I feel lucky because i am the only cretan person I visited all the best 400 beaches of Crete and hundreds villages lot of gorges and archeological places. I know everything in Crete
Hi Kimberlyterry! I'm from the U.S. as well (Maryland), currently living on the Costa del Sol of Spain but going to be spending a week on Crete next May. Hoping to convince my Husband to relocate to Chania area for my forever home. If you don't mind me asking, how long have you lived in Chania and what made you decide to choose the Greek Island of Kreta in general?
Crete with the vendetta between family, the violence, killing etc... In 2004-2005 we did live in Provarma/ Stilos. But to be honest: everything is better than the USA
Been to Crete a good many times I love it! All the Greek islands are amazing. Lovely people great food, amazing hospitality and history obviously. I could say more but you get the idea.
Apart from the Wine Region (which I wasn't interested in), I went to the beaches in the video and I agree that Balos Beach is amazing and I agree that Chania is more picturesque than Heraklion. I actually loved Crete a lot
It’s one of our favorite spots now too! So much fun adventure to be had there and the people are so friendly. Thanks for watching the video!! Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Elafonisi beach has pink sand but it gets less and less as summer progresses . You need to get there early in the summer to see it . Also there are certain spots where you can see it and not through the whole beach . This has to do with the currents but also because of the tourists that pick up the sand . This pink sand is actually little pieces from broken sea shells and it takes time to reproduce .
I went to Faedra beach resort. Its a great hotel, walking distance from Agios Nikolaos. We explored mountains with a rented suzuki jimny and found and amazing taverna. The hotel is amazing, the staff talked to us and gave herbs when we were leaving. We visited almost everything and i loved it.😊 we walked to agios nikolaos as well
My mother and father are from Κρήτη. Tourists head to Heraklion. If you want the true cultural experience Χανιά is the place to go. Specifically Σφακια. There’s a few Gorges you can walk through. You should visit Λουτρό and if you have the time Γλυκά νερά/ Γαύδο. There’s a multitude of beautiful beaches….there’s also a quaint village that barely uses any electricity too which is a great way to really disconnect.
In mid-August I will be in Crete for the fifth time and, in addition to the main attractions that you have beautifully illustrated, I have also planned to visit the southeastern part of the island, to discover places less traveled by tourism. Crete is magnificent. Hope to bring home beautiful pictures like yours! 😉 Greetings from Italy.
Great tips. I visited Crete and I'm going to do it again the next week, on my birthday! 😁 I need to bathe in the sea after so many busy months. I recommend trying paramotor flight! The view from above is great. Money spent on something like this is never lost💙Thanks!
Awesome content and tips and I would also add Kedrodasos Beach, which was my favorite beach in Crete in our journey few months ago! We loved it e we will come back for sure!
Hi I am Korean living in Netherlands. I have been to Crete recently and it was awesome a lot. We stayed all inclusive resort in fodele. If I would have seen your channel before my trip would be much more better. Let us keep in touch bye
hi i don’t mean to be awful but chania is pronounced Hania ! silent C , but i can understand how you can mis pronounce , we have been going to south west crete for over 15 yrs and yes we love it too !
@@worldwildhearts it is a beautiful island , we fell in love with people and the whole thing , we used to alternate between Cyprus and Crete but alas crete firmly crasped us and we almost bought a bungalow , but i became unwell so sadly we just return for holidays now , but we really look forward to returning , i think we have been to every part of the island , but our favourite is the south west , stunning ,! , my regards liz ,
Hii im going to Crete soon and I was wondering what game you were playing at 8:53 ? That looks very fun! Where did you buy it? This video was very helpful for my family, thank you!! ❤
I'm and artist and most my content is about this beautiful town that stole our hearts ❤ We even bought a house there and the obsession continues #crete #chania
Glad you enjoyed the video! There are definitely things to do for teenagers on the island if they like nature. Many beaches to swim and some hikes as well. If they like more city activities, then it would be best to base yourself in Chania or Heraklion
We had a rental car so we can't help you with that question! I know there's public transportation that takes you between the major destinations, but don't know how to get to the smaller places
@@worldwildhearts it is absolutely spectacular and should be on the list for anyone who enjoys hiking in nature! I’m from Canada and have gone out of my way to do it 5 times so far…
I am planning to go this july 2024 contemplating either Zakynthos or Crete, just wondering if it is possible to scooter(moped) around Crete or better to rent a car?
Not sure how it will be at that time… definitely a lot more quiet as it’s low-shoulder season! I’d say it’s risky weather-wise but you’ll have the place mostly to yourself which is a bonus!
Apart from the lame reading the script thing, this is a great tour. Watched a dozen Crete tour vids. The others made me puke. This, on the other hand, was very good. Thanks!
I wish you would pronounce Χανιά correctly - it's not Shania it's Hhaniá - where Hh is like Scottish ch in Loch or ch in German "ich". The accent is on the last "a".
We don’t allow our content to be used on other channels. We can add Arabic translations to this video as well. We’ll look into it. It’s a feature on RU-vid
We skipped that one unfortunately! We were in Sitia for the day and it’s not too far from there. However it was raining / cloudy that day so we decided to stay in the town!
We rented ours via rentalcars.com and picked it up in Haraklion at the airport. You can use this link to book it online if you want: www.rentalcars.com/?adcamp=213277261cad442f9786814b2-371964&adplat=affiliate&affiliateCode=gotravel602
Amazing video, I’m heading there in July, I’ll stay in Chania and rent a car to go around, very good tips, I’ll visit these beautiful places you’ve shown, thank you, how many days did you stay, I’ll be there for 4 full days, I’ll probably have to skip heraklion, but there ni way I’m in Crete and won’t visit Knossos, Yamas 🥂
thanks very much for your great video! we love Chania! did you travel from the US to Greece? if so, did you need to get all your vaccine shots including all of the booster shots? so far, we have only received the first 2 shots and none of the boosters. any idea regarding the requirements to fly to Greece now with regards to covid vaccines. thx very much! blessings!
Thanks! We loved Greece and we were there last summer. We flew from Belgium but there were some Americans in Greece who flew from the US! Greece was the most open country in all of Europe at that time and I’m sure it will still be open this summer! Definitely check with the shots, rules change quickly! Last year two was sufficient😊. Would be surprised if they require the booster but definitely check the government website to make sure
Amazing tips :) Me and my bf will be staying in crete for a month and we are very excited ! It seems all locations are quite far away from each other was it manageable to go places with a scooter?
Yes some of the places are quite far! Actually Crete is a big island... Wouldn’t recommend going around by scooter but rather rent a car! We rented a scooter just for heraklion and drove around there to the wine region but not any further.
Depending on where you stay (Rethymnon e.g. is a quite "central" spot for excursions to many destinations), buses might be an option. The infrastructure is quite good 👍 and the ticket prices are affordable. Enjoy your holidays! 🏖
We will be in Greece for 6 nights in September and will be staying in Heraklion. We'd want to see all of the beaches and locations you've mentioned, but I'm not sure if it'd be better to stay in one place and hire a bike to get about, or if you would recommend moving around? Thank you
Crete is much bigger than you’d expect! Some of the beaches (elafonisi / balos) are very far from heraklion and it would be best to stay in Chania when you visit them. So I’d say go to heraklion for a few days first and then head to chania for the rest!
Just for info Heraklion - Chania is 2 hrs drive by car. We have pinpoint our stay in Chania, despite that we plan to fly to Heraklion airport and rent a car.
Not sure how the rules have changed. Many countries are becoming more strict. When we were there, there were no issues. Only many places in Greece would have "no drone" zones (especially on popular places)
