Crescent Ultralite Kayak Overview 

I am at the very top end of what I feel weight wise is appropriate for this boat but I love it so much it always gets a lot of use. In the late summer when the backyard river flows are low I use it exclusively. It doesn’t drain well enough for me to run continuous rapids at higher flows but it’s sooo fun in the right conditions or any flat water! Been spending a lot of time it this year even though I have been wanting to take some other boats out. It deserves more love for sure especially among smaller paddlers. My secret weapon

What cart system did you use to bring it to the water?

Read there is an add-on higher seat option for some Creacents. Would that work with this?

Curious why you chose this over CK1. I know that it is cheaper and 10 pounds lighter which are definitely two major considerations.Curious If you tried CK1 as well

Great vid for an awesome lil Yak....but Just want to give a heads up to newer yakers (i wouldn't recommend this yak to new yakers) from a river Yakfisher. Ive dumped more in this yak in my first season then in 18 years of yak fishn. Most of it was kinda my fault and kinda the fault of this yaks hull. When i took it out the first time i loaded it like my main yak which is a older tarpon 120. I knew this would be on the extreme for the UL but was planning on testing handling under heavy load. Im 5' 6" 150ish so i figured i was still under max weight. I paddled to a island in the stream i was fishing to beach. Something ive done dozens of time at this exact location. paddling up current to hit bank and hop out quick. well a combination of swift current, the heavy keel, a higher center of gravity because my load was tall and i didnt secure the seat, cooler, tackle crate caused an immediate turtle. Lesson learned ...keep weight low to deck and secure load so as to not slide to one side. Next outing my rear rods got tangled in overhanging branches. I was twisting around dealing with it and because of the small amount of initial stability the yak tipped enough to the side to make the seat tip a lil which caused a swim. A scenario like this happens a couple more times. lesson learned .. secure seat Dont get me wrong i love this yak. The weight and size is perfect for car topping and small streams. I love the open deck. The mighty mounts are in the perfect place for my Stealth rod holders. But there are some caveats. The hull design that allows me to paddle this as fast or faster up stream than my Tarpon 120, also makes it harder to ferry across heavy current fishing shoals. Also don't try to quarter along a bank or boulder because the nose will push aside and tip u up on the side of the yak. One time i was trying to beach against a mud bank enough to hold me still while i retied and the yak pushed to the side instead of up in the mud and caused my pole to smash against a tree...luckily just some bent eyes as a result. Handling in rapids don't feel as responsive as my old yak as well. Which makes doing the boulder slalom in New River rapids a lil sketchy...lol Some of the UL quirks can be mitigated by lowering your carry weight and keeping everything as close to the deck as possible. But i found id be carrying less than my sister in her tarpon 100 before it made a noticeable difference. Ive had this yak on everything from lil creeks to the new river. I love it. But newbies would probably be better off with something else. Really wish Crescent would make a 10 foot Shoalie. less aggressive keel and more fishing features would be welcome.

Geeez… I have this boat. My god I can’t stay in the thing. I’ve been dumped in flat water, slow moving water. I took 1 stroke and bumped into an unseen rock and dumped everything. Sitting in still shallow water I barely reached down to pick up a rock and was dumped. Slow Moving water and I was pinned against a boulder and was dumped. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I have a wilderness tarpon and fish out of it and never fallen out. I cannot stay in the crescent. 😂 I would never paddle in the crescent in colder weather. I know it’s my poor skill level but still. I mean I can’t do a headstand on the ground so…
