@@d.b.6240 Not even close to being true. Corrections and law enforcement undergo very different training. The mindset between the two are not nearly the same. I underwent both types of training while in the military. Law enforcement training had more of a personable prevention style aspect whereas corrections had more of an impersonal punishment style aspect. I hated doing corrections. I preferred the personal interactions I had with people on the LEO side. When you have more positive interactions with people the crime rate tends to drop in that area. I never wanted to be "the enemy" and always tried to be the person you could go to when you needed help. Hell, in 10 years I think that I only ever wrote maybe 20 tickets. I always preferred the calm verbal warning. Corrections sucked because it was all about punishment and never getting personal or personable.

The real crime is how little anyone cares. Banks, credit card companies, stores and even the post office can only turn over the evidence to the police. But the police won’t investigate. Frustrating as the criminal has all my information but I cannot know anything about the criminal.

So, in this case, it probably is more likely that bike registration has something to do with intimidation and harassment. Otherwise, there'd be a fine, without the addition cost to government of jailing a citizen as a criminal and losing the taxes that citizen would otherwise be earning and paying.

Yup. Years ago I got hit while cycling by a driver who ran a red light. I got cited for the crash, because my municipality had a mandatory bicycle registration, and because the officers felt that it was irresponsible to ride through an intersection instead of walking the bike.
