It was 1am on a cold, wet November night in 2011 when police found Leanne Freeman lying unconscious in a pool of blood. She later died in a downtown hospital, becoming Toronto’s 42nd homicide of the year.
The 23-year-old Freeman lived a lonely, troubled life, on the streets of Canada's largest city. Addicted to drugs, she ended up being a part of a group called “The Crystal Circle”, named for their use and dealing of crystal meth. It was members of that group who became suspects in her murder.

Beautiful young lady, heartbreaking that she was abandoned by family, but thankfully she was surrounded by others that cared. It always appears communities step up AFTER a tragedy, and thankfully we do. It’s just sad she didn’t have the support during her troubled youth. It takes a whole village to raise a child, somewhere along the way, the village lost her. Hopefully now she is at peace.

I would say often they don't want it. Young people feel invincible and if you tell them to stop doing drugs and get out of the lifestyle or something bad will happen they don't believe it. I'm glad the friends she had were able to use this tragedy as a wake up call to change.

IMO: The saddest part about Leanne's history, is that there are hundreds more Leanne's out there. I hope they live long enough to escape the psychological vampires, the darkness that surrounds illicit drugs, and beat the poverty, drugs and lifestyle of homelessness. Most important of all is for people everywhere to remember the Leanne's out there need hugs too.

I may get flack for this, but wasn't Leanne a criminal? Did she not sell drugs and do B&E? Not exactly a model citizen. Not saying, that it was right for these guys to take her life. The sentence those guys got is pathetic. Her life was worth more than that

I find many of your episodes interesting, so thank you. I was wondering if it would be possible to rename the episodes by exchanging Homicide #42 with Leanne Freeman's name. I feel it is important that the victim be treated with respect rather than dehumanized by being labelled with a crime number. Do you other viewers agree?

This is a professional TV series just uploaded to a RU-vid channel, they wont be reading or caring about comments. There is also impact that it is the 42nd homicide when so many of us are so sheltered that you feel they are few and far between. Sadly her lifestyle made her more likely to be one of those numbers
@michaelevans205
@michaelevans205 3 месяца назад
I think the title merely demonstrates the gritty normality of this kind of crime. The series has some excellent titles and this is one of them. The programme itself does Leanne justice and is the opposite of dehumanising. What IS disrespectful is the puny sentence handed down to the killers.....an issue that raises it's head here in the UK too.

I still don't understand the reason why she was killed. They were talking about the necklace. This guy offered the two men $180 for the necklace which in my opinion was a real good price for the piece in the criminal world. There was also insinuations of her wanting her cut from the break in. Why didn't they say she could keep the necklace as her cut. It seems like she took it because she ment it was what she deserved. Again, they were offered $180 so why didn't they just take those money? This case has just so many lose threads and is impossible to understand the motivation behind the murder which really frustrated me!

Binangkal Recipe Ingredients: 1 1/2 cup all purpose flour 3/4 cup powdered milk 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/3 cup sugar 1 tablespoon melted butter (or margarine) 1/4 cup evaporated milk 1 piece egg 1/2 cup sesame seeds Oil for deep frying Directions: 1. In a large bowl, add the all purpose flour, powdered milk and baking powder. Combine and mix well. 2. In another bowl, combine the sugar, evaporated milk, melted butter and egg. Mix until well combined. 3. Add the wet mixture to the dry mixture. Mix until well combined. Knead for a few minutes until smooth and sticky. 4. Grab a small portion of the mixture and then roll into a ball. Then, coat them with sesame seeds. 5. When fully covered by sesame seeds, roll them again in your palm to make sure that the seeds will not fall. Do these steps with the rest of the ingredients. Heat a lot of oil in a pan. Deep fry the binangkal balls until golden brown. Transfer them to a strainer or paper towel to drain excess oil. Transfer the binangkal to a serving plate. Enjoy this with your favorite afternoon tea or coffee. Yummy

I’m sorry but if you live this way, you die this way. I used to have endless amounts of sympathy and compassion for people wrapped up in this lifestyle whether it was addiction or otherwise, but now I have none. Hard lessons in life have taught me that they CHOOSE this, and they will harm or take from strangers OR even loved ones to get what they want. Very sad that a life was lost …but if you are engaged in drugs and crime what can you expect?

@@c_telking4433 thank you. Sadly, I’ve learned those exact lessons the hard way from my loved ones, which has left me with the mindset I have towards these stories now. I do not mean to come across as bitter, but I guess it leaks through when you can’t love someone into beating their addiction and you come to the hopeless realization that they love their next fix more than you. Not to mention they will hurt you if you’re standing in their way. Anyhow, best wishes to you. May you and yours be spared and/or strong enough to save yourselves from this.

They need a starting point, it's not because they pick and choose. This woman was found still alive with bullet casings around her that could be traced and she had the number of her killer in her belongings. Plus Indigenous people are notorious for remaining silent even in the deaths of people in their own community. So people need to talk to the police for them to get anywhere
