So Wade in preparation for purchasing a ck1 I am interested in getting a curved shaft paddle. In the werner line I’m looking at the powerhouse. My question is what length would you recommend. I have only used 1 paddle in the past and that was the bending branches angler pro and it was a 240cm. Any advice on this topic would be great and if you recommend a different curved paddle let me know. Thanks in advance.
well, if you are paddling these types of kayaks, you want something at least 220 and none of the whitewater paddles go past 205cm and all the true fishing only paddles are all straight shaft, so my suggestion is something in the touring line up and the one that I have used in the past and liked a lot is the Werner Cyprus Carbon Kayak Paddle Bent Shaft it has a big powerful blade like the powerhouse and its 2 piece and has adjustable feathering here is a link to one below amzn.to/3dshHHX

Took my CK1 from the river end into some serious waves in Lake Michigan out Ludington MI, was a blast, rolled the boat a couple times, but I was impressed with what this boat could crash through. Very comfy and capable boat, this is my "forever" boat. I've had it for several weeks and did the crazy waves, lots of regular rivers, two quiet lakes, just couldn't be happier with it.
Thanks for putting it through its paces. Got mine earlier this week, just waiting for the water levels and flow rates to get down to normal so I can get out there! Really appreciate the tips on rigging, too.

Dude thanks for the awesome reviews you are sharing with us on the ck1. Waiting on getting mine. This is honestly the perfect kayak for my needs. Wanted something that was a kayak first and not a dedicated fishjnh platform...ya know tracks and moves well but then having the ability to fish with and have space for some camping gear or even using it as a throw and go for a day. Checks all the boxes and you don't really trade in features between bigger vs smaller kayaks. It's wide and stable enough to stand up in, rides over the water instead of punching through it but also is not too long not too short and still light. Perfect kayak if you ask me. Was going to get this green but decided to go with nor'easter blue 🔥🔥🙌

Great video, this helps me to decide on this boat over other models. Being in Alabama, I fish lots of creeks and in the chattahoochie a lot. I was debating on the bonafide but I like the simple nature or this boat.
I have been trying to get my hands on a RVR for a on water comparison the CK1 is a river running machine the Shoalie close second the RVR looks to me more slow moving and lake oriented then closer to boats like the Coosa X and Shoalie ck1 but that’s my first take
I have had mine down the backyard river a few times now and really like it for that and was what I added it for. We’ve got a nice class II+ section to play in. Was taking a LT at high flows and that works good but it’s definitely a lot more boat to turn quickly in moving water. It still works great. Other than the CK1 being quite a bit more nimble that I truly appreciate in the river is the sealed hull. The LT will take a bit of water on if waves are crashing over the bow or you ride it down rapids upside down HAHA! Great video and entertaining to see what a great paddler can do with it. Looking forward to the next one
@@WadeHarrison I would love a LT video! It was just the best thing I currently had to run the river so I just run what I brung and grew into it pretty well. The CK1 works a lot better for me for me there but I definitely prefer that LT for fishing our big open lakes with wake boats and jet skis. I hunted hard for a Bonafide ex123 and could never get one out here. Would love to see that ck1 on that stretch you did the video of the ex123.

Great review. I got mine a week ago & took it out Saturday. Struggled a bit with a strong headwind but otherwise it handled great. I hit a few rapids & cut right thru them
Glad I watched this vid. In Florida the winds come up, the storms move in very quick, the waves begin and the channel currents set in. That kind of mix in like a riverway so this vid helps me with my purchasing decisions. I know to get to shorelines ASAP but having that control level doing it is the 🔑 KEYS to safely getting there!
I got a light tackle last year and it performs much the same but I don't like that open front hatch with a lid if this ck1 would of been on the market a year ago it would of been my choice. Thanks for the awesome review
Stoked Wade! I need a new kayak and have been patient. I was already sold on a diff crescent THEN the CK1 came out. Glad I waited. Your review is great and exactly what I need to see. Florida here so skinny water, ocean river aka ICW & ocean itself this boat will work. I rarely go out if the wind is way up so not an issue. I'd like to experiment more with a SUP paddle and of course poling. I reallly dig poling my 14 ft canoe. As far as taking this to moving water class 1 & 2 you nailed it for me. I didn't wanna buy a 'swim beside' LMAO. thanks again yes I subscribed!!!!!!!
Woah woah woah, where did that cup holder come from! I need one. Other than that, amazing boat and amazing review. This one really made me consider it over the LT. I couldn’t sacrifice the storage space though, I like to camp off the river a lot.
I still think a video with this thing in harder water than it was designed for all swamped out would be really cool. I’d probably use float bags or dry bags in the tank wells to displace water but think this little boat is a beast on class II rivers. Maybe next summer😂 I have a solid class III run close I just haven’t had the balls to try
Just picked one up in the same color. Lure 13.5 wasn't cutting it for the river and I was sick and tired of hauling it around. Hoping this ck 1 solves my problems.

@@WadeHarrison well the verdict is in. It's slower than a snail, turns on a dime and is very stable. All In all thinking 33inches would have been a better sweet spot for this boat. But I love it either way. And of course being able to toss it up on the j racks by myself makes it alot easier to get the motivation to head out.
Either a YakAttack side mount or the through hull I never ran one personally but will be putting a small one on my Shoalie at some point and probably going to try the through hull setup
Seriously considering this kayak. It’s between this or the old town topwater/sportsman 106. Wish they had a skid plate on the ck1. I think that would seal the deal for me.
Oh I have gave them a hard time about something as trivial as a skid plate trust me lol I have paddled the Top waters briefly and they are good also one to look at is the Native Falcon

You won one wow that’s awesome. And no I have not done anything on how to do that. But I heard crescent has some modified seat straps available now and the hook I added in the bungee is available from Yakattack
In the whitewater world, I believe those are called 'holes' that you ride, and not eddy's. An eddy is more like a very calm spot where you put in or take out, or safely sit to scout what's ahead.
Thank you for feedback I most likely misspoke I do that a lot when just winging it. But if you have watched any other of my videos on my channel think you will see I'm extremally well versed in the whitewater world but have misspoke few times while doing these on water reviews...
I really like cresent boats except for the seats. Those straps on the bottom and no ability to recline or lower the base, but what you do here was impressive.
thanks for the compliments and yeah the seats are decent but I agree could use some improvement but feel for the price they are very comparable to other boats in this space
@@josefreynolds1 you can add a cushion to the bottom and I run a lumber support and it’s pretty much perfect for Me. But the seats that are in the boats are designed to fit but maybe could retro fit something but I would not recommend it. Cheap seat pad will make a world of difference trust me…
I already want to see a comparison with the new Primo and it looked like the primo will be really solid in shallow water. Ck1 a little better setup all around without the high low seat but slightly different hull designs. I like how the ck1 handles when the water is up in my backyard class II but at low flows it just doesn’t draft quite shallow as other boats in the quiver.

This is the type of water I've fished for many years in an Aire Lynx, which is awesome in the Class 3 stuff but obviously slower and less good tracking on frog water. That kyak doesn't look like it has enough rocker for big standing waves, would you run a 3 in it? Good review.
Upon viewing again, it Has to be .I recognized the island in the middle where you hit the "first real rapid"..we used to stop at that island when we'd tube down there! Good stuff!!!

I also like the looks and idea of the nucanoe flint..but, being 6'2 250, I just don't know that the flint would be ideal for me. I could go up to the f12 or unlimited..but feel like for river tasks..like the green and up in Cherokee...I just feel like maybe the ck1 might fit the bill better. Especially after having seen you handle it through these rapids!

I kayak fish on moving rivers and creeks. I really want to become skilled at paddling. How does one go about learning better paddle technique when you don’t know anyone to learn from?
RU-vid and practice buddy best way each time you get out just try your beat to keep your form clean and you will slowly get better yes it does help going with people that know but there’s a lot of videos out there now I’m going to try to do more
If you don't mind me asking how much do you weigh? Im 255 lbs and was wondering if Im too heavy for this boat. I won't have any gear just me and the paddle.
@@WadeHarrison Thanks Wade for info. I just watched your video of you going down the Ocoee River on the EX123. Would the Cresent CK1 or the EX123 be better for rivers like the Hiwassee river. That river would be the most challenging river we run.
@@WadeHarrison yeah I think so to, she loves her UL in flat water, but any time we get into a moving water situation with anything that resembles rocks or light rapids she takes the seat out, sits flat in the bottom, and I can tell she’s really nervous, I think the stability of the CK1 would be a huge confidence boost
I would highly recommend not trying that because it will have a lot of load on it and the ones that do it like native Bonafide use molded in inserts in the hull not screw in type tracs
I have a Ultra lite. I have been experimenting load outs in prep for a upcoming New River trip. Dumped twice. I'm 5' 6" 160 lbs. a cooler with beverages n ice, plano (5 3600) bag full of tackle 2 rods. well below the stated weight cap. The hull performs awesome even with cargo but the boat becomes top heavy. Once the edge dips its swimming time...lol Its my unprofessional opinion that any gear needs stored low and secured to not slide to any side. (which would limit what you could carry along) Or your going in the drink! I suspect the ck to react the same because of the similar hull design. I like the yak don't get me wrong but am a lil disappointed about its carrying capacity and a lil worried about some sections i fish. Ill play it safe and go lite i suppose. Tracks better and paddles faster than my old tarpon 120 but cant bring as much along.
@@WadeHarrison oops sorry I should have specified, the Broad River near Danielsville, Ga!! Already had it down the Chattahoochee and Toccoa Rivers and absolutely loving how it handles in the currents. I definitely agree that it locks into the that current flow and tracks so well!
I might do a video on that at some point it changes on the type of water I'm paddling but mostly whitewater its got some basic first aid stuff some boat repair stuff fire starter headlamp ect snacks extra cam batteries mounts that's almost always in there but will ad more stuff here and there
How is the cover in the front? Do you have issues with hooks getting stuck in it. I had a old coosa and it had the cloth handle and I would get hooks in it once in a while. Just wondering how this one would be with all that material. Thanks great video and review
It’s made of a vinyl and the bungee is tucked away and the front handle is plastic so no issues with treble hooks snagging in it I know exactly what your saying with hooks snags up there

I loved this video! Really want that boat. I rarely find myself in above class 1 rapids. 2 at the most. I've never used a helmet but I'm thinking about it. I've always cared more about the sun exposure and used a big straw hat. Do you pop the helmet on for rapids and then switch back? Thanks.
I do use it in some rapids not really needed a lot of times because usually so deep but if it’s shallow fast moving rapids and your solo not a bad idea to put one on before those it’s pretty easy to fall out head first into a rock
It’s called the Werner Hooked adjustable 240-260cm i run it at 45degree 240cm when paddling the ck1 if paddling the bigger platform fishing boats with high seats like the LT with seat raising or a bonafide SS107 in high positions I go 0 degrees 260cm
@@WadeHarrison Nice! Yea I'm looking at a couple Werner paddles. Found a deal on a Werner Shuna adjustable 240-260 but not sure about the wider paddle. I don't think I'm a high angle paddler....but it looks like a good deal.
@@WadeHarrison Have you experienced a difference in the wider paddles vs something like a camano? You hear so many opinions. Advice I heard was to view the size paddle as gears in a bike but that the wider paddles like a Shuna You also want to go a little shorter in length. So if you prefer a 240 camano typically you wanna go shorter if you use a Shuna paddle....idk just another perspective that is causing some confusion. I get the gear comparison it's just the length difference that confuses me.
@@zero-ol2nt it’s a faster stroke rate with thinner paddle blade in whitewater I want a big wide powerful blade because it’s more stroke placements and power moves but in lake/easy going currents it fine to have the narrow blade. And having adjustable length for fishing I highly recommend because of the high low seating options in so many fishing kayaks
