Emerging at closed T-junctions (and other junctions) with ‘creep and peep’ (clutch control)
LADA - LOOK, ASSESS, DECIDE, ACT. Is the system we need and should use to be safe at a junction.
It is vitally important that you can see very well at junctions (especially ‘closed’ junctions - ie you can’t see) to make excellent decisions to emerge safely.
Creep forward to see more with excellent clutch control and even put your upper body forward to look into the junction better.
“as you approach a junction, your zone of vision on to the other road usually improves. The last few feet are crucial.
You can only decide whether to wait or go when you have put yourself in a position where you can see clearly.
Sometimes parked cars interfere with your zone of vision so that you have to inch carefully forward to see more. If another vehicle or a pedestrian is not in your zone of vision, you are usually not in theirs.
Looking means you need to assess the situation, decide whether it’s safe and act accordingly.” - Driving the essential skills book
