A slower ball is a change up. Imagine a bowler delivers 6 balls. 90mph, 89mph, 91mph, 88mph, 90mph, then the slower ball (same run up, arm position, etc) and the ball comes at 70mph, throwing off the batter's timing completely.

11:25 in cricket a win is a win, you get the same amount of points for a win regardless of margin of win. However, the margin of win does reflect on this metric called the Net Run Rate (NRR), which is used to rank teams with the same number of points in a tournament. So in a tournament with 2 teams on the same amount of points by the end of the group stage matches, the NRR is essentially the "tie-breaker" to determine which team advances to the playoffs (knockout rounds like semi-finals). Very simplified: It measures how quickly a team scores runs compared to how quickly they allow their opponents to score runs. So, if a team's NRR is positive, it means they are scoring runs faster than they are conceding them. If it's negative, they are conceding runs faster than they are scoring them. If you look at the current T20 World Cup points tables, you'll see the NRR column on the far right of the table
@LinkinPark15Ash
@LinkinPark15Ash Месяц назад
if you want an example of the NRR calculation, say Team A scores 200 runs in 20 overs. Team B then scores 201 in 20 overs to win the game on the last ball. The Run Rate (RR) for Team A = 200 runs / 20 overs = 10 Runs per Over (RPO). The RR for Team B = 201/20 = 10.05 RPO (Run Rate and Runs per Over are synonymous - just some cricket terminology for ya) The NRR is the difference between both teams' run rates. for Team A the NRR is 10 - 10.05 = -0.05 For Team B: 10.05 - 10 = +0.05 So you can see since Team B has a positive NRR, they scored more runs quicker than they conceded them.

you guys might know this but in cricket a bowler cannot bend his elbow during the bowling like baseball , he/she can bend the wrist that determines the type of ball that you guys reacted a while ago . the bowler's hand must be straight while bowling unless he/she has a slight genetic/structural deformation that doesn't allow the elbow to be straight. Many bowlers in the past has been accused of bending the elbow while bowling ( cause bowling while like baseball bending the elbow is much easier then bowling with a straight arm ) and the committee may decide to tell the bowler to change his bowling action and pass the test next time ( eg - sahid ajmal , Ashwin, sunil Narine )

One major thing that this guy who you're reacting to forget that you're not allowed to bend your elbows while you throw the ball. Which makes a huge difference. All the power comes from run-up, back & shoulder. It's way more difficult to throw on precise line and length with different type of deliveries in that momentum.

Very true! In baseball the difference in fields would be the size and the heights you have to get over to hit home runs. In some stadiums like for the Boston Red Sox, left hand batters have an advantage because once side of the field has a huge wall that extends the yards that you have to hit the ball to hit a home run.
@gauthamvadlamudi3500
@gauthamvadlamudi3500 Месяц назад
@22:30 I think what he meant in the video is that for someone who doesn't know both sports, without any prior knowledge or biases, watching a cricket match and comprehending what's happening based on how scores change, reactions etc is lot easier and instinctive (because wickets, wide lines, boundary, crease everything is physically visible and things are simple, you can hit anywhere, and run, protect the sticks behind, hit hard towards the boundary, and every six deliveries the "thrower" of the ball changes. that's it), all of which are very instinctively picked up by someone new watching it (who doesn't have a different bias of understanding the rules based on a similarly sport like baseball). When comparing this to watching a baseball game and understanding the rules... Comprehending the core essential basic concepts just by watching the games is very difficult Eg: strikezone, strikes, ball, foul, foul=strike for first 2 strikes, 4 bases, foul areas, double play, etc... (except foul lines, batter box, everything else is abstract concept without any physical representation on the field, and can't be understood instinctively without explanation) and so baseball is clearly difficult to comprehend just by watching compared to cricket. Of every game has lot more rules, intricacies, laws (in cricket), techniques, strategies, types of plays, etc, and both games are equally complicated at higher level, but fir someone who never watched both, cricket is easier to understand on surface level and start enjoying the match, compared to the same person watching baseball fir the first time and is struggling to understand and piece together the different concepts like strike, ball or Out, guessing the rules by trial and error (which becomes extremely difficult to grasp when the strike zone box is not displayed), Of course from your perspective, hitting anywhere is totally unheard of due to your baseball experience and thus you feel cricket is different to understand at basic level (just the game play not nuances, intricacies, Eg: certain concepts like LBW confuse cricket fans even today, especially while the ball is pitching legside and hitting wickets). All said, there as as many differences as many similarities if not more, between the two. Cricket has as many variations as in base ball like Pace bowling, swing bowling, spin bowling, knuckle ball bowling, similar to power pitchers, control pitchers, breaking ball specialists, knukleballers... in baseball (my terminology can be wrong), and each of these categories have different sub-variations like medium pace, off&on cutter, reverse swing, or offspin, legspin which further have different types like doosra, googly, slider, flipper, topspinner, etc... (4-seam, 2-seam, or splitter, cutter, or changeup etc).. and till here, both have decent number of variations. But in cricket additional dimension of where the ball bounces off the ground (pitching length and line) adds additional dimension to it taking the complexity to a whole different level (for techniques playing intricacies etc). Just in pitching length, Short length (bouncers), medium length, good length, and Yorker (on the ties), full toss (ball doesn't bounce)... Will totally change the play style of the batsman starting with their footwork, whether to go backfoot, or front foot etc., by guessing the pitching contact point just after the release. Another complexity is the line of bowling (location of the ball bounce, perpendicular to the pitch) where batsman has to decide to move sideways cover or openup the wickets to play the best possible shot for that line and length. And of course the timing, is obviously complexity which is compounded by drastic speed reduction and direction change of the ball and spin on it, depending on all those, batsmen has to respond. It's more complex is cricket as batsman has to protect his body, wickets and score simultaneously dealing with all these complexities. But all these complexities are there for the players playing cricket and not for the spectators or regular casual audience. Baseball has a totally different type of challenge as the time available to react is shorter, bat is smaller and they have to start swinging after guessing the type of pitch during the release, which is more difficult to do imo. The type of challenge is different in both and can't be compared, as being good in one doesn't make good in the other, but, cricket is more complex as a sport, but it's easier to comprehend and understand at basic level just to follow the game play and enjoy it, compared to baseball where one needs more knowledge if different abstract concepts like strike, ball, strike zone, why are they running counterclockwise, etc before understanding the basic game play.

We appreciate this comment. You made a lot of different points that explained the sport in better detail than what we have read or watched before. In a summary response to what you said, I think that just explains the difference to what you are used to. Because we have watched rugby which is similar to football and some other sports that were comparative to the sports that we know. Cricket on the other hand has been more challenging to understand from a blind eye. Main concepts are the same, but the way the game is set up, the score card, the different styles, and some more makes it more complicated. It’s not a negative or positive things! It just shows more how different the games are and why they both are challenging. Well that's the thing like he said. Let's keep it simple without going into big paragraphs. Like on the base level of both sport is how to score runs and how you get out. In cricket it's easier to understand how this is done rather than baseball. But if you are going at a pro level of game then yes cricket becomes extremely complex and strategies game. Eg - the field setting, the over rotations, batting placements for runs etc etc. Then it becomes more complex. Because in baseball if you know the basics of the game even in pro level it's basically the same where in cricket is the exact opposite the base is easy but the rest becomes complicated. @@RealFansSports

The Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method (DLS) is an equation that's used to decide results in games interrupted by rain. It's basically a way of calculating what score team B should be compared to Team A. There are all sorts of ways this happens depending on when the rain hits. It's not a perfect method, but it's better than any alternative that's been tried. It tends to work better in 50 over a side cricket rather than 20 over a side which is the format used at the current WC being played.

This video just suggests that even after 5 years of watching cricket, he still only has a basic knowledge of the game and doesn't understand the strategy behind it. And in that, it argues against his own argument that baseball is more complicated (IMO). NOTE: The Duckworth Lewis System has changed to Duckworth Lewis Stern System. In new cricket rules, a team cannot benefit from the crossover happening during the catch. It is mandatory for the new batsman to take strike. This means a batting team cannot take advantage of a set batsman on a catch out and the bowling team is rewarded for it.

In cricket slower bowl also has a lot of variety, the bowlers who have mastered the slower ball can bowl a slower ball without any change in the speed of their arm, the position of their wrist how they hold the ball etc. Varieties of slower Ball in cricket are like back of the hand slower ball , knuckle ball ( where the bowler holds the ball between the knuckles ), off cutter or leg cutter , dipping slower Ball , slower Yorker or slower bouncer,etc they practice hundreds of times in nets so that they can decieve the batsman

The main reason why I think Baseball has a culture of letting the crowd keep the Homerun balls is that when the ball loses its shine (Atleast in Cricket) the ball stops swinging in air resulting in easier time to hit the ball for the batsman and most batsman not being to send to the crowd is what the thrill is about so instead of just replacing the ball let the ball be kept by a fan Correct me if I am wrong

Im not really sure to be honest, because a baseball is constantly switched out in baseball even if it does not get sent into the stands. I know some players like a ball that’s a little more beaten up, but other do not and rather it be completely smooth.

@@shadeoclutch807 yeah I mean it very well could be something to do with that! My thought in regards to that a baseballs stitches is a different pattern to that of a cricket ball which is one line that goes in a circle. The Score card of cricket is consist of 3 parts: 1) The 1st part is the runs that the batting team score . This part start form 0 and end with the number of runs that batting team can score .... (its ususally 200 runs in t20 format, 300 runs in ODI format and its anything above 400 in test format but there are many exception to this avg score depending the many factors .Thus those score might be lower or higher depending on the condition of that game on that day.) 2) The 2nd part is the number of wicket that the bowling team will achieve after taking wickets from the batting team..Its start from 0 and end in 10 as there are max 10 player who will face the ball ( although 11 players play but only one batsman play the ball at a time,the other batsman stand on non striker end) 3) 3rd is the number of overs that the bowling has bowled in an innings... Its start from 0 and end with the format that the game is played. Like 20 overs in T20 format(per inning) 50 overs in ODI format(per inning) and 90 overs in Test Format( per inning) Thus a score card of a cricket match is like 100 - 2 ( 10 overs) The 100 is the battong team score , 2 is the number of wickets that the bowling team has achieved and 10 is the number of overs that played in an innings...

Cricket is easier to understand as a spectator..The difficulty creeps in if you are a Captain having to decide fielding positions, based upon the bowlers style, batters weakness or strength and even at times his intention to 'allow' a run to be taken only to get a fresh or rookie batsman to face a particular bowler. As a spectator its not that complicated as you have mostly to only appreciate or otherwise the end result of a strategy employed by the fielding Captain (mostly) to get a batsman out.

In a test match the ball can be changed after 80 overs - about five hours. Fast bowlers like a hard ball, spin bowlers prefer a ball that's been scuffed up a bit, since it grips better when it bounces. As for the Duckworth-Lewis method, no-one understands the maths. It's magic. Fielding positions are decided between the captain and bowler, sometimes with input from the wicketkeeper. I'd say that cricket is easier to grasp the basis of if you're a new watcher, but it takes far longer to learn all the nuances of it than baseball. PS - if you hadn't talked over it (and several other things), you'd know what happens in the case of a tie - it was explained in the video!

I have a question for you guys. Seeing as both Baseball and Cricket both originated in England (and it seems that baseball came from cricket), why do you think that baseball is not that popular in the UK and that cricket isn't that popular in the US? It seems weird that one dominates and the other is a minority sport in their respective countries. England had a professional baseball league in 1890, but it died after one season and soccer became more popular.
@RealFansSports
@RealFansSports Месяц назад
So as far as I know baseball was created in coopers town, New York in 1839. But it could be a lot of different things. Who the owners were of the sport and how they marketed it. I also thinks it’s hard to promote two sports that are similar in a lot of ways to the naked eye. It’s a good question though. Might have to look it up. Even in the US cricket was played a bunch very early, but baseball took over
@handsolo1209
@handsolo1209 Месяц назад
@@RealFansSports Baseball was created in Tudor England as a safe sport for ladies and children (it was called base-ball). It then became known as rounders, had bases to run to (poles sticking out of base) that had to be touched. The only major differences are the size of the bat (about 12 inches in rounders) and the bases (rounders has the diamond, but home base is not where you start, you straight line past 3rd base to a 5th base kind of where the batters warm up circle is). From rounders came a variation in Ireland which doesn't have the 5th base, so is on a diamond and has a much bigger bat. Irish rounders is essentially softball. English base-ball was being played in America in the 1740s, so what is now American baseball is probably this mixed with Irish rounders, and it evolved in to it's own game over time.

Nonpfixion is more of the expert on baseball than me, but I know that there are 4 or 5 types of fastball that all travel differently between 97-103mph (fastest is 106 off the top of my head), the you have a change up which looks like fast ball but comes at much slower speed. Next you have breaking balls such as sliders, inbreaking, outbreaking, sinkers, screwballs, and I believe two more that have names but the movement is slightly is different from the main 4. And then knuckle ball, which is probably the hardest pitch to master and isn’t used as much, but those that can do it are dangerous.

He is saying cricket is easy for the ppl who doesnt know both the games but you guys are saying baseball is easy, ofcourse baseball is easy for baseball fans like you guys, but the point is for the ppl who doesnt know both games. In baseball 3 outs can happen from a single pitch, he cant run from fly ball until the catch is taken, in cricket there is no complication, simple out and if the catch is dropped he doesn't need to go back to the crease and make a run. In cricket you can run or just remain, in baseball you need to run to the 1st base. These are some ex for how cricket is easier than baseball.

The Duckworth method from what i understand even though im not sure is like if Australia scored 320 - 6 in their 50 over innings and India is at 120 - 4 in 20 overs then the situation is compared to what was Australia's score and remaining wickets when they were at 20 overs an average is calculated between the remaining overs and wickets for india (30 overs and 6 wickets) if that compared Average is worse than Australia then india lost.

I had this written out a while back for content creators like you. Hope it helps. Cricket for dummies Played in an oval ground, no size restrictions. 11 players to a side. Playing surface is called pitch, rectangular, 22 yards long. Pitch is hard packed earth so the ball can bounce. At both ends of pitch, three wooden sticks driven into ground, called stumps/or wickets. The main contest is between batsman and bowler. Two batsmen bat together, a batsman can't bat alone. Bowler is supported by 10 fielders. Bowler is also a fielder. Means there are always 13 players on the ground. The role of batsmen Batsman score 'runs'. That means they run along the 22 yard pitch, end to end. So the batsman will hit the ball, and fielder runs to stop it. In the meantime, the two batsmen will run, between the wickets, as many times as they can. 1 and 2 are common, 3 times not so much. If the ball races to the fence, they don't have run, they get 4 'runs' automatically. If it goes over the fence without touching the ground they get 6. Now dummies may think, that how 'two' batsmen can bat? At the same time? It's all about running. Batter A is batting, batter B is waiting at the other end (where the bowler throws the ball from). Bowler balls. Batter A hits. He runs to the other end. B, meanwhile runs to his end and they exchange places. And the next bowl is faced by B. If they run '2 runs' then B goes back to his original spot and A will face the next ball. So if it's odd number Batsmen change, if it is even, same batsman faces the next delivery. There are other constraints, but that is beyond dummies, so this is it for now. Bowler Throws the ball to get the batsman out. It's called a delivery or just a 'ball'. Can 'out' the batsman in many ways. Most common of them are- 1.if the ball hits the wickets (irrespective of if it did hit the bat or body before that) 2. if batsman hits in the air and fielder catches it 3. If batsman runs and a fielder manages to 'run out' him before he reaches the end(can be any of two ends because there are ........) Another common way to get out is LBW. Too complicated to explain for dummies. Crudely it can be defined- If the ball is gonna hit the wicket and the batter puts his leg in its path he is leg-before-wicket and hence out! Now, it is not mandatory to bounce the ball on the ground. But everyone does because it is easy to hit a full toss (ball which does not hit the ground like a baseball pitch). And if you are not making it hit the ground then it should not be above the battery's waist. Balling has to be always above the shoulders and you can't bend your elbow more than 14 degrees. (That is why bowlers run, so that they can generate the force). The bowl is hard leather, and weighs around 160 gms. (So yes, it can kill and has killed.) There are basically two kinds of bowlers- pacers who rely on speed and slow bowlers who rely on variations. The pitch plays a very important role in bowling as the quality, hardness and moisture levels affect the speed and trajectory of the ball. (Good bowling pitches are lovingly called 'unplayable' these days.) Fielders They field. They run to stop the ground balls and dive to catch the ones in air. And try to run out the batsmen by throwing. there are well defined fielding positions and a combination of it is used depending on who is bowling, who is batting and what the conditions are. There are also fielding restrictions. Format- Test cricket goes for 5 days. A maximum of 450 balls is played each day. For the viewer it could be quite boring 4 1/2 out of 5 days. But, for the player; well there is no better 'test'. Mentally and athletically draining (especially for English players). And after 5 days of hard work the match can end in draw( without a clear winner) One Day is for 8 hours. Both teams play 300 balls each maximum. Whoever scores more wins. T20 is for 3-4 hours. Obviously the most popular format. Both teams play 120 balls each maximum. Whoever scores more wins. Some terms necessary to understand these formats. Innings Relates to batting. The period where a whole team bats is called an inning. As you can see in the format description, in One day an inning can't go more than 300 balls (even if all the batters haven't batted), but in test an inning can go on for as long as all the 11 players have batted. So if your team bats for three days without getting out well your inning was of three days (around 1350 balls). If all your batsmen get out within an hour then your inning has ended and the other team is going to probably make you suffer for the next three days. Overs- A bowler can't ball forever. So there must be a method to alternate them. Well bowlers are changed after 'an over'. An over is equal to 6 balls. (That is why one day and T20 have 300 and 120 balls limit- multiples of 6) So how many overs are played in one day cricket? (Question for dummies) There are no limits to the number of overs a bowler can bowl in Test. Slow ballers ball like 50 overs (300 balls) in one inning. Because they are not getting tired and can keep going. In one day the limit for a bowler is 10 overs (60balls) and in T20 it's 4 overs. Strike rate- Number of runs scored per hundred balls. So in test a SR of 40 to 60 is good. In One day 80+ is good. In T20 your strike rate should always be 100- 150. That means scoring at least one run in every ball you play. So, you can see that from test to T20 the games goes from soft skill to more primal hitting. Test is tea and cakes in the afternoon, T20 is 'seek and destroy'. In test you have to stay and not get out. In T20 you have to take risk and score as much as you can. In one day you balance both. Leaving the ball Soemtimes when you watch cricket you will see batsmen leaving the ball (not trying to hit it at all). It's more common in Test. Fairly common in one day. And I am sure it's a crime in T20.

See Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method uses different components such as how many wickets were remaining, what type of batsman was batting, what type of batters were about to come, what bowlers had how many overs left(6 balls i.e. 6 pitches in baseball terms), what was the ground conditions, at what run rate they are going. And based on all this they calculate the estimate. The calculation however is extremely complicated even professional cricketers does not know how to do the calculation

The only way a fast bowler can bowl a slower ball effectively, that is without giving away that he's bowling a slow ball is through the wrist action/the ball grip in the fingers or how he spins it and the seam position. You can't just move your arms slower to bowl a slow ball because it's too obvious

It is a slower ball. The ball use slower balls in the middle because batsman is used to play the fast balls of that bowler and when the slower balls are used properly the batsman swings the bat before the ball reach to him. This creates the chance of mishit or bowled.

Yeah that is like a change up in baseball. But our point was he just made it seem like there are two basic differences between styles of bowling. Atleast that’s how we took it. Obviously there’s a lot more to it.

Imagine A spherical Ball release with a slight rotation of fingers and that spinning ball with the speed of the ball is 49 mph and then after pitching on the ground,the ball turn 12° away from you and you have judge the the angle of the ball which will come towards to you and speed of the ball (assume) in less a 3 secs and then upon your instinct you to need to play or defend that ball in that small duration of time... . And this is just one type of bowl in cricket and there are many other bowl ( pitching) also.. Thats how complex cricket is .... Its far harder to play crickey than playing baseball which is just tossing ball coming to towards you..... A bet a professional cricket player ( real professional not some random cricketer) can hit consecutive homeruns in every pitch that a pitcher will throw if that cricket player trains for just 1 month in baseball. Whereas the reverse( baseball player plays cricket). is most likely will not happen in more than 2 yrs of training in cricket . Thats how complex cricket is.. Thats why those who understand this sport, are completely in love with this sport
@RealFansSports
@RealFansSports Месяц назад
I agree with everything you are saying until the baseball part. That is so far from the truth of how the ball is just tossed to you. the ball curves, sinks, rises, and knuckles going around 80-90mph and some can do that in the 90s. That test has already been done and the cricket player was not instantly good and also was only being pitched straight slow fast balls. You sound like someone who loves cricket, but never seen a single game of baseball and just talk trash to go with a trend. Actually watch a game or even a compilation video and make your own opinion.

@@RealFansSports as i said those studies done by not professional cricketer ... Let me give an example .. There is video on Baseball vs Cricket where a not so best English cricketer Harry brook with just on 1 Day of Training In baseball was able to hit homerun as almost same distance as professional baseball player do.... Just 1 Day of training
@hazardEXE27
@hazardEXE27 Месяц назад
@@RealFansSports also.the avg speed of bowl by a fast bowler in cricket is 93 Mph or 150Kmp . The Fastest ball in crcket histroy record is 161.1 kmp = 100.2 mph... As i said 90 mph is the avg speed of fast bowler. The thing is that it all depend on the ball pitching on the ground and then coming towards you in less than 3 secs is what make this game difficult . The ball literally does an angel before coming to bat and a batsman need to stick to his instinct to hit the ball
@hazardEXE27
@hazardEXE27 Месяц назад
@@RealFansSports also i suggest you to watch jos buttler( real england cricketer not some random dude😂) tiring baseball and see how easily he is hitting home run.. As i said a cricketer can easily hit a homerun with just few days or a month of training whereas opposite is most unlikely to happen. A fulltoss delivery which the baseball pitch is one of the easiest bowl that a bowler(pitcher) can bowl in a cricket match

@@RealFansSports ticketing system need to be controlled for fair and affordable prices atleast this season for the first time hosts. And make a video with a person who has good knowledge to explain you things and it'll be more interesting for us. And, captian had all the control in the field where to place a fielder. He decideds field position based on the batter strength like if a batter is good at on side i.e., behind himself then opposition captian will place 1 or 2 fielders on the on-side boundary so when batter tries to use his strength and go for six he may get caught on the boundary. The other fielders he may place off-side and asks his bowler to bowl wide off side so batter can't really manage to hit on side. There are lot of startergies through every ball and you know what dot balls (nno score) are more interesting than a boundary in test cricket.

Few points on this video. Firstly, there are four different types of cricket games , and 3 of them are official form with international competition (test mach or 5 day, one day Mach or 50 overs and T20)and there is one mor that called action cricket. Also, balls in cricket play a very important role in setting the game strategy on your game, depending on the kinds of players that you have in the game ,the ground conditions and climate you are playing .that is why even when there is a need to change the ball ,umpires make sure to choose a ball close to the number of the over that previous ball was played ,from same ground with similar condition. Teams set their ballers and batsmen according to the condition of the ball and the pitch

@RealFansSports
@RealFansSports Месяц назад
Yeah we knew that, we were just saying that we didn’t like how simple he simplified it. Because as a new viewer of cricket it makes it seem like you have a fast ball and slow ball, but the slow balls have a lot of movement that are created purposely. Similar to how some people that don’t know baseball think that it is just full tosses but there are a multitude of pitches that have different movements that are hard to read
@chinmaylenka1679
@chinmaylenka1679 Месяц назад
@@RealFansSports yeah. When i first saw baseball i used to think thats its only full tosses and as full tosses are the easier balls to hit in cricket, i used to think thats it is easy to hit baseball compared to cricket. Only recently i have realised thats its the other way around. Hitting a baseball pitch is much harder than hitting a ball in cricket. I don't know much baseball but i think this is correct. I learnt baseball from a video game😅

No its actually a slower ball. So a fast bowler can bowl a slower ball to add variation to his bowling. But then there are spin bowlers who bowl slow. I think you were referring to spin bowlers. But he is referring to fast bowlers bowling slower balls.

@RealFansSports Месяц назад
Yeah I get that. We were saying it more from a perspective of a baseball fan that’s just learning. If I watched that video as my first cricket video I would think he meant that there are only two types of bowls. Just felt like he simplified it more than what it is. No hate on the creator!
