This is late but, the story apparently is that there is a tenant with a mental illness or disability who lives at the apartment complex. He was on welfare and treated poorly by all of the other tenants, and the landlord was charging him about $300 more for his apartment than everyone else. All of this being a commentary on how mental health & people with disabilities are treated in Japan (since the game is Japanese). There's notes around where you find out the story, the first being in the trash dumpster where the cat is, which you can open by giving the cat some cat food. Then while searching for the baby you can find the tenant's dog who you give the water bottle to you get another note that explains more. Not sure about the other endings but at least that's some of the story behind the building and the creepy things happening!
