Reporter Caryn Lieberman tells the story of the 1994 disappearance of Larry Arnold, a man who went missing from Toronto’s gay village. Arnold’s body wasn’t found until weeks later, discovered in an area "known for sexual cruising."
We hear the frustration of family members, who feel investigators initially didn’t take the case seriously enough. Until…police got a break that would change everything. Larry Arnold wasn’t this killer’s only victim.

Gay man beaten in woods, gay man beaten in woods, gay man beaten in woods. That's all I'm hearing. Terrible poor Larrys whose private life is blurted out CONSTANTLY for all to hear,but the simple lack of respect from all these people. Shame on you all really, so glad things have moved on a bit now. People are people first. R.I.P.

exactly my thoughts! i thought straight away that’s the reason it was the only homicide that detective hadn’t solved before retiring. it’s disgusting the way people are categorised into groups of types and then prioritised by who’s death is worth investigating! so tragic!

Takeaway. You can be designated a dangerous offender, having committed a series of crimes, and the parole board of Canada will eagerly await to determine if the risk has decreased enough for a criminal to be released into society. Wrong! These killers should rot in prison, not be released and given freedom!!! 😡
@noelennon420
@noelennon420 5 месяцев назад
Take a look at both the crime rate and the prison system in the US. They have one of the highest percentages of ppl incarcerated in the world, and a way higher murder rate then Canada. Doesn't seem to work... Take a look at European countries. You need to rehabilitate people, not let them rot away in prison, leaving kids without parents to turn to the streets which gives you another generation of the same... Rinse Repeat.

i lived in a nice appartment building in Nova Scotia and come to find out there were 3 lifers whom moved in. Not only was i shocked but i thought why would you let people out whom got life! Life should be life you should rot in prison. As a woman i moved out shortly there after. 8 Years down the road a killing happened in the building by one of them and it was my old appartment. Good choice i left!

As for the first sequence, could it be possibly connected to Toronto's serial killer Bruce McArthur?

The line “…an admitted homosexual” is so subtle, yet so damaging. To ‘admit’ something, is to come clean, to confess, as though you’ve committed a crime or at minimum, done something for which you should be ashamed. This was how gays were discussed in the media, in society, less than 20 years ago. Words matter. They impact how we perceive people and actions, how much we care, or how much attention we give someone. I’m so sorry for Gary.

It’s 1994. Things change. There’s a reason they call it coming out. It’s antithetical to biology. Doesn’t mean it’s wrong but it’s a struggle for many to even admit to theirselves and you expect society to have a higher understanding for something even those experiencing it can’t grasp? You’re an activist.
@wandakowalski7063
@wandakowalski7063 2 года назад
Yes, what you say is true. However, society acceptance of understanding of gays has grown enormously. People can get married, adopt children and really, for many, many people, it’’s no big deal. I’m older now and I hope I live to the day where people don’t have to introduce themselves, hello, I’m gay. While young people raised in narrow minded homes still are not tolerant, the older people who are not tolerant will die off and hopefully, no one will blink an eye. And that will be a good era … the human race would be evolving from barbarians to something less than that.

@@CrimeBeatTV maybe be a pioneer of crime shows and stop using a trailer in the beginning of every show. We’re already here to watch. No need to give away so much in the first few minutes. What do all crime fans seek? Mostly a whodunnit. So there’s no need. But I’m sure nothing will change because most fans don’t seem to mind spoilers or they’d voice it. I’ve never heard this complaint before yet it seems antithetical to give away details in the first minutes.

People need to be a little street smart. Those who are too open and trusting need to understand that those looking to victimize others see you as a target. Everyone should be intelligent enough to avoid putting themselves in vulnerable situations. Larry chose to visit the woods with a man he just met, a man who was bigger and stronger than he. Why not say, ‘let’s get a room?’ You ask because you want to hear what his answer is. Does he have an aversion to that? Can you figure out why? Ask more questions. Listen to their answers and take note of any that are unexpected, or off putting. A persons inner motivations are always there to discover, if you ask the right questions, seemingly innocent questions. Don’t bother asking if they are dangerous, in other words.

This is a great series! Done with delicate taste to the victims and families. The Toronto detective appears on several of their episodes. I really like his demeanor and empathy. That photo in the thumbnail was very familiar to me and so when I clicked on it, that famous photo of the gentleman sitting in the chair, all came back. Random comment now. I found it a bit odd that as a Canadian himself, he would refer to a fellow Canadian as a French Canadian. Being in Eastern Ontario, we say francophone. When we hear someone say French Canadian, that phrase itself is typically used by other nationalities. Strange to hear a Canadian use this phrase. Is this how Southern ON refers to francophones? I'm not one myself. Just curious. I know that Toronto is really anglo (and to be honest, anti-french, that's a fact) but it just seems like a foreign phrase really. Also, he was very stylish in his day with coiffed hair ! The Sarah Whitehead murder is familiar as well. May they rest in peace.

There were several gay men in Toronto murdered by bruce mcarthur, a serial killer who was gày himself. The landscaper. It wasnt a hate crime, the victims were convenient prey . ( I hit that emoji by accident)
