In the early hours of Feb 14, 2016, a temple helper who lived at Choa Chua Kang Combined Temple was found lying in a pool of blood. The murder victim had numerous external injuries all over his head and body, and there was a trail of bloody footprints leading from the body to the back gate of the temple. Although the suspect tried to conceal his identity by disguising himself when he committed the crime, the effort and persistence of the police..

Yes, 14 years seems very light for murder, whether premeditated or not. So, I listen to the narration carefully. Contrary to the caption, it sounds like the murderer got 40 years Lucky to escape the death penalty.

There's always something called 'mitigating factors'. Not everyone who kills someone else did it for one reason and one reason only: out of malice; some really have a genuine reason to do so, which is why there are many types of murder charges.

Fun Fact: In Buddhist teaching, stealing donations from the temple will result in a one way trip to hell where he will experience unbearable torture for all eternity. Even if he had escaped the law, he will never escape King Yama’s judgement. And I’m not a Buddhist, I’m a Catholic

Umm there are no deed good or bad enough to guarantee eternal place in heaven or hell. Only enlightenment can break the endless cycle. But belief aside yes stealing from temple is several times worse because that money would be use to maintain the temple for thousands of patrons. Which might be the only place that can offer peace in their lives, for those without any hope left, and those who try to attain wisdom.

Why buddhist gods so retributive and judgmental...lol. Just like us human beings xia. Or is it us that tries to project all of our human aggressive/defensive behaviors, onto these "gods" as well? Maybe in objective reality they may be much more enlightened and wiser than our human projections of them. But people need religions to control the behaviors of their own society, so they tend to project all sorts of fear and retribution onto the gods as well. To use religious fear to deter and control bad people, etc.

He must have bought the shirts in an attempt to keep himself invisible as long as he could. It only made things harder but he was caught eventually after the police tracked his transactions on buying the hammer as weapon and also checked the footage of the suspect via CCTV
