That a nice setup. I'm getting a LiteTackle II & the 2 mods I like the most are the rod holders which I'll try & your pontoon system. Great video presentation
Hello again! I was finally able to launch my LT this morning, which turned out to be a discouraging launch. First a little background- I'm a big paddler at 375. My previous kayak experience is in the Nucanoe Frontier 12, which has loads of primary stability. I drift with the wind sideways to waves jigging with no issues. The downside- she's a monster to paddle. Enter my decision to purchase the LT: I wanted a better paddling kayak. Given the LT's hull design v. The Frontier, plus vids and reviews, I knew the primary stability would be much less. However, I thought I'd be able to adjust to the "tippyness" of the LT. This morning a swell (big lake) kicked up at first I was ok. Then the swell height increased and the rollers hit my kayak more frequently. The LT was rocking and rolling, which tripped me out...I panicked, which I've never done in my kayaking, canoeing, boating, experience. I fled for shore. I'm super disappointed that I panicked like that, but at least I realized my lack of composure and got off the water. My brother was out with me, so we were playing it safe. When the LT was rolling I felt like I had zero control over the kayak's movement in terms of balance, and that any moment I was going to get dumped. I don't know how I'm going to get comfortable with that. My first question- any advice on adjusting to a kayak with low primary stability. Now onto outriggers. I have large outriggers that I purchased for the Frontier, but they weren't needed: www.islandhopperoutboards.com/kayak-outriggers.html Scroll down to the "super jumbo size" to see what I have. It's aluminum tubing that insets into a, what I think is, a flag pole holder, which is adjustable. The Frontier has long gear tracks that run along the deck. I put a 1x6 board across the gear tracks and tightened it in place, forming a cross beam. I bolted the flag pole holders to the cross beam, into which the aluminum tubing inserts. I'm trying to figure out to mount a cross beam in the LT using the gear tracks along the rear tank well. It looks like the these tracks aren't perfectly level, laterally. I wonder whether I can use then to mount a flat board 🤔. Any ideas? I love your design, but with my weight and the beefyness of these floats, I'm concerned about the strength of the pvc. Plus, I'm not sure how to mount these floats onto the end of the smaller dia. PVC tubing that inserts into the larger dia. Tube. Thanks for reading this and for any insight 🙏
I'm only 175.........so I can not compare your experience with it. I do not paddle long distances....that's where my trolling motor comes in. It adds about 90 lbs to my load. Also I stand up 90% when I paddle and use a long canoe paddle because a typical kayak paddle is rough on my bad shoulder.
I like this Kayak! I have the nice but heavy Lure 11.5 and I will defiantly be looking at adding this Kayak also to use on my fishing RU-vid channel YakAngling for those long pulls in.
Awesome modifications on your Kayak. Great video presentation. I may use some of your ideas for my ROBOYAK/KAYAK Cruiser/Angler model C10 specially the rod holders. I used PVC pipes as well and they're great for connecting pieces together.
Just a thought, a bungee across the top of your padded rod bar in front of you could clamp the rods down If you wanted to lay them in transit, especially helpful if you are paddling under vegetation...
Thanks.....Now that the weathers is cooling down in FL...........I will be hitting some places where I have to snake through mangrove tunnels, so I will keep that in mind.
