A movie full of so many implausible elements! I loved it especially when Leon Ames saw the light and turn convicts into a military drill team. Thanks for putting it on the Web. It was a hoot.
john buchinsky Yes,I understand " where you're coming from,to a degree,Mr.Buchinsky!" As Voltaire stated," Common Sense is not so common." I would prefer to have a Ph.D.in Common Sense, than in any academic field.Nancy MO.
Dennis Dowd Gary is the one with his head on straight. You are so mired in filth that you can’t see above it. If you’re lucky someday you’ll be able to rise above it.
Ruth Fitzwater Wrong. The both of you are singing the siren song of "the good old days". Nothing new, sung since the first Greek tragedy. Your parents sang it as you were enjoying your fav movie or music and their parents sang it before them, ad infinitem
I just watched all The Crime Doctor movies that were uploaded. Hadn't seen them since TCM ran them. So glad I stumbled upon them on here. I really enjoyed, thank so much for sharing.
Ray Collins also played Dr. Ordway on the radio version of The Crime Doctor. If you look around the internet you can find some episodes of the radio version, but the episodes I've listened to have all had pretty bad sound quality.
HUGE fan of 'The Crime Doctor" series!!! especially the one featuring the enigmatic dancing "Bragas'. Baxter is a natural as Dr. Ordway, there is something so at ease and right in his portrayal as the amnesiac mature student-turned shrink, I just love him. 10 films in this series??? I think I may have only seen 3, and I love them all - cannot wait to see the rest. Just hope they can be found here on the blessing that is You Tube
Thanks for such a fantastic upload. Love these old classic movies from around the world they have better taste and form than the new stuff we're being shown today.
Frankly I find movies such as this much better than some recent Hollywood films. (CHIPs comes to mind.) These old films were before my time so it's not just nostalgia.
Thanks for the information of it being the first of the 10 movies. I was so confused but this helps a little bit. I wonder if there’s a listing somewhere in the in order. This makes about the 4th or 5th one that I’ve watched. There’re being 10 in all that means that if I’ve watched 5 of them so, I’m half way through. That means that I only have 5 more to watch and I hate that.
I like their dialog. While a little simplistic compared to more polished films, it shows that people haven't changed as much in seventy years, as one would believe. Although I've seen Touch of Evil, I only remembered seeing Ray Collins in the Perry Mason series.
Well! An absolutely terrific movie!! I hadn't seen it before and very glad I tuned in!! Excellent actin from all concerned especially Warner Baxter who, I feel, was underrated as a dramatic actor. Good to see a young Ray Collins (who I grew up with in Perry Mason). Excellent supporting cast. Fascinating storyline!. Many thanks for uploading.
Yes and they smoked in all the government buildings and all the hospitals.. they smoked on all airplanes and on the overseas flights the Smoky air was recirculated.. I never smoked a cigarette in my life and I cannot believe I did not get lung cancer from secondhand smoke.. but I did get stage 4 malignant melanoma and almost died..🤔😀🤗
Right around minute 16, Baxter says to Collins, "Maybe you're too old to find it," meaning Baxter's identity, "but I'll find it," as if he's younger than Collins. In fact, Collins was nine months younger than Baxter. They both look every bit of their 54-year-old age in this movie, too. Funny line.
Thank you so much for sharing this exceptional movie 🍿 All the actors were stars ✨ Please, may we have more 🧚♀️ How about The Letter with Betty Davis and Coming Home with Clark Gable and Lana Turner and some Joan Crawford 💅 that is ~~~~if you find the time 🦋🐳🍒
" What does she want ? " " Women - what do they always want ? " ! BUT After years and years of studying he is a doctor - AND LO - the pretty blonde nurse hasn't aged a week , and what is more, she is NOT jealous of his new brunette squeeze ! Creative writers
In his prison garden [at 31:58], Dewey Robinson [inmate Fritzy], complains of being needled with the name “Ferdinand.” That term arose from Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild's passion for gardening.
What a great plot. Love these old movies that were written with the idea of a thinking person’s mystery instead of relying on violence, sex and profanity to carry a poorly written sensationalized script.
Maybe a plot that was plausible and reasonably intelligent might have made this more engaging. Obviously some posters here prefer tosh to brilliantly written and acted contemporary movies - even if they do have a dash of realistic rough dialogue.
Some of you sound like members of a temperance society of puritans from the 19th century. Close your eyes to anything remotely gritty, real and depicting the world as it is. Films should be more than fairy tales for children. Grow up. Pathetic
Thanks Wm. Tho' not without fault, still enjoyed! Watched a ton of movies with my Mother that were old movies then when I was a kid. Seeing familiar faces of those who played in other flicks I probably watched, like a couple of the robbers, and the doctor who helped Morgan/Ordway, and also the male prisoner who was paroled. Actor who played Ordway did look much older than the part called.
Wonderful memories of my mother too she didn't have to do anything but point out the movie stars ,the last time we really enjoyed each other . I hold on to that it means everything to me .
Very good movie...thanks for posting! Beneath the more overt storyline runs a still-contemporary issue: is a criminal born or made? The doctor had been a criminal in his previous life, but after amnesia & therapy & a new start allowed him to begin again, he not only becomes a doctor but works to help others in less fortunate positions. Interesting theme, and the film seems to confirm the view that a person isn’t necessarily born bad, that we have within ourselves the capacity to be either good or bad, that what we become depends on both our society & our own determination.
Very good series. Imagine anticipating going to the Saturday matinee to see what will happen this week. As commented previously, I cannot imagine disliking it, unless those who did were too young to appreciate a simple clean story.
Thanks for posting this. As far as costuming, however (for those who are interested).....the nurses in 1932 (the movie's beginning scenes) would NOT have been dressed that way!
Peasblossom1973: my great aunt was a nurse from Ww one until the 40's and we have pictures pf her through the years...and I googled Nurses 1932" and got lots of pictures. Yes...They dressed like that, the caps were similar and the uniforms identical. I will say they would not get away with the hair and makeup back then. Anyway better than current nurses in pink teddy bear scrubs.
Remember - the story STARTED in 1932 when he first had his accident, so the uniforms would have had longer skirts and "close fitted" caps (like Barbara Stanwyck in 'Night Nurse', or Glenda Farrell in 'Mary Stevens, MD).. The uniforms as shown in the movie were straight from 1943.
A lot lot better than most of the current era movies, No profanity, vulgarity or obscenity, no cocaine sniffing, no Computer generated imagery (CGI) no stupid loud music, no modern gadgets. who says such things are necessary to make a good film. I thoroughly enjoyed it. At the same time i feel sad while watching these old movies because all these people are long gone to the next world. These films also compel me to think about my own grandfather grandmother and their father mother which i have never seen but i think in 1943 my grandfather would be 12 year old approx. Life is strange. After 100 years people will probably think in a same way about us.
Why do people tell what happens in the movie on their comments? That's why many of us are watching the film so we can find out the plot of the movie on our own.
Not saying that it is correct to tell in the comments what happens in the movie; but I do read the comments looking for just that. I find it helps me be alert to points I might otherwise miss.
Wierd but good film to watch. Smart doc. Killed two birds with one plan. In wanting to find out who he was before his accident he he met up with a gang of criminals responsible for his accident, managed to get the answer out of them, and used it to turn them in. That was clean slick plot writing.
