What's up, everyone! Today we're upgrading my Honda CRF300L build with an Acerbis extended range fuel tank. After the install we'll check the weight difference, measure the actual capacity, and put it to the test on some off-road trails.
Let's see if this tank can handle the heat! 💥🏍️
btw. If you run out of fuel in the Honda it will light up the engine light but it will go away after a few rides. Mine took maybe 5-10 starts and few short rides to disappear.
Capacity: 13.26 L = 3.5 gal
Consumption: 3.9 L / 100 km (61 mpg)
My CRF build is starting to be almost ready. I would like to swap the footpegs to some better ones and maybe you have some suggestions as to what I'm still missing? Tell it in the comments! 😄

I was SOLD after you used your hoodie..... Yes, a Man's man. I've wondered about the larger tanks in all applications b/c I wonder how the gas in the lower wings of some larger tanks can ever get picked up? No tubes go down into the lobes of larger tanks, your tank is a medium size but you know the real big ones have elephant ears dropping down on each side & I can't see how you could ever use all the fuel within those type tanks? Nice install, peace & be safe.

In this tank the ”winglets” are actually really small and not much is lower than the fuel opening. I was sceptical about the same thing at first but this tank was sucked pretty darn dry.
@user-dv7hb2sc9m
@user-dv7hb2sc9m 27 дней назад
Yes, this is the 2nd time I've seen this tank selected & I've always questioned the larger ugly white tanks w/ great big lobes dropping over the sides of the bike. I think this tank gives ya like 1 gallon more fuel but the fuel capacity on the Rally version is one reason I'm kinda looking at her. I think I watched you add the platform/windshield on the front & that was quite crafty. Early on I thought this was the Rally version but I stayed b/c I like the way you explain things unlike many offering videos. If I somehow wind up w/ the 300L instead of the Rally, this tank is one I'll buy and I'm here doing this on 10 dual sport bikes. Writing all the problems, all the mods along w/ their costs, and then making comparison between them all to get the right bike for me. Of course my knowing what I may need post purchase is a lot more than most people consider but I've got the time before I buy as I save money, and it may be b/c I know of all these mods & their costs that I'll see a deal in a used bike that I'd otherwise have missed? I digress, you've got an easier style for my tastes, thanks for that & I'm surprised you don't have a larger following. I'll send people but I don't do that often. You be safe & peace

70 miles per gallon(3gallon tank);; that sounds about right & you drove it across lots of different terrains.

Finally a range test and not just an install video. 340km is awesome with that kind of riding. Maybe 380-400 cruising only at a lower rev range. And it should be called a 13L tank, not 14. As i said before, this is becoming the ultimate CRF300L channel! Great job and keep it up. Just got a load of parts for my 300L, bought the RR lvl2 suspension based on your video and feedback🔥🤘

I’ve had mine installed for over 12 months, with Yoshi exhaust & 550 ECU 91 octane stage 1 tune. I’ve made it past 400km relaxed travelling on back roads. A great upgrade to the 300l.

That's superb range for a little dualsport. I wanted to test kinda the 'worst case' in this video. I rode it pretty darn hard the whole time and it still managed pretty well. Nice to hear how much I can expect taking it bit more chilled.

Protip on grommets and rubber parts install: Put these in a cup of hot water for a minute. Rubber gets soft, much easier and safer to install.

I hate these buttons, too. Good you walked the Honda to the petrol station. In my journalistic life I've measured the tanks of all test models - ride them until empty. Preferably along a road with several petrol stations. I walked a lot ;-) Know how long reserve lasts. Have fun on those extended rides thanks to Acerbis. Günter/Nürnberg
@uralicdneprov1806
@uralicdneprov1806 3 дня назад
I've got the same Acerbis tank just before watching the video. I've never run out of fuel in Europe, but it got annoying to need to fill gas every ride. I don't park the bike in my living room, so I've got a tank cap vent nipple at MX shop instead of attaching long vent hose from cap to charcoal canister. Making that video must have been 100x harder than installing that tank. That fuel gauge graphic is neat.

May I ask what did you do with the vent hose going to the charcoal canister? Just sealed down or left it as it is?

I've Had my tank installed for about 3 weeks. When full, my Cap leaked terribly. its also very hard to get on without cross threading it. You have to be very patient with it. I installed an addition gasket in cap and that stopped the leaking. overall I'm very happy with it.
@PatchedBandit
@PatchedBandit 26 дней назад
I had no such issues and the cap threads perfectly. I tend to turn it counterclockwise and only tighten when it drops in to threads. Just like is recommended with plastic threads with screws too. Mine also didn't leak and the cap seal seemed very robust. Wonder what's the issue 🤔

finally a good video on it! thanks! mostly two things i'm missing - average fuel consumption at the end of the test drive, and Your subjective conclusion. personally i'm not 100% convinced, firstly because of the rubbery tube sticking out, preventing for a tankbag to sit over (extra non-hosed tank cap is supposedly not great quality wise), and secondly the capacity… quite disappointing. also as stupid as it sounds, but i'm afraid both of available caps won't prevent water from getting inside in case of long rainy rides.
@PatchedBandit
@PatchedBandit 27 дней назад
3.9 L/100KM easy to calculate from the video though. I left the conclusions to the audience this time 😄 I only saw high quality components during the install. At least the cap I installed is damn solid. The rubber seals didn't let a drop of fuel out so I don't see any way water would enter.

What are your thoughts on the windscreen and rally tower now that you've had them on for a while.
@PatchedBandit
@PatchedBandit 27 дней назад
I have no complaints. It helps a lot on longer trips and higway speeds. Also the lights are insanely nice when the big yellow ball goes out. Only negative I've noticed that in some more bumpy mid to high speed situations I can notice the added weight to the steering slightly. But that is something I got used to after the first 2 rides.

I think the volume of the tank itself is 14 liter, but the pump takes up some space in there.

Love mine accept 2 things. The fuelcap can be a bitch and I wish I got it in The tan/transparent color 😅
@PatchedBandit
@PatchedBandit 26 дней назад
I thought about the transparent option a long time too. I think the black one does visually go a bit better but I get the appeal of the transparent option too. It looks more like 'rally' bikes do and you can see the fuel level through it so.. But the black one looks more like it's an original part of the bike. I think the cap goes in super easy if you just twist it counterclockwise until you feel it drop in to the threads and then close it down.
