Not to say this is better than the original, but I feel like the shoegaze auditory aesthetic suits the melancholy and isolation of the lyrical themes of Creep so much better than the grungey style.
but the thing is, Thom Yorke admits that he 'hates' creep. he doesn't like the lyrics and doesn't reside with the song anymore, also because he thinks his other songs are so much better than creep, lyrically and technically. which I agree with whole heartedly. creep was from their first album, Pablo honey, and was a song about a girl he doesn't even know anymore. I don't want to discredit the original song because I know many people love it but this cover even feels more radio head style and I believe they would appreciate it very much. In my own opinion I prefer this version.
tbh im glad they didnt take it, i also like shoegaze but i think had they taken that path they probably would have died out like a lot of other shoegaze bands did from the time (plus having to be compared to mbv). hearing shoegaze interpretations of their work is still really cool though
nah but JESUS CHRIST are the "run" screams after 4:03 so fucking POWERFUL. it feels like calling out to someone who just doesn't hear you.. all too relatable
for everyone in the comments saying they wish radiohead leaned into shoegaze, listen to their b-side 'permanent daylight' -- it's the closest they ever got to putting out gaze and it's one of my personal favourites of theirs x
