This is also interesting in that Calypso doesn't seem to be twisting most of the wishes this time to be entirely different than what was meant, and it's just...people being stupid before/after the fact, including himself in Needles' ending. It's a good twist on the expected result by now; he doesn't need to corrupt the wishes to have people suffer. His personality also changed to be a lot more mellow after TM2; it's good character development.

My assumption with Warthog's ending was that Calypso was punishing his hubris for thinking he could just Rambo his way through.

I think the reason why all endings are Canon in each game is because let's say, I only play one character and really like them, I could start from one going forward to finish that characters story and I can really get invested in just that character, if I don't care for the other characters then I can just be happy for my characters saga. This gives the player freedom of choice to like who they like without having to play a "canon" winner to view the "canon" story.

Seems Calypso has something of a fondness for Mr.Grimm. He got his wish exactly as intended here and in a previous twisted metal. However he bungled things up himself each time.

Looks like Mr Grimm had it coming. Feasting of souls for years made him quite full of sins. But when he rejoiced, he got reckless and a truck kills him...in a cruel twist of punishment for his heinous soul to be collected.

In the Dark Tooth's case. I think Marcus and Needles were separated by the power that Calypso gave to the Dark Tower, thus making them both pilot the two vans at the base of the tower. Consequently, separating them in terms of body and soul.

Honestly I really do like how Sweet Tooth sound in this game. Sure he sounds way too "chill" for being a psychopathic murderous clown, but I feel that very laidback tone of his makes him even more terrifying lol

TMHO's got the best Calypso for the voice actor alone All it takes is him saying "Granted" than laughing right after

Synopsis on the 989 studios TM games (3 and 4): - TM3 is a pretty jank game but still is fun if you like car combat games as a whole. The main fun comes from using some of the more broken aspects like rear fire. Thumper is a beast in this game and Club Kid's special attack is busted. Also environmental attacks are the best in this game. - TM4 is a more realized version of this unusual direction. A more unique theme, lots of weapons to play with, and some more fun weapons. Orbital and Mr. Zombie are the ones you'll want to try out on the first run

I think out of all the endings in this game, I like Needles’s the most. Talk about turning the tables of being careful what you wish for

I'm amazed by many things here: The lack of guards for Cousin Eddy How Gene's speech impediment didn't absolutely demolish his wish The utter clownery that happened for the cops' ending, Jamie won twisted metal and rescued her idiot brother only for him to give no fucks and act like a literal psycho (don't get me started on him saying "he'll twist our words" right before literally saying "I wish") And most of all what the fuck happened in Krista's ending, it was about to be the single best wish in the franchise and Calypso either bends the rules or we get Marcus' TM2 ending with a new coat of paint?

Surprised this is only the second time you've covered Twisted Metal in CBE, there's tons of endings that could keep you up at night. I'd love to see videos about the endings in the first game (including the scrapped FMV cutscenes) and Black.

I'm just viewing the video yet, but I need to say this: thanks, Whoisthisgit, for giving us a chance to experience, along with your precise commentary, so many games we probably would not experience in any other way, be it for lack of the consoles, lack of time, etc. As a passionate gamer, I enjoy and value your amazing job.

To perhaps explain why Jamie wanted to keep Calyspo alive... I have a theory. Calyspo has the ability to grant any wish. Therefore, if he was kept alive, they could wish for everyone that was destroyed or killed by Twisted Metal to be brought back to life, alive and well. She showed she was already able to predict how he could twist thins and would've been smart enough to not have it directly backfire. And once all the damage TM caused is reverted, you could just capture and put Calyspo on trial. It would be the ultimate moral victory over Calyspo, which I believe was Jamie's wish.

The ones that seem to be the canon winners from TM2 are Outlaw, Axel, and Marcus Kane the reason there's at least three winners is because the Twisted Metal Tournament is held yearly, meaning that three more Twisted Metal Tournaments took place after the events of Twisted Metal 2 and three more people got their wishes from winning the Following Tournaments after Outlaw won.

So one thing to point out about Marcus Kane: His character is essentially a meta deconstruction of the relationship between player and player character

13:41 I've never played a Twisted Metal game, but Marcus Kane could have DID (dissociative identity disorder) which changes his body makeup to such a degree that, once Needles, he changes type completely. As far as I know, though, there is no documented medical case of such an intense change happening. The closest I could find in FICTION would be Diavolo from JJBA.

On Warthog's ending, Git, you have to understand that the world isn't always black and white. So it feels to me that some people just don't want to be saved or taken away from a life they have ever known or accostumed to be a part of, such as those two kids that shot him down. The poor guy found this out the hard way, to his eternal regret. Life sucks sometimes, man. :P

Hold on, Hold on. I absolutely LOVED Twisted Metal III as a kid. Granted, our dad would always turn on Godmode before handing us the controller. My experience of Twisted Metal IV was in the form of a demo, and all I remember was Rob Zombie's Dragula being featured in the game.

I mean most of them kind of deserve it but... yeah. After watching the Sweet Tooth vs. Joker Death Battle I really wanted another TM game where Joker and his Joker-Mobile was a hidden character, perhaps the lunatic who is twisted enough to finally put one over on Calypso?

Mr. Grimm being 26 years old is probably his human form's age BTW the fact that Calypso chose a random child to turn into a reaper of soul is kinda F-ed up, but since it's Calypso, pretty understandable

I think the whole Marcus/Needles Kane being in the same place thing is just Calypso doing his usual fuckery. He's got incredible supernatural powers, making someone's two alter-egos appear at once seems almost tame compared to other things he can do. I also think the Outlaw ending is the usual sort of craptastic psychobullshit writing that's all too familiar. Jamie having the sudden 'visions' = Hollywood PTSD = "oh no I must be the contractually obligated emotional woman showing weakness at precisely the most inopportune moment". It makes no logical sense and exists purely to give Calypso plot armor for no particular reason because he doesn't necessarily have it with the other endings. It's arguably the worst ending in the game from a quality standpoint.

I love Shepard's ending a lot. I know that in some endings, the cop actually properly arrests the mastermind, but it looks like that one almost was tempted to take Calypso up on his offer. But he resists the temptation yet Calypso hints that it won't be the end of it. Oh boy I'd have loved even more to see where he was going with that, but it's fine; what we got was really interesting.

Mortimer's ending is funny, mostly because him and Calypso look like brothers, even twins. I am concerned that he turned a child into the Reaper with Mr.Grimm.

You can say that Head-on is the true 3, but you've jumped over the other follow-up, Twisted Metal Black, which was also setup as a true sequel (with a tone change) and is from David Jaffe.

3:57 IIRC, each ending in Head-On acts as if that character's ending from 2 is the canon one. Kind of a continuation from that single timeline, more than a mixture of different timelines. Dunno what the case is for any new characters though, but they probably didn't come from any extinction event endings some of the ones in 2.

Hey whoisthisgit, I would think that Zero Time Dilemma might creep you out with the different ways it can end if you ever play that game. If you ever do play that game then, I think I would like to see you do Zero Time Dilemma for a Creepy Bad Endings episode. Same thing for Kirby Mass Attack. Most Kirby game over screens aren't too bleak, but that one might get under your skin if you ever play and see it.

I saw online a pretty decent alternative ending to Outlaw They wish for an end to the Twisted Metal tournament, and Calypso…agrees? He says that it was getting old, then it cuts forward 1 year and we get the Twist. Calypso announces the tournament is back. But under the name of High Octane(a demo name for the original Twisted Metal from 1995) He twists the "No Twisted Metal" into "no more use of the Twisted Metal name for the contest"

0:22 Well, if you want one positive(?) thing, the Sweet Tooth on the TM3 cover kind of reminds me of Lub Lub. Especially the glazed look in his yellow eyes. Anyways, all I remember about Head-On is that I was pretty bad at it compared to 2. I think I only ever beat the campaign on 2 characters, and even then I was cutting it close by the end. This was the console port of it, so maybe it was different on the PSP original.

Wait, Mortimer died when he was only 37? That's so sad! Also, I'm pretty sure creatures managed to consume most of Amanda's rotting flesh, so she doesn't smell that bad... she's only a skeleton. Lastly, is it too far fetched to consider Calypso a Chaotic Neutral character? Or at least, more Chaotic than Evil. His backstory isn't very different from Spawn's, or even Eric Draven's. They all obtained Hellish powers after a horrific incident. However, while two use their powers to do good (they're still Chaotic though, none of the moral code guys like Batman have), Calypso is just a spiteful man taking revenge on luckier people.

Mortimers ending may not necessarily be as good as ending as it first seems. Calpyso's job is to send souls to hell through his contest. Maybe he knew that Mortimer was destined to go to hell after he went to sleep. Maybe I am overthinking it though.

I feel like if Calypso wanted to actually screw Shadow over he coulda just dug him up again later. Nothing stopping him from going back on a wish he's granted (See Spectre's lost TM1 ending). I guess he thought scaring that kid on the plane was so funny that in the end he forgave him? Also, with Crimson Fury: I think it's quite clever, the twist is you might expect a twist where there is none, as well as for Calypso to be unassailable given his "ultimate power". Perhaps the Sweet Tooth ending, Cousin Eddy's ending, as well as Crimson Fury's implies that in this timeline, his powers are conditional to the tournament. He couldn't refuse Sweet Tooth or Cousin Eddy (though that may have been under duress), and despite armed guards as well as his powers, he surrendered to the FBI without a fight once surrounded. It's a shame that these games played with continuity like a kitten with a ball of yarn, I think it's quite intriguing to think of Calypso as playing a high stakes bluff of his own, and ultimately possibly being just a mad master of ceremonies for a grander scheme in the end.

I remember being 15 and first discovering the creepy bad endings series (I think I was looking for the ones from the Oddworld series after a Caddicarus episode), which definitely solidified a lifelong love affair with bad endings. Now I'm 25 and even 10 years later, you're still putting out amazing little guided tours that are both compact and detailed like it's no sweat. My hat is off to you, sir. I hope you know that the things you create mean a lot to a lot of people, including me.

I know I am in the minority, but I liked Twisted Metal 4. Then again majority of the time I don't care what the general opinion is.

Honestly Head-On has, in my humble opinion, the best collection of endings in the series. And with the exceptions of 2 and Black, it's not even close. Like, it's one thing to have around 50-60% of great endings, but here every ending is enjoyable in its own way. Even some of the weaker ones, like Mr. Slamm, Grasshopper and Outlaw. Also, Tower Tooth can actually be playable in Free Play of the PS2 version of Head-On, even if for a single map: Rome.

I think the reason Needles and Marcus are different heights and weights is because Marcus didn’t always exist to my knowledge, so in terms of Twisted Metal…Needles came before Marcus in character creation
