It is normal that security guards will, in most cases, be the first responders as they're the ones guarding the malls. That's what they are paid for. SAPS doesn't guard business premises. Let's just thank all who were involved without painting others in a negative light.

@@nicholussibusisovilakazi951 Security are hired because a failure of SAPS to cover their mandate. Police visibility acts as a deterrent to crime, but because they are busy sitting their police stations (half a sleep most of the time) criminals know that it will take SAPS nothing less than an hour to respond. In many countries they don't reply mostly private because their is police visibility but your in-exposure to such limits your perspective...

Security companies aren't held to the same laws as SAPS firstly, that makes it easier for them to stop crime as they don't need warrants, probable cause or eviction notices to get shit done. Secondly, this was a collaborative effort, just like most Security companies, they relied on SAPS. Its good work from EVERYONE involved.

Just a couple of months ago, they caught like 18 foreigners, involved in CIT heists, and Kidnappings. If you want to be a criminal South Africa is the best place. 1/4 Conviction rate (so a 75% chance you will beat the charges), lax borders and a incapacitated rule of law.
