The character Robert De Niro played in "Casino" was based on real life oddsmaker Frank Rosenthal who was car bombed, but managed to survive because the Lincoln he was diving had a steel plate under the driver's seat which saved his life!

About 20 yrs ago I was at the Luxor and someone put an IED next to a car in the parking garage and that thing shook the whole place.We didn't know what it was until family from CT was calling my friend and I to see if we were alright. The same day unrelated an IED was tossed into a tattoo shop.

Actually Deniro's scene was inspired by a different car bombing which occurred at Tony Roma’s restaurant on East Sahara Avenue. Love that you are on this working vacation. You have to get to Chicago next . Great job

I was in Vegas in 1979 when Benny died, they shut all the Vegas strip lights out for 1 minute to honor him!

Loved it. Was in Vegas 40 years ago. Fremont st didn’t look like that! So cool to see it. Going in that alley in a scetchy area is not the greatest idea but u do what u do Just stay safe buddy interesting story. So much craziness Thanks!!

The reason the government hates crime is because they don't like the competition . If I'm remembering right Bunions casino payed out the highest percentage of any of the casinos at that time. I personally enjoyed the adults only wildnights I had in the old school dangerous Las Vegas. Thank you for posting all the great videos on your RU-vid channel.

A friend of mine a US Marshall in Las Vegas , He had to guard Oscar Goodman & he told me back in the early 2000s that he found AZT meds in the bathroom of 1 of the guys who had the tigers in their magic show.

Another kick ass story brother! Cowboy Benny was a take no sh%$ brass knuckle brawler. Vegas was made for Mr. Binion and his over the top goonery. In the early 1950's a hoodlum named "Russian Louis" Strauss was extorting Cowboy Benny for big $$. Benny got fed up and talked to LA Cosa Nostra boss Jack Dragna who sent Jimmy Frattiano and a few hoods from Chicago + LA families to do the "Italian rope trick" on Louis in Upland, California and planted the blackmailer on a vineyard. Keep KILLING it mon!!!

Quick story, around the late 90s earlys 2000's i was in High school and on summers i would go stay with my cousin and help him with his company installing custom blinds and drapes in some of the biggest places in Las Vegas. We put some drapes i believe in in Ted Binion or one of the dead Binion boys widowed wife. Their chubby daughter was playin piano watchin me on a ladder like she wanted to eat me lol.

Benny was a good friend of my grandfather. He was a great guy. He helped a lot of people. Sure, he had a few skeletons in his closet, but nothing worse than what our government does everyday. I know he treated my wife and I like royalty when we honeymooned in Vegas. RIP Benny and Pop, two of the greatest men that ever lived.

I used to live in Vegas for a bit. Man what a dump. The old timers all loved the old gangsters because they shared their ill gotten gains. Most of the old mobsters were always trying to curry favor with the general public by handing out large tips and giving gifts to their staff. It was a minority of people, the people that crossed them, that the poor treatment was reserved for. I heard from more than one Vegas old timer that the new corporations who run the casinos are still gangsters but they are gangsters who don't share.

If anyone is interested the Binion ranch is located on the corner of Bonanza and Tonopah (2100 W. Bonanza) in Las Vegas. Google Earth it. But imagine back in the day this was the outskirts of Vegas, nothing around it.

Good Video. I read a book about this guy, I could not put it down. Typical gangster story only set in Bonnie & Clyde Era, Dallas. That 2nd guy he killed, was black, in the 30's/deep south, so race had a lot to do w/him getting off. Supposedly Doyle & Armarillo Slim went to Benny for help because Tony Spilotro was trying to shake them down.
