as someone who bought and finished all the previous games in the creeper world franchise, this looks like another masterpiece. who would have thought there'd be a 6th masterpiece? is that even possible?
Because he essentially just remade the same game all those times? The first game is hardly different from this one, in fact it's almost back to how the first game played, with of course the house hold name of the scenarios having massive upfront difficulty that just fizzles out very quickly.
This looks absolutely brilliant! After CW4's fantastic move to 3D, i never expected a move back to something more akin to CW2. Can't wait for it! Take your time and have fun making it!
It is kind of like taking inspiration from CW2 and Particle Fleet. Since this is in early development still I look forward to what all he comes up with for the finished product. :)
It's absolutely crazy how you just keep finding new ways to innovate and take advantage of the niche you've built for yourself. Absolutely stellar work as ever my friend, keep up the great work! I look forward to playing this as soon as it's released.
As someone who considers Creeper World 2 to be a unique masterpiece, let me just say thank you for going back to 2D vertical scrolling side-view action!
It's really cool seeing ships turn into particles/sand instead of just sliding over. Hope that makes it into final! Anyway looks like another fun game to fenagle with, your endeavors have been inspiring for us this past decade.
I'm assuming there's a story reason why they're doing that. And I wonder if that'll make some unique mechanics, like being able to move units through tunnels that would be otherwise too small to fit them.
I agree, the way that the ships transport themselves is pretty awesome to look at. It is pretty interesting how the particles make it look like the ship is still there but distorted in appearance while it moves. I imagine that the final version will have touched up textures to look even more awesome after the base of the game is more solid
Your projects always seem to be the drawn from the same simple formula, but every new release has a fresh twist on that formula the keeps it new and fun compared to what came before. Anticipated Creeper World 3 and 4 on their original releases, and will likely enjoy this one too. Keep up the amazing work.
Damn, looks pretty cool. I didn't expect to see a video on the next game so soon, but like you said it's pre-alpha. Love the style, and the return to the side-view that was in CW2, but improved in every way. It is interesting thinking about it, but I remember many years ago following the blog posts on the website before CW2 released, yet here I am watching this video. That felt like a life-time ago. I first played CW1 around the time I played Harvest Massive Encounter, if anyone remembers that. I hope the development goes well, I'll for sure keep this on my radar.
I'll admit, while the flat RTS-style map is what originally got me into CW, my favorite in the series is the top-down style of CW2. I love seeing a return to this :D
oh wow! I've loved every instance of Creeper World so far but I did have a soft spot for the departure of mechanics with 2. With the pixel renderer this looks awesome!
I am very excited for this newest installment. The ship idea from Particle Fleet combined with Creeper World sounds like it would be clunky but it looks like it works well in this MVP.
I enjoy that you are still making games based around creeper, I remember playing Creeper World on a flash site over a decade ago and it's cool that this universe is still being expanded upon
Hype is real! Your games has the most hours in my steam list. Thank you for your work. And big thank you for your fans and modders out there, who makes all custom maps.
I'm so happy you're going back to 2D! I was super excited for 3D before CW4 came out, but once I played it it just didn't feel right. Hard to explain. But this, I'm getting excited all over again!
a mix of cw2 and particle fleet with a touch of noita looks extremely cool so far (also the graphics and physics seem rather complicated for a pre-alpha that's supposedly only been engine optimisations so far, you sure this isn't going to release next week?)
@@Meehuuu I didn't think of that when I first saw the video, but now that you have mentioned it I agree, especially the way that the ship exploded when damaged towards the end. In addition to the pixel style art and floating landscape that ignores there is nothing to support it (although the dev seemed to indicate that the land would fall if its support structure is removed later on in development; or at least that is what I interpreted.
@@andrewjones9547 A pixel-physics based spellcasting game. Think of Liero but you can craft and customise weapons by combining different effects and modifiers.
The engine looks super friggin solid and im pretty happy to see Creeper World going into a more dynamic new direction. hopefully the sprites get some R&R to fit more with the style of the level (which looks great BTW)
Looks fascinating as usual... love the colors and general look of it, superficially. The mechanics do sound very promising, I'm very excited to hear more about it in the coming months
Looks awesome. I've been following Creeper World since the first game in like 2009. Always love seeing a new iteration come out. Definitely one of my comfort games, something I can play and chill to. I'm usually the kind of player who overdoes it, really farms up and crushes the creeper. I find it deeply satisfying and each game renews that feeling. Can't wait for this next version!
even for early alpha this has me excited, i can already imagine the creeper digging out terrain to cause some of those items to fall deeper into creeper controlled area (it looked like the items have physics at 4:35 the item on the right falls over) looking forward to seeing more about this in the future.
This might actually be my most favorite game reveal this year apart from the LotR dwarven survival game, thank you for working on this, it's exciting! I come back to your guys often for a few week periods every now and then, they're super therapeutic to play. XD
Man ive been waiting for some extra cash to try your newer games and you just keep adding more that i want to play! Love to see you still creating, it'd be cool to see different ships move in different ways like spitting up or taking alternate routes. Cant wait for this to come out! 💘
These ship designs feel like they would be perfectly primed for having a GUI in game for designing ships for use in maps(With costs, weight limits, etc). Or maybe something like every chassis has a number of hardpoints that you can fill with stuff to suit the task. Want a big ship(5 or so slots) to be a battle barge? 2 missiles, 3 lasers. Use it as a terraformer? 4 mining beams and maybe a laser for self defense. That kinda deal. Very exciting to see you at it once more!
God this franchise has just been my entire life XD Great work. As Always. Kind of reached a point where your stuff being really really good is just the norm haha
The CW games have been my go to game to pass time, relax, or something to passively enjoy while partaking virtual meetings while working from home. The main games and mechanics are fantastic, and the support and community help make it excel and continue to be long lasting. I’m super excited by this announcement. I really loved CW2 and this definitely evokes a lot of the same feels from that. Always happy to see what you have in store for us Virgil, and I’m super thrilled to have gotten a little early Christmas magic with this announcement!! 💙💙
Noita Creeper! Cool. Can't wait for the immersive mobile version that makes creeper appear on objects in your house so you can fight it, coming next year!!
I'm loving this Pre-Alpha. Looking forward to the end result; however far into the future that is. Also, I think I saw a bug with the Creeper at 6:40. When the Lathe Ship blows up, it appears some Creeper to the right of it got thrusted into the land and just shunted straight up through it. Don't know if you noticed. I'm just trying to be helpful, if I can. ;-)
Creeper World never disappoints, every game has been great and this looks like it will continue the trend! Can't wait to start seeing more about this game as development continues! Let us know when we can throw money at you for it!!!
This looks so good and satifying! Reminds me a little bit back to Particle Fleet. Honestly the particle fleet sound track has lived rent free in my brain ever since it came out.
I absolutely love your games! Been playing CW for years now. Ships are cool, but I hope we will see some towers as well!!! Also, nice title for the video.
Oh Wow! I was not expecting to see this today. I'm super excited to see how this physics sandbox progresses in the coming development videos. Thank you for the early preview 👍
Looks good already! Hope the development and creation of it will be fun for you and go smoothly. Am looking forward to the final result sometime in the future.
What an amazing Christmas present. So awesome to have you back with a new game. Looks a lot like Noita. Can't wait to play it and looking forward to more updates.
@knucracker I've been following you since creeper world 2 in the flash days, I have been happy and proud to watch the evolution of the creep thus far. I'm happy to watch as it spreads into other genres 😀
Merry christmas. This reminds me heavily of Noita, which also has a bunch of physics stuff. I hope you can make more mechanics that work with this, for example "Pixxilium" you called it. Maybe something with anti-gravity that "flies up" when you release it, like a gas. Other than that, I love the pixelation. I believe with CW4 it has gotten away too far from what CW1 was that many fell in love with. I'm glad you add another "CW2 style" game, like it's no longer top-down but from the side again. REALLY got me hyped now, what a great christmas present, TYSM! :)
When I was a kid, I used to play a falling sand\falling elements flash game all the time. This looks like a really fun exploration of that pixel physics concept in a game. Thanks for sharing
This looks great! I love particle simulators like the old Powder Game and Noita. I hope this engine also includes lots of particle interactions that make things dynamic and interesting. I also like how ships move by sort of warping themselves particle-by-particle into a new position. Very clever and looks visually stunning!
this already looks quite fun. can't wait for the eventual release! the whole creeper world series is among my favorite games and i think this one will be no different. i just hope there will be the familiar tower defense aspects as well. right now it looks more like creeper world 2 mixed with the Particle Fleet game . while i did enjoy that game too, the tower defense aspect was too lacking for my taste. well, you could consider the ships as mobile towers, but the feeling was just too different. probably because of the strict fleet limits which ruined my favorite playstil turtle-and-overrun. but back to what you showed in the video. i like the destructable terrain idea, though i really hope you will add a way to repair/respawn land, because that was the most frustrating part of creeper world 2. once you excavated something you could not get the ground back and i had to restart quite a few maps because i could not sustain expansion because i had not enough suitable places to place structures, because i had to dig up a lot to be able to keep the creep at bay. well, this concept display version of the game seems to already deal with most issues i had with CW2, so well done already!
