it on to either the Woodstock album or the movie.

A lackluster documentary, too much repetition of same photographs and lack film footage. Struck me as a bit of a budget documentary and had to force myself to watch it all the to its completion. Whats with the interview commentaries by two English chaps, why oh why ????? Overall I felt it did the history of CCR no great favors. This is just my personal take on it and how it made me feel.

The talking heads’ explanation of post-war America was basically a hit piece on the United States by a couple of bitter Brits. (Also the filmmakers substituted footage of US troops in Vietnam for World War II in Europe, which would’ve cost more money apparently.)

A great documentary! This shows you that ORIGINALITY is derived from a combination of souls making music.. This is the true recipe for musical originality.. The individual contribution to the collective assembly of the sonic soundscape is paramount .. You hear it and feel it when a collective creates great music as opposed to an individual musical creation... there is always an alpha, but without the creative collective ,you end up with a lesser product.
